The current study is an attempt to determine the intensity of social media use among university students and the impact of social media on students’ academic performance. The survey based on the questionnaire was run to gather the required data for which 100 copies of the questionnaire were administered among the students – both 65 male and 35 female respondents. However, Facebook, Messenger, and WhatsApp contributed equally to be used among the respondents at the highest extent of 95%. Whereas the second most used tool was Twitter contributing 60%. The majority of the respondents (80%) spent more than 5 hours regularly on social media. The homes were the places wherein the majority of the respondents contributing 45% use social media. The purpose of social media use among the majority of the respondents (60%) was to exchange academic things with friends. The respondents contributing 60% declined to believe if social media use negatively affects their academic performance. The majority of them contributing 55% were positive towards the statement if the social media use had improved their academic works. The respondents in majority were found to believe the social media uses to be the best source of amelioration in their academic performance

ABSTRACT -Media is playing a very prominent role in the life of a modern man. There are a large number of people who use different type of social media in order to keep them update and connected with the entire world. Using social media affects their study and academic performance and ultimately their result become effective. Some of the students cannot remain away from using social media and it affects their academic performance badly. The purpose of this research is to find out the impact of using social media on academic performance of students at graduate leve.. The population of this study was all male and female graduate (final year) students of post graduate colleges of district Vehari. 300 students were selected as a sample of study randomly. A questionnaire comprised 40 statements based on 5-points Likert scale was developed for data collection. The respondents are to tick any one out of the five given options to show their attitude towards every statement presented to them via questionnaire. Our results show that the students use social media as a helping tool in their studies but it badly social affects their studies.

Social media is a mode of communication, influencing nearly every field of life. Researchers have found that the use of social media can be addictive, which may cause significant impairment in various aspects of an individual’s life. This study has been designed to investigate the impact of Social Networking on students’ academic performance in Islamabad and Rawalpindi (Pakistan). This Cross-sectional study was conducted from April 2019 to February 2020. 385 students of age 15 to 25 years, enrolled in different educational institutes of twin cities were included in the study. Investigating the Effect of Social Media on the Students’ Academic Performance

The objectives of the present study are to assess social media impact onthe academic performance of the student. Social media has developed sharedglobal fashion which has feast across virtually everywhere in the world.The sample was consisting of undergraduate students of the leadinguniversity in Lahore. A convenience sampling technique was employed.Self-administered data from 83 students were collected from the Likertscale. Descriptive statistics were used to examine the data on studentaddictiveness, exposure to social media, the influence of social media onacademic performance, age and gender. Results suggested that socialmedia addictiveness affects the performance of the students, whereas,age usage has an influence on the social media network. The researchersrecommend that social media is used for academic commitments. Thestudents can make balance amid academic activities and chit-chattingthereby monitoring their health at regular intervals.

India is the third biggest country in terms of internet users in the world, with a high social and mobile audience. Social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, Orkut, etc diverting students from their studies. Students spend more time on social media than they do do using personnel email. Even Though, there is loss of privacy and safety, social media provides opportunities for connecting with friends, classmates, and people with shared interest. Today, the main aim of the student should be education and their future career. However, many students rely on the accessibility of information on social media. That means reduced focus on learning and retaining information. The study also points out the popularity of social networking sites among students community. The social networking sites and social media have revolutionized the world, bringing us closer than ever before. However, students can exploit this and use it for a better life, a better tomorrow. It should be used to connect, stay in touch, share views but not waste time on. The sample size for the study is 100. A questionnaire is designed to determine the various factors of social media that have impact on student's education. Variables identified are gender, education, social influence, and academic performance.

The use of social media has met a rapid growth among the few past decades. This growth make it very popular for the communication amongst university students especially Tabuk university students. This study examines the impact of social media on the academic performance of students at University of Sargodha. The rationale behind the study is to find out whether or not the exposure of the students to social media has effect on their academic performance. It is quantitative study where survey research method was adopted, employing the questionnaire as an instrument of data collection. A sample of 120 respondents were selected through convenient sampling technique. Statistical analysis of the data was done through SPSS. The findings show that social media has positive effect on academic performance of university students. Findings also show that majority of student spend less than 5 hour per day for academic purposes. Findings also reveal that WhatsApp is the most used social media's app by students of University of Sargodha.

The usage of Social Media has become an integrating part of our modern civilization which is based on the applications and websites to enable the users for creating and sharing the information or content via social networking participation. This study is concerned to assess the impacts of the social media usage by the university students as they adopt the different applications during their study career in university, hostel and outside. For an empirical investigation survey questionnaires were used to collect data in which 215 students ensured their response as they use the social networking applications including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, and what sup. The findings revealed the impact of social media effect on the university students by means decreasing and influence their contribution in the development of learning, efficiency violation, bad socialization, addictiveness, impact psychologically, vitiate time management, ethical and health related issues. This quantitative research drew a random sample (N=215) of males (n=180) and females (n=35) who were administered a student perception questionnaire on how social media affects university students. Results indicate while most students use social media and spend several hours checking social media sites; there was a negative aspect to university students' use of social media. This research contains the cross-sectional study, random sampling, and follow the SPSS-18.0 to interpret the data. Moreover, this study is confined within a university and it requires following the longitudinal and reinterpretation of the research due to the human dynamic behavior and nature.

The social media have penetrate the 21st century generations of Internet users, building it a very active mechanism of communications, especially among students of higher institutions of education. Consequently, academic activities in institutions and faculties are gradually more carried out through the social networks, such as Facebook, twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn. Social media use is very trendy amongst students as it provides them the liberty to do whatever they want to do using social media. They can generate and share the content, comment on anything they want to, connect and chat with their friends, associates as well as make new friends and groups. Social media can also be used as an educational instrument for learning amongst students. Students can connect with their professors, counselors or classmates online, if they face any problem related to their studies. This helps learners to connect with their teachers and classmates in a new way providing elasticity in learning. However, there is also a harmful side associated with the social media use amongst students. Large number of students starts losing attention in studies due to their habit to social media use and these results in a drop in their overall academic performance. Academics is a very significant aspect of a student's life. A good academic performance helps to build a winning and secure future. However, social media has affected learners' focus towards learning in such a way that it has initiated interfering with their educational performance and thus indirectly their future. This report shall include a concise explanation of social media impact amongst students.
