Over the past few years, India’s higher education sector has witnessed remarkable progress. Though the country has the largest and the second largest higher education system in the world in terms of the number of institutions and enrolment respectively, it still faces challenges on several fronts. Quality of higher education (HE) is a function of infrastructure, accessibility and recruitment of good teachers, ability to cater to societal demands, motivation of students, employability of the programme, and flexibility for administrative and academic reforms and freedom for innovations. Twelfth Five Year Plan (2012–2017) recognizes the challenges facing India’s HE system. The plan has made several proposals to resolve the challenges in expansion, equity and excellence. This paper discusses teachers’ perception of quality of teaching in colleges and the suggestion for improvements thereof. Many factors that contribute to quality of HE can be viewed from a teacher perspective. This investigation recognized five major areas that have a bearing on quality of HE. They are effective teaching, meeting special learners in HE, assessment in HE, classroom problems and innovative solutions and using ICT in classrooms. How teachers in Kerala perceive these dimensions of HE were explored through unstructured interview. Results evidence many challenges in quality of HE. Teachers being doorkeepers of thoughts can play a good role for the improvement of HE. One way to overcome these challenges is to equip teachers with enough in-service courses in problem areas. An orientation course once for all is not sufficient to cater to enhance professional competencies of teachers for quality HE.
Quality Teaching in Indian Higher Education in Present Senario: A Study

The present study was conducted to assess the quality teaching in Indian higher education. The present paper based on Curriculum design and improvement; course and methodology development; promotion of social values; professional skills; knowledge and use of advance technology. To access quality teaching in Indian higher education, the data was collected for the study from the graduate and postgraduate students of various colleges and institution of Agra. The questionnaire includes general and specific questions related to quality teaching in higher education. The total number of students who responded the questionnaire was 243, out of which 137 from graduation and 106 from post-graduation. The concepts of quality might be different from institution to institution, while sharing the experience, new views, and idea come out which they can include in their norms and strategy to achieve the target of superior quality in education.

Paradigm and teaching quality in India has been illustrated in this paper. The system means to give a hypothetical foundation has been given by the methods of learning and teaching to policy of OECD-IMHE of instructing in advanced education. The review of the literature is organized in three main parts as to address three major questions: 1) "What is Quality Teaching and why is it important in higher education?" 2) "How can teaching concretely be enhanced?" 3) "How can one make sure Quality Teaching initiatives are effective?" 2. Quality teaching has become an issue of importance as the landscape of higher education has been facing continuous changes: increased international competition, increasing social and geographical diversity of the student body, increasing demands of value for money, introduction of information technologies, etc.
IDENTIFYING AND ADDRESSING CHALLENGES IN QUALITY HIGHER EDUCATION
Because of globalization and competition among education providers, quality has become an important issue these days. Quality education means quality of teachers, quality of learners, quality of courses, quality of planning and management, quality of infrastructure, quality of resource and quality of teaching and evaluation methods. Quality in education, at all the levels, is being encouraged in all the countries because of academic, social, political and economic advantages. If we want to succeed in the expansion of educational provision nationally and internationally, we have to improve and sustain the quality of our education system. To do this, it is quite requisite to identify and address challenges in quality education. These challenges are considerable to be addressed for the country as it is now engaged in the use of higher education as a powerful tool to build a knowledgebased information society of the 21 st century. Recognizing these basic facts, the universities have to perform a multiple role namely creating new knowledge, acquiring new capabilities and producing an intelligent human resource pool through challenging teaching, research and extension activities so as to balance both the need and the demand. In terms of the system approach, the quality of input and process will shape the quality of outputs that graduate from the education system. The quality education is not a one-time affair. It is a continuous process involving sustained efforts. This paper identifies and addresses challenges in quality higher education in India.

Higher education in India has been in the news for many reasons. The gross enrollment ratio (GER) in higher education in India has improved to 23.6 % in 2014-15. India's rise in education faces daunting challenges. The education system as a whole is beset with issues of quality, access and equity, and change is happening much faster in some states than others.
