Introduction: Dental treatment aims at correction of existing disease; prevention of future disease with rehabilitation of patient's lost functional capacity and aesthetics. Fixed dental prosthesis is any prosthesis that is cemented to a natural tooth or dental implants abutments that cannot be removed by patient. The success of prosthodontic treatment is related to prosthesis survival, with its ability to fulfil biologic and patient-evaluated objectives with patient satisfaction. This study is aimed to find the patient satisfaction with fixed prosthodontic treatment. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was done in a tertiary care hospital among 102 patients rehabilitated with fixed dental prosthesis from August to September 2019 after taking ethical approval from Institutional Review Committee of Kathmandu Medical College. (IRC No. 1207201918). Convenience sampling was done. The questionnaire assessed patient's satisfaction of fixed prosthesis on the basis of appearance, chewing ability, cleansibility, speech and awareness of oral hygiene measures for cleaning of the prosthesis. Data entry was done in Microsoft excel and analysed using Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)version 20.0, point estimate at 95% Confidence Interval was calculated along with frequency and proportion for binary data. Results: The majority of the patients 87 (85.3%) were satisfied with their fixed prosthesis, at 95% confidence interval (93.5-81%). Eighty one (79.4%) were satisfied with their chewing ability; 99 (97.1%) satisfied with their speech, 78 (76.4%) satisfied with appearance of fixed prosthesis. Ninety eight patients (96.1%) were aware of oral hygiene measures, out of which only 66 (67.3%) used interdental aids for cleaning of their fixed prosthesis. Conclusions: Several factors (chewing ability, appearance, speech, cleansibility of fixed prosthesis) had positive impact on overall satisfaction in majority of the patients. Dentists should continue to emphasise on the significance of maintaining good oral hygiene and use of interdental aids for the longevity of fixed prosthesis.

The objective of this survey was to assess the prosthetic status of patients visiting the Department of Prosthodontics of Government Dental College and Hospital Srinagar Kashmir, which was followed by the assessment of patient satisfaction 4 months after treatment. Furthermore, the influence of the patient's gender, their mental attitude, and the type of prosthesis given on patient satisfaction were evaluated. A short interview was carried out with the selected patients to collect preliminary data. The socioeconomic status was recorded, following which an intra-oral examination was carried out to assess the prosthetic status and the type of prosthesis required by the patient. Patients were then given a questionnaire before the commencement of treatment to assess their mental attitude. The treatment decided on was completed for each patient. Patients' satisfaction with the treatment was assessed after four months using a questionnaire. Subsequent to the collection of data from the questionnaires, statistical analysis using the Chi-square test at a significance level of P<0.05 was done to evaluate the relationship between age, personality, mental attitude, and prosthetic treatment needs. Patient satisfaction was also assessed. Statistically significant results were obtained on correlating the age and the treatment required, patients' mental attitude and the various treatment options. The relationship between the patients' gender, socioeconomic status, and mental attitude with their satisfaction was found to be noteworthy. The highest prosthetic treatment need was for complete dentures in both genders. Higher satisfaction levels were noted in individuals belonging to higher socioeconomic status and in males.
Effect of the quality of removable prostheses on patient satisfaction
The journal of contemporary dental practice, 2009
The objective of this study was to evaluate patient satisfaction with removable prostheses and its relationship with denture quality. Sixty-seven patients who received 119 new removable prostheses over a period of one year at the College of Dentistry, King Saud University, were recalled for an interview with regard to their satisfaction with their dentures and a clinical examination. Prosthetic quality was determined using the California Dental Association criteria. Results showed 75% and 66% of upper and lower dentures, respectively, were reported by patients as satisfactory. Of all the upper prostheses rated as being of acceptable quality, 94% were also reported by patients as satisfactory, but of those of unacceptable quality, only 52% were reported by patients as unsatisfactory. The corresponding figures for lower dentures were 91% and 71%, respectively. No significant associations were found between patient satisfaction and age, or denture experience. Although acceptable qualit...
Patient satisfaction with maxillofacial prosthesis. Literature review
Journal of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery, 2009
Obturators and facial prostheses are important not only in rehabilitation and aesthetics, but also in patient re-socialisation. The level of reintegration is directly related to the degree of satisfaction with rehabilitation. So, the maxillofacial prosthetics must provide patient satisfaction during treatment. This study aimed to search information in database and conduct a literature review on patient satisfaction with maxillofacial prosthesis. The problems experienced by these patients may decrease when specialists keep the patient on regular inspection. Rehabilitation through alloplasty or prosthetic restoration provides satisfactory conditions in aesthetics and well-being and reinstates individuals in familial and social environment.
EVALUATION OF PATIENTS' SATISFACTION AND ATTITUDE AFTER AND BEFORE COMPLETE DENTURES
Aim: The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between patients' attitudes to obtaining a prosthesis and their satisfaction with a complete denture. Place and Duration: In the Dental Section of Allied Hospital, Faisalabad for one year duration from March 2019 to March 2020. Methods: 450 new total denture users took part in the study. In any case, the patient's attitude before performing the prosthesis was assessed using a questionnaire containing 12 questions in the "yes-no" model. Patient satisfaction with new teeth was assessed using a questionnaire consisting of 12 questions using an analog scale from 1 to 5 (1: I strongly disagree, 5: I strongly agree). The satisfaction test was carried out 3 months after implantation. Multiple correspondence analysis has shown a close relationship between the expectations of the patient's future prosthesis and the recognition of her new dentures after three months of use.

Background In partial edentulous individuals, a partial removable dental prosthesis (PRDP) is a common dental replacement option to improve oral function and quality of life. However, some patients discontinue using their denture over time. The aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and characteristics of partial edentulous patients who no longer wear their dentures, explore their reasons, and assess their oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL). Methodology This cross-sectional study, conducted at Chulalongkorn University Dental School from 2013 to 2019, involved patients who received PRDP treatment. They were contacted via phone calls and asked about their denture usage. Eligible participants were patients who had stopped or rarely used their PRDPs. Data on oral status, health insurance, and PRDP variables were collected from hospital records. Telephone interviews were conducted to collect the initial reasons for seeking PRDP treatment, reasons for discontinuation, desire for a new PRDP, and OHRQoL. The Oral Impacts on Daily Performances index was used to assess the OHRQoL. The score was dichotomized into the absence or presence of oral impacts. Chi-square tests and multivariable binary logistic regression were employed to determine the associations between oral impacts and various factors in the participants who discontinued PRDP usage. Results Among the 975 contacted participants, 175 (17.9%) discontinued using their PRDPs. Most of these individuals had at least 20 remaining natural teeth and/or 4 posterior occluding pairs. The primary initial reason for seeking PRDP treatment was often based on a dentist's suggestion. Although many participants reported no impact on OHRQoL and did not express the need for new PRDPs, those experiencing oral impacts were more likely to seek replacements. Conclusions With up to 7 years follow-up duration, individuals with partial edentulism and sufficient remaining functional dentition without oral impacts were more inclined to discontinue PRDP usage. Those with maxillary anterior teeth loss were less likely to discontinue using their PRDP. The primary initial reason for seeking PRDP
Complication rates and patient satisfaction with removable dentures
The Journal of Advanced Prosthodontics, 2012
PURPOSE. The purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the frequency and type of prosthetic complications in relation to type and properties of removable dentures and to investigate the influence of these complications and several data about the existing dentures on patient satisfaction. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Ninety nine patients (44 males and 55 females) wearing removable dentures have been included in the study. The complications of the patients were recorded; patient satisfaction was determined with a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) and the relationship of complications and patient satisfaction with several data about the dentures such as denture age, type of denture, centric relation and vertical dimension was investigated. Kruskal Wallis, Mann Whitney U and Chi square tests were used for statistical analyses. The results were evaluated statistically at a significance level of P<.05. RESULTS. Need for addition of artificial teeth for dentures with correct centric relations was found to be significantly lower than dentures with wrong centric relations (P<.01). Loss of retention, ulcerations and high vertical dimension affected the VAS chewing ability scores negatively and ulcerations affected the VAS phonation scores negatively (P<.05).
A study to evaluate the effect of oral stereognosis in acceptance of fixed prosthesis
Indian Journal of Dental Research, 2011
Aims: The aim of the study was to evaluate and compare the oral stereognostic ability and satisfaction for fixed prosthesis in human being. Materials and Methods: The present study was carried out on 40 subjects, the purpose being to investigate the relation of oral perception to diagnostic and therapeutic procedures. Two types of cast metal crowns-one had morphology closely resembling original tooth and other one confirmed to ideal contours were constructed on endodontically treated posterior tooth. One cast metal crown was randomly selected from two cast metal crown and fitted on prepared tooth. Oral stereognostic score of subject was determined by correct response to questionnaire based on the recognition ability of subjects. Patient satisfaction level was checked by psychometric parameter Likert scale. Same procedure was repeated with other type of cast metal crown. Results: Data obtained were compared by paired and unpaired two sample t-test. Oral stereognostic score and satisfaction score were found to be higher for cast metal crown with morphology resembling to original tooth due to recognition and discriminatory ability of subjects and recall-memory. Oral stereognostic level was found to be higher in younger than older subjects. The level of satisfaction was found to be higher in older subjects than younger subjects. Conclusion: It was concluded that acceptance of fixed prosthesis is not only based on dentist's routine procedure of treatment and patient's judgment about oral health, function, and esthetics, but also depends upon patient's oral perception and discriminatory skill for external morphology of fixed prosthesis.
