A Study on Green Cloud Computing

International Journal of Grid and Distributed Computing, 2013

Cloud computing provides computing power and resources as a service to users across the globe. This scheme was introduced as a means to an end for customer's worldwide, providing high performance at a cheaper cost when compared to dedicated high-performance computing machines. This provision requires huge data-centers to be tightly-coupled with the system, the increasing use of which yields heavy consumption of energy and huge emission of CO2. Since energy has been a prime concern of late, this issue generated the importance of green cloud computing that provides techniques and algorithms to reduce energy wastage by incorporating its reuse. In this survey we discuss key techniques to reduce the energy consumption and CO2 emission that can cause severe health issues. We begin with a discussion on green matrices appropriate for data-centers and then throw light on green scheduling algorithms that facilitate reduction in energy consumption and CO2 emission levels in the existing systems. At the same time the various existing architectures related to green cloud also discussed in this paper with their pros and cons.

A green step towards computing: Green cloud computing

International Journal of Research Studies in Computing, 2016

Due to the exponential growth of internet, Cloud Computing came into existence. Cloud computing describes highly scalable computing resources supplied as an outer service through internet on pay-as-usability basis. Mobile Cloud Computing refers to an infrastructure where data processing and storage can happen away from mobile device. These both computing need large data stores to process the users request, these data stores emit a huge amount of carbon and consume a lot of power which gave birth to Green cloud computing. Green cloud computing is the new era of cloud computing. It is an effective way of cloud computing that guarantees green and pollution free environment with least energy consumption and greener environment. The objective of this paper is to explore the concept of Green Cloud Computing and why do we need green cloud and most importantly how green cloud is different from cloud computing and mobile cloud computing and how it is more advantageous than cloud computing. Here architecture of Green cloud computing is also proposed.

Green Computing: An Era of Energy Saving Computing of Cloud Resources

International Journal of Mathematical Sciences and Computing, 2021

Cloud computing is a widely acceptable computing environment, and its services are also widely available. But the consumption of energy is one of the major issues of cloud computing as a green computing. Because many electronic resources like processing devices, storage devices in both client and server site and network computing devices like switches, routers are the main elements of energy consumption in cloud and during computation power are also required to cool the IT load in cloud computing. So due to the high consumption, cloud resources define the high energy cost during the service activities of cloud computing and contribute more carbon emissions to the atmosphere. These two issues inspired the cloud companies to develop such renewable cloud sustainability regulations to control the energy cost and the rate of CO 2 emission. The main purpose of this paper is to develop a green computing environment through saving the energy of cloud resources using the specific approach of identifying the requirement of computing resources during the computation of cloud services. Only required computing resources remain ON (working state), and the rest become OFF (sleep/hibernate state) to reduce the energy uses in the cloud data centers. This approach will be more efficient than other available approaches based on cloud service scheduling or migration and virtualization of services in the cloud network. It reduces the cloud data center's energy usages by applying a power management scheme (ON/OFF) on computing resources. The proposed approach helps to convert the cloud computing in green computing through identifying an appropriate number of cloud computing resources like processing nodes, servers, disks and switches/routers during any service computation on cloud to handle the energy-saving or environmental impact.

GREEN CLOUD COMPUTING

— while searching for information about cloud computing over the internet, I came across a computing keyword that is Green Computing. After so much of research on this term I myself tried to have the clear vision about it. This paper will help the researchers and administrators to have a clear understanding of Green Computing. In this modern era of globalization, computers play a vital role in every field, so the needs of computers increased day by day and, to full fill this need, a large amount of electricity required for manufacturing of computers functional units, such as CPU, memory, monitors and peripheral devices etc. By this a large amount of carbon content consumes in the atmosphere. These carbon contents directly or indirectly impact us and responsible for hazards on the earth. However, the growing demand of Cloud infrastructure has drastically increased the energy consumption of data centres, which has become a critical issue. High energy consumption not only translates to high operational cost, which reduces the profit margin of Cloud providers, but also leads to high carbon emissions which is not environmentally friendly. There are many technique used by intelligent people to overcome this problem, one of that technique is Green computing. Green Computing takes responsibility of eco-friendly use of computer and their resources. In order to design such solutions, deep analysis of Cloud is required with respect to their power efficiency. Mainly, IT industries are responsible for 3% of the world's energy consumption with an increase of 20% per year. The main goal of Green computing is to increase the efficiency of the IT products during its lifecycle and endorse the recycling of useless goods and factory waste. This paper introduces some energy efficient techniques of green computing and their use in future.
