USING WEBQUEST MODEL TO IMPROVE THE STUDENTS' READING COMPREHENSION (ANDI NIMAS HUMAERAH. BG.4.H 10535551213)

The aim of this study is intended to show the implementation of WebQuest model to improve students' reading comprehension and their effectiveness in learning process through WebQuest Model. Concept of WebQuest to improve students' reading comprehension by doing task . The task could be reading text such as narrative and descriptive text. The task is presented in website. The kinds of comprehension that the students can achieve by using WebQuest model are literal comprehension and inpretative comprehension. The process of WebQuest model to improve students' reading comprehension consist of some steps, those are introduction, task, resources, process, evaluation and conclusion.

The Effects of Using WebQuests on Reading Comprehension Performance of Saudi EFL Students

This paper is a report on the effects of using WebQuest on Saudi male EFL students reading comprehension performance. WebQuests expose students to several online resources and require them to gather information about a specific topic. The experimental group received traditional teaching plus WebQuests as supplementary activities. The control group received the traditional teaching only. The students' comprehension performance in the post-test was compared for both groups in order to determine whether there were significant differences between the groups in relation to the treatment. Significant differences occurring in the experimental group's post-test comprehension performance when compared to the pre-test indicate that using WebQuest can improve students' reading comprehension performance. The results indicate WebQuests have potential for use in promoting reading comprehension. Teachers and students do, however, need to be trained in order to use WebQuests more effectively.

M-WebQuest Development: Reading Comprehension of Senior High School Students in Indonesia

M-WebQuest is a teaching model adapted from WebQuest created firstly by Bernie Dodge, where its development is used ADDIE model. This research aims to develop M-WebQuest to improve reading comprehension attainment of senior high school students Grade XI in Pekanbaru, Riau-Indonesia. In gaining the feasibility of the developed M-WebQuest, 3 experts, 10 English teachers and 30 students were involved. Based on the given questionnaire analysis, the experts agree on the feasibility of created M-WebQuest in terms of technical, content, material unit, and impacts of using M-WebQuest on students and teachers. The English teachers and the students are also agree on the feasibility of created M-WebQuest in terms of interface screen, texts, and content. Overall, it can be concluded that M-WebQuest can be used for the learning activities of English Reading Comprehension subject.

The Effect of WebQuests on Grade 11 Reading Comprehension and Student Perceptions of WebQuests

Governments, educators and the public often believe that combining English language with information technology skills is important to be successful (Tuan, 2011). WebQuestsare a framework for learner-centered instruction in teaching English as a foreign language when using Internet resources. This study investigated the effect of WebQuests on Grade 11 reading comprehension in a secondary school in the UAE. It also investigated perceptions of WebQuests as a study tool. A quasi-experimental research design was used with control and experimental groups. In addition, a Likert scale questionnaire examined perceptions of WebQuests. An analysis of co-variance (ANCOVA) and descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. The results indicated a statistically significant improvement in reading by the experimental group. Additionally, positive attitudes were reported towards WebQuests. Students felt that WebQuests enhanced collaboration, language skills, reading and higher order thinking skills. Finally, recommendations for further studies will also be discussed in this paper.

Using a Webquest Model to Develop Critical Reading Achievement among Languages and Translation Department Students at Arar College of Education and Arts

This study aimed at investigating the effect of using a WebQuest Model (WM) on developing critical reading achievement among Languages and Translation Department students. The participants were fourth level English Diploma students at Languages and Translation Department at Arar College of Education and Arts in Saudi Arabia. Twenty-five fourth level English Diploma students participated as an experimental group. This group was pre-tested by using the Critical Reading Achievement Test (CRT) to assess their critical reading achievement before conducting the experiment. The experimental group was trained on using the WM to develop their critical reading achievement. The experimental group was post-tested by using the CRT. Then, they were tested by using the delayed CRT after one month of the post-CRT. The results revealed that there were statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the experimental group between the pre-and post-CRT in favor of the post-CRT. The results also revealed that there were no statistically significant differences in the mean scores of the experimental group between the post-and the delayed CRT. The results indicated the usefulness of using the WM in developing English Diploma students' critical reading achievement.

Students' Perception about Webtoon in Improving Students' Reading Comprehension Skills

Reading comprehension is an important component that is always used in English learning. One of the English skills that students must master is reading. Therefore, an appropriate reading media for students is needed. Webtoon is a digital comic that is accessed using the internet which is currently being used by gadget users. Based on PERMENDIKBUD which states to use technology in learning. So the webtoon is a media that smells of technology that can be used by students. however, not many studies have examined students 'perceptions of webtoons, most of them only examined their use but not students' perceptions. So this research was conducted to determine students 'perceptions of the webtoon in improving students' reading comprehension. This study uses a quantitative method and uses a questionnaire. Respondents of this study were 7th semester students majoring in English education at the State Islamic University of North Sumatra.

Reading is an essential skill in the English language as it significantly impacts learning and facilitates the exploration of information. It enables us to acquire new knowledge, and broaden our perspectives, Grabe & Stoller (2013) contend that reading is a complex and dynamic process that involves considering, understanding, translating, analyzing, and discovering knowledge. Students often encounter multiple challenges when learning reading comprehension, such as limited vocabulary, inadequate time to comprehend the material, and disinterest in the teaching methods employed by educators, so this study aimed to investigate whether the use of a webtoon application as a medium has a significant effect on the achievement scores of second-grade students in literal reading comprehension. The research method used in this study is quantitative, and the researcher conducted a quasiexperimental study to investigate the impact of using Webtoon media in the teaching process. The treatment provided to the experimental group, which received instruction with the use of Webtoon media, while the control group did not receive any special treatment. The results of the study indicated that there was a noticeable difference in the pre-test and post-test scores, with an increase in the mean score from 60.46 to 73.86. Therefore, it was found that webtoon application is effective in teaching reading to improve reading skills, especially students' reading comprehension. The significant effect implies that when the material was presented through the Webtoon application, students became more engrossed in the content, leading to better comprehension of the text.
