Basic Study Of The Importance Of Energy Approach In Sustainable Architecture

The main principle of the process for the participation of different fields has also been extended to the field of architecture. The present article addresses the evolution of approaches in recent years. It is a case that examines the architectural stance in relation to sustainable development from a qualitative and conceptual point of view, in contrast to most of the previous ones, which have addressed little of the problem. In this regard, while emphasizing on the concept of addressing the sectors, the status and architecture of housing in relation to the environment involved in sustainable development, it is concluded that in the current period of energy, the issue of power and information exchange is considered necessary for new knowledge of the world and analyzing softwares are the mechanism that utilizing energy and information. Therefore, architectural responsibility in sustainable development, and in particular, energy, goes beyond the structure of the internal heating and internal storage of housing, and includes both the pre-structural and post-structural stages; the need for such a responsibility is the synchronization and coherence of the other areas of management, social and cultural affairs.

The Role of Architecture in the Process of Moving Towards Sustainable Development

Environmental, social, and cultural problems arose in the twentieth century as a result of acceleration of industrial growth of societies as well as economic inequalities. Lack of proper development patterns was the main factor demanding the introduction of the concept of sustainable development in the second half of the twentieth century. The construction industry, particularly the residential construction sector, was one of the major factors of energy consumption in the world. Therefore, inclusion of the issue of sustainable development in this area and coupling housing development policies with the goal of sustainable development was of particular importance. In this regard, sustainability, as one of the most influential disciplines in the field of architecture, played an important role in order to meet the objectives of sustainable development. This paper reviewed the concepts of sustainable development and sustainable design, and addressed them in the field of architecture. The research method was descriptive-analytic, based on library information, and extracted data from the case studies. In this regard, the movements related to sustainable architecture have been categorized and characteristics of a sustainable building in terms of sustainable development goals have been outlined. The results showed the importance of the architecture in the process of moving towards sustainability. Subsequently, an appropriate approach to meet the goals of sustainability in architectural design has been developed and potentials of this process to achieve sustainability have been mentioned.

The challenges of sustainable development and architecture

Ignoring sustainable development leads on to destruction of the environment and humankind. This thought in third world is copied from developed countries, without preserving the collective identity in the community in which historical and cultural approaches are one of the main heritages. The identity crises are to some extent caused by architect’s actions, since they consider the environment more important than cultural and social issues. Sustainable development looks at architecture with modernistic approach. Sustainable Architecture and urban designing are not a common – international concept of communities, cultures and people of every community. Beside scientific and new global experiences, we should define sustainability with decent comprehension of history, culture, climate and main infrastructures. Sustainable architecture has a postmodernist point of view about objects and never directs its attention to just one main global idea, ignoring the culture and environment, and never puts mechanic outlook on architecture or urban designing. Method of research in this paper is based on the description and analyses of sustainable architecture by using other literatures. This paper tries to show the process of sustainable development evolution and the viewpoint of sustainable architecture as well as sustainable development in order to decide whether this idea responds the crisis age needs.

Need for Sustainable Architecture

The paper detailed the concept of sustainable architectural design that has come to the forefront in the last 20 years. At the beginning of the environmental revolution damage to the natural system became a main concern. This concept recognizes that human civilization is an integral part of the natural world and that nature must be preserved and perpetuated if the human community itself is to survive. However terms such as sustainability or sustainable development became more often mentioned only during the last decade, due to scientific evidence that excessive exploitation of natural resources in parallel to the ever-growing polluting agents would lead to irreversible environmental destruction. By providing an awareness of the environment, values are taught that are necessary for the protection of the environment .From the study relating to Sustainable architecture and its relation to sustainable development, this paper identifies the principles of sustainable architecture and planning and clarifies the role of the public and professionals in reducing the impact of buildings on the environment.

Sustainability in architecture between the past and the future

From the end of the last century, the environment became the chief of all research topics and studies in different fields. Architecture, for example, is one of these fields and a lot of titles were born in architecture to connect between architecture and environment such as, green architecture, sustainable architecture and environmental design. All of these titles are moving around the same orbit which is how to create a friendship between the built environment and the natural environment. Sustainable architecture, which is the topic of this research, seeks to minimize the negative environmental impact of buildings by enhancing efficiency and moderation in the use of materials, energy, and development space. If we go back to the traditional architecture, we will find many examples that achieved sustainability with traditional tools and tried to realize a friendship with the natural environment. So, sustainability isn't a recent idea but it was born in traditional architecture. So the research will demonstrate sustainability in traditional and modern architecture and discuss the difference in application of sustainability in architecture between past and present. The research will focus on Islamic architecture which is simultaneously an example of traditional architecture and it is a paradigm of sustainable architecture, starting from the urban planning scale reaching to the scale of building. The sustainability realization in the urban planning scale can be shown in the compact urban tissue and narrow anfractuous streets. Effects of Sustainability Paradigm on Architecture

ABSTRACT: This paper delves into effects of sustainability on architectural theory and practice. Ideas related to environmental protection from the past decades, cumulated in sustainability as unique global action. Circumstances were not in favour of necessary level of requested changes, but positive effects are evident in adjustment of legal base, new procedures and standards. Concept of sustainable architecture is proclaimed mainstream, faded by selective interpretation and perceptible lag in developing of theoretical background. Real critical observation and researches of sustainability and sustainable architecture are still very rare. Reasons for it are many, first of all not all of architects understand sustainable architecture as relevant and it is not rare misunderstanding of sustainable architecture as energy efficiency eco-tecture or other environmentally related “tecture”. Furthermore, building industry in its complexity is typically tardiness in acceptance of anything new in general. However, sustainable architecture is positive in its essence but rising confusion about it has to be halted by more clarified definitions, qualitative researches and developing of more solid theoretical bases. Concepts in Sustainable Architecture and Critical Approaches on the Ecological Effect

The concept of sustainability in the 1970s is the result of human awareness for the environmental and the humanity issues, consist of cultural, social and economic problems. One of the most important goals of the sustainable development is to preserve nature and modify its perspective, and the manifestation of sustainable development in the environmental aspects is called sustainable architecture. Albeit the results of today's crises are well recognized, but the most of the presented solutions for environmental problems in a sustainable architecture seems to be ineffective and incomplete. Nevertheless, despite to the proposed solutions to the environmental problems, their approach to the nature keeps disconnected, and the eternal nature value remains non-restored. The purpose of this research is to seek for environmental theories of sustainable development and sustainable architecture. Thereby, it may complete its deficiencies by employing comparison of attitudes towards nature. In this way, this article firstly describes the goals of the sustainable development and sustainable architecture and secondly, it presents its solutions in order to identify its defects and can propose a more complete policy. Although sustainable development has ecological, economic and cultural-social roots, but, the role of the nature becomes more apparent with the search of the problems facing contemporary humans and their solution in the sustainable architecture. At the end of this paper, the nature and its broad meaning have been studied, which can determine the triple relationship of the human, the nature and the architecture. Considering the role of the human as well as architecture as a process that leads to sustainability, it will be the other important point in modifying the relationship between human, nature and architecture.

The Architecture of Public Buildings as Transformative Model Towards Sustainability

Problem Statement: After the era of socialist modernism in Macedonia, the transition process of the newly independent state inevitably affected and still transforms the architectural heritage. The monumentality of modern architecture in Yugoslavia was determined by its specifi c typology and spaciousness. Such characteristics are becoming vulnerable while facing certain challenges between sustainability and the building's formal aspects and appearance. The refl ection of these challenges can be observed through the architectural transformation based on heating demands, infl uenced by social, economic, and digital capitalism. In these processes, the other aspects of architectural physics are often neglected (thermal, acoustic, etc), which becomes an issue in terms of the building's performance and sustainability, and the building's energy effi ciency implementation in its entirety. The problematic area of this research is the redefi ning approach of the architectural practice which strives toward sustainability. Moreover, there is a lack of approaches based on a joint strategy between architecture transformations and architecture physics in a holistic manner. Purpose of Study: The main aim is to understand the transformation process, from the architecture of monumentality to the architecture of segregation, where energy consumption is the driving factor and is directly related to the economy market. Therefore, the purpose of this paper is to Investigate the interrelation between the architectural transformation process and the discipline of building physics refl ected in the energy effi ciency strategies. Methods: The research is focused on public buildings, built in the period of social modernism in Yugoslavia, that have transformed their phenomenology (building's skin) and materialization. This study investigated the reasons that drive the transformation processes. In that direction, the research method covers chronological data of the energy effi ciency strategies by discussing their plans and actions and uses an analytical approach that recognizes the transformed models into sustainable architecture as evidence of the tendencies toward a sustainable economy of the built environment. Findings and Results: The expected results of the research will determine the main driving economic and social factors of the transformative processes and will elaborate on the transformed model's sustainability. Conclusions and Recommendations: The research will conclude the necessity of collaboration between architecture transformation and building physics, which indicates the architectural characteristics of sustainability.
