The use of renewable energy source (RES) in meet the demand of electrical energy is getting into attention as solution of the problem a deficit of electrical energy. Application of RES in electricity generation system is done in a variety of configurations, among others in microgrid system. Implementation of microgrid systems provide many advantages both from the user and from the electric utility provider.
Performance Improvement of Grid Tie Inverter on Microgrid of Solar Photovoltaic
Proceeding International Conference on Science (ICST), 2020
Microgrid systems are supplied from solar photovoltaic (PV) as an input grid-tie inverter (GTI). In this research, GTI used is a grid-tie micro-inverter 1000 watt. GTI is a power converter direct current (DC) into alternating current (AC) and can operate when connected to electricity grid utility. GTI output connected to a local load such as incandescent lamps, CFL lamps, small refrigerators, TV and fans. The problem with the microgrid system with GTI is GTI unable to operate to generate power if it does not detect the reference voltage of grid utility (islanding condition). This research proposes the idea to replace electricity grid utility with a battery system from wind power generation when grid utility is interrupted or blackout. The research experiment conducted in a renewable energy laboratory of Faculty of Engineering, University of Mataram. The addition of controlled renewable energy sources such as small wind turbines can improve the performance of GTI to optimize power generated on the microgrid system, when electricity from power grid utility is interrupted or outages. The variables measured in GTI performance testing on the microgrid system are voltage, current, and THD. The value of voltage generated by GTI to 2 conditions of test carried out is still within the allowable standard limit of ± 10% of nominal voltage (220 Volts). Similarly, the THD value of the result is still below the specified standard (5%).
A Comprehensive Study on Microgrid Technology
International Journal of Renewable Energy Research, 2014
Grid connection capability of distributed generation attracts researchers due to the cumulative demand for electricity and environment pollution concern as a new emerging technology for providing reliable and clean power supply. A microgrid comprises distributed generation, energy storage, loads, and a control system that is capable of operating in grid-tied mode and/or islanded mode. As operation modes are shifted, the microgrid should successfully manage the voltage and frequency adjustment in order to protect the grid and any loads connected to the system. Facilitation of the generation-side and load-side management and the resynchronization process is required. This paper presents an overall description and typical distributed generation technology of a microgrid. It also adds a comprehensive study on energy storage devices, microgrid loads, interfaced distributed energy resources (DER), power electronic interface modules and the interconnection of multiple microgrids. Details o...

Analysis Characteristics of On/Off Grid Tie Inverter and Implementation in Microgrid
TELKOMNIKA (Telecommunication Computing Electronics and Control), 2013
Microgrid: Innovation, Challenges and Prospects
IJRASET, 2021
In the present world where environmental issues are posing a great threat to the survival of mankind a better yet effective way of reducing carbon emissions and improving the environment by less usage of fossil fuels was suggested. This approach was called microgrid (MG). Renewable energy resources could be used effectively to produce electricity and can be easily integrated with the conventional grid. This paper elaborates on the basic concept of microgrid, and then describes the challenges and future prospects of the microgrid. Distribution generators along with energy storage devices and proper interfacing power electronic devices are used. Working on the basis of the type of microgrid is also discussed in this paper.
Analysis of electricity energy savings with Grid-Tie system connected to utility grid
IOP Conference Series: Materials Science and Engineering, 2020
The microgrid consists of at least one energy source that is connected to a load in a relatively small area. In practice, microgrid are divided into two types, off-grid systems or often said to be standalone systems and on-grid systems that are connected to utility networks. The use of renewable energy sources, such as photovoltaic, has become an alternative energy for the problem of electricity energy deficits. This research examines the possibility of saving power consumption from the network using a grid-tie inverter (GTI) power converter in a microgrid configuration so synchronization can be made between renewable energy systems and utility networks. The integration of photovoltaic energy resources with the grid system will increase the value of electricity capacity while reducing the use of fossil fuels, as well as a positive impact where the use of renewable energy can reduce energy use and bills to be paid. Integration of grid tie testing carried out without a load can conver...
The demand for high quality electricity and growing electricity consumption has been caused by increasing electrification of daily life causes and the rising number of sensitive or critical loads. Due to the rapid increase in global energy consumption and the diminishing of fossil fuels, the customer demand for new generation capacities and efficient energy production, delivery and utilization keeps rising. The micro grid concept has the potential to solve major problems arising from large penetration of distributed generation in distribution systems. A proper control strategy should be implemented for a successful operation of a micro grid . Different load models can be simulated and analyzed using MATLAB and PSCAD software. In this paper, the work done in the field of Micro Grid has been reviewed.
Introduction, Status and Challenges to MICROGRID : A Review Paper
Microgrids are becoming increasingly attractive to consumers and as such in the future, a great number of them will be installed at consumer’s sites. Micro grid system is formed to provide reliable electricity and heat delivering services by connecting distributed generations and loads together within a small area. Micro grids can cause several technical problems in its operation and control when operated as autonomous systems. This paper is a review of three technical challenges on micro grid with respect to voltage and frequency control, islanding and protection of microgrids. This paper is also a review of different topologies for operation of microgrids. The focus of the paper is centered around the encountered and foreseen issues, enabling technologies and economics for encouraging the deployment of microgrids in India
