The sampling of the present study is comprised of 1023 third and fourth year pre-service science teachers selected from 12 different universities in the spring term of 2013-2014 academic year. As a data collection instrument in the study, “Environmental Ethics Awareness Scale” developed by the researcher was employed. In the analysis of the collected data, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) from SPSS program package were used. The results of the t-test analysis revealed a significant difference between the male students and the female students (t(1021)=4.292; p<.001). No significant difference was found between the third year students and the fourth year students as a result of the t-test analysis (t(1021)=1.090; p>.05). The results of the variance analysis also did not reveal any significant difference bas...

The aim of this study is to develop a scale determining biology teacher candidate's opinions towards environmental awareness and environmental sensitivity. For this aim, at first, totally 93 scale items were prepared by reviewing relevant literature. 91 items in this scale were a five-point Likert type scale and 2 of 93 items consisted of demographic variables. The scale was applied to total of 188 biology teacher candidates from Education Faculties of Ataturk University. SPSS 17.0 Statistical Program was used to analyze the data. Item analysis studies were done though item-total correlation and reliability analyses were counted through Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient. The construct validity of the scale was verified by factor analysis. Based on this factor analysis, two factors were identified and Cronbach Alpha internal consistency coefficient for whole test was found to be 0.921. Keywords: biology teacher candidate, environmental awareness, environmental sens...

Social studies pre-service teachers' awareness of environmental ethics
Ilkogretim Online - Elementary Education Online, 2020
Aim of this study is to determine environmental ethic perception of prospective social studies teachers. In the study, descriptive survey model was used. Research sample consists of prospective social studies teachers studying in Buca Faculty of Education at Dokuz Eylul University. "Personal Information Form" and "Environmental Ethics Awareness Scale" developed by Özer (2015) were used as data collection tools. After application of data collection tools, data were gathered, and findings about research problem and sub problems were presented. Relationships between environmental ethics awareness level and personal characteristics, such as age, gender, grade level and settlement area etc. were examined, by analyzing findings in computer via SPSS program. As a result of the significant differences obtained in the findings, it revealed that female students were more conscious of environmental ethics than male students. It is also seen that the awareness of environmental ethics has decreased with increased age. Likewise, it was concluded that the grade level was inversely proportional to the awareness of environmental ethics and it was understood that the place of residence did not have a meaningful impact on the awareness of environmental ethics. In conclusion part of the study, recommendations were made that studies on environmental ethics be implemented upon different samples by different variables, and that environmental ethics awareness level be improved.

“Construction of an Environmental Awareness Scale for Prospective Teachers”
The environmental concern is growing today at greater speed in developing, developed and underdeveloped countries because the consequences of environmental damages has become so apparent and horrifying. Besides destructive trend on environment, sluggish improvement on the environmental awareness and initiatives revealed bitter consequences of the environment. While there is consensus about the severity of environmental degradation taking place worldwide, there is little consensus about what can, and should be done to avert future environmental catastrophe. Educating the public and creating public awareness is a necessity for the success of the environment. Environmental educators need to keep the proper hat on their heads when doing environmental education programs. The emphasis should be on teaching people how to think, rather than what to think. Environmental Awareness not only implies knowledge about environment but also attitude, values and necessary skills to solve environment related problems. People need to learn ways to perceive environmental problems. It is very essential for each individual to develop an awareness of protection and preservation towards environment. It is imperative that humans implement new ways of thinking and change their current ways of living due to the irreversible effects of environmental degradation. It is only the knowledge and understanding that can do this. Prospective teachers not only study this for themselves but can spread the knowledge and understanding to students they will meet in future. A lot of research tools are available to measure environmental awareness of students and teachers but almost no reference was available to measure environmental awareness of Prospective Teachers. So, it was decided to construct an Environmental Awareness Scale for Prospective Teachers. The questionnaire was designed specifically for this study, keeping in mind the fact that environmental degradation is not a prominent environmental issue for people in India, as compared to developed countries. A particular interest was emphasized while constructing this questionnaire so that an understanding of what the prospective teachers have been doing in terms of raising awareness of chemicals and their hazardous nature and to understand their future plans on environmental and chemical awareness. This questionnaire was aimed at uncovering the knowledge and conceptions of prospective teachers i.e. B.Ed. students about the environment and other issues relating to the environment. This tool will help to find out environmental literacy and environmental awareness index of Prospective Teachers.
The present study aims to identify the ecological awareness of the training- teachers from the Chemistry and life Biology departments and its correlate to their academic achievements. Therefore, a sample of (248) training- teachers was randomly selected from Chemistry and Biology departments in the College of Education for their departme nts representation. The study has required building an ecological awareness scale, which was prepared by the researchers based on the literature in the field of standards and testing building. The items of the scale have reached (40) distributed over five areas, each of which has (8) items: air pollution, biosphere, chemical pollution, health care related to human life, and general care for the environment. The results show that the training -teachers have an ecological awareness and that this awareness is positively related to their academic achievement. Finally, the study has made a number of recommendations and suggestions.
