Community led savings and credit in Rajshahi, Bangladesh

The community savings and credit program has facilitated a sense of community ownership and trust within the women of Rajshahi Community Development Committee (CDC). The revolving nature of credit has enabled women to individually benefit from funds whilst facilitating independence from project funds. The savings program improved women’s socio-economic status and financial capacity, with women reporting empowerment and ability to navigate community.

GROUP SAVINGS AND LENDING SCHEMES FOR RURAL WOMEN LIVELIHOOD DEVELOPMENT IN WARD 15 CHISHAKWE VILLAGE

The article seeks to document the use of internal savings and lending scheme in improving the standards of living of rural women in Chishake village, Chigo-dora in Mutare. The necessity for women empowerment in developing economies is an accepted precondition for the improvement of the standard of living , with the result that gender mainstreaming has taken center stage in the development discourse. Societal constraints engraved in social norms make it difficult for women in rural areas to abandon their domestic roles for public roles outside the home. This article adopts the Social Capital Theory and the mixed methods approach wherein both quantitative and qualitative method-ologies are used. Quantitative research methodologies helped to quantify income and capital accumulated before and after joining the internal savings and lending scheme. Qualitative methodologies provided insight on perceptions of improvements on standard of living. Out of a total population of 150 women beneficiaries, a sample of 90 respondents was randomly selected from the scheme. Furthermore, 5 Focus Group Discussions were conducted, whilst 6 key informant interviews were administered to ensure validity and reliability of the findings. Secondary sources of data were also used for cross referenc-ing purposes. From the analysis and interpretation of the data manipulated, this article concludes that Internal Savings and Lending Schemes (ISALs) play a significant role in poverty alleviation for rural women, notwithstanding the myr-iad of challenges such as improper record keeping and political interference.

Impact of Comprehensive Village Development Programme (CVDP) on Poverty Reduction: A Case Study of Two Villages in Comilla Adarsha Sadar Upazila

The present study highlights the impact of Comprehensive Village Development Programme (CVDP) on Poverty Reduction in two villages of Comilla District. It was found that the programme has contributed much to human resources development through imparting training, organizing capital through share-savings, harnessing local resources through participative planning, enriching entrepreneurial skills by implementing different IncomeGenerating Activities (IGA) through micro-credit, and on the whole, creating social capital for village development. This research used head count method for poverty measurement and found that CVDP played vital role in reducing poverty in the two researched villages. It was found that poverty in the researched villages is now less than 23% in 2013 compare to 67% in 2003.

THE ROLE OF COOPERATIVES IN ENHANCING WOMEN ACCESS TO CREDIT

Cooperative is an informal institution set up basically to meet the socio-cultural and socioeconomic challenges of its members who are qualified for such based on specific rules and guidelines. The role of cooperative in the financial empowerment of women was established in this study. Theoretically analysis was adopted with findings that cooperative help to provide small credit to women which naturally wouldn't have been possible with known traditional banks. Cooperative also tend to provide assistance and aid in various forms to women in our society. From the analysis, it was concluded that cooperative have succeeded in empowering the women in Nigeria society financially to a great extent. The study therefore called on the government at the local, state and federal levels to recognise cooperatives as avenue of fulfilling their campaign promises such as in the delivery of microcredit scheme. Cooperatives should not be seen as a means of exerting power or making contribution only, more educative programs should be provided by their leaders while news information on the state of the economy, government programmes amongst other should be presented during gatherings.

Abstract: The main aim of this paper is to know relationship between micro finance and women empowerment. Also this paper has investigated the effectiveness of microfinance on the occupational structure, economic and social status of rural and urban women in the Marathwada region of Maharashtra, collecting general information from women on credit consumption, monthly income, social and economic impact, and so on. The related information has been collected through an interview schedule. Through microfinance, business activities are done by women, which increase self-reliance, self-confidence, and social prestige among women. Along with this, the domestic savings tendency in women also leads to economic prosperity and additional employment. Therefore, microfinance institutions have an important role in the economic and social status and business structure of rural women entrepreneurs. These financial institutions work to empower women by connecting them through bank linkage programmes and self-help groups, which are important for the economic and social development of the country. This study is based on primary as well as secondary sources of data and a descriptive nature which describes. Primary data has collected from well structured questionnaire. Researcher has selected 100 women as sample from Marathwada region in SHGs and who beneficiary of micro finance. The impact of women’s co-operative in a rural area in achieving Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

One of the strategies to address the issue of poverty in rural areas is by empowering women. East Java provincial government, Indonesia, has allocated grants for women’s co-operatives in rural areas since 2015, in the same year of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) launch. This study describes the pattern of credit use in the women’s co-operative and its impact on low-income family livelihoods. The research was conducted at two women’s co-operatives in Plumpang District, Tuban Regency, Indonesia, from October 2017 to May 2018 using the qualitative approach. The data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, focus group discussion, and survey about the co-operative members’ credit use. This study found that the co-operative members used the loans for daily needs, tuition fees, agricultural activities, and non-farming economic activities.
