"Escola Jabour”: Hermeto Pascoal & Grupo e suas ramificações (original) (raw)
In this article we address the ramifications of Hermeto Pascoal’s experience with his group, in particular the work by musicians Itiberê Zwarg, Jovino Santos Neto and André Marques. To this end and, in order to organize the descriptions and understand musical, aesthetic and social elements present in this global experience, we seek support in the Human Sciences. Based on the concepts of “associative relationship” (Weber, 1994) and “network” (Bauman and May, 2010), we analyze the two different meanings of the expression “Jabour School”. This account helps us to reflect on the scope of Pascoal’s work, especially on his work with the group established between 1981 and 1993. Finally, we seek to highlight characteristics that may denote the ramifications verified as a “school”, or a stylistic stream.
