Updating the prevalence of canine dirofilariosis in pet dogs in Novi Sad, Vojvodina, Serbia
The aim of this study is to update the prevalence of dirofilarial infections in pet dogs. From the year 2010 to the year 2014, a total of 143 blood samples were collected from privately owned pet dogs in Novi Sad. All samples were examined by wet blood smears, the modified Knott test and heartworm antigen test. Circulating microfilariae of both Dirofilaria (D.) immitis and D. repens were found in dogs. Prevalence values for D. immitis and D. repens were 16.78% (24/143) and 18.88% (27/143), respectively. We report mixed infection with both parasites for the first time. Results of this study, compared with results of previous investigations, shows increase of infection with D. immitis and increase of mixed infection with both Dirofilaria species. Further investigations are required with higher number of samples to confirm these findings.
Preliminary observations of an epidemiological survey in dirofilariosis of dogs from Timis County

This study was conducted to determine the prevalence of Dirofilaria infection in dogs from Timis County, Romania. Blood samples were collected from 94 dogs from February 2008 to March 2009 and were examined by modified Knott's technique, Fresh blood smear and specific antigen test-Speed DIRO / HEARTWORM (Bio Veto Test, France). Of the total of 94 dogs, 4 were positive for Dirofilaria spp. with a prevalence value of 4.25%.
Short Paper: A Study on Dirofilaria Immitis in Healthy Urban Dogs from Ahvaz, Iran

Summary Heartworm infection is one of the most important p arasitic diseases in dogs and an increasing number of cases are reported each year by necropsy in Ahvaz. This study was conducted to determine the prevalenc e of Dirofilaria immitis infection and to investigate the risk factors rela ted to heartworm disease in urban dogs in this area. Blood samples were collected from 100 dogs from Feb 2007 to Feb 2008. All samples were examined by modified Knott test, direct smear and a ntigen detection (Immunochromatographic antigen rapid canine D. immitis Ag Test Kit) technique to detect circulating micro filaria and adult antigen of D. immitis , respectively. Of the total 100 dogs, 1% were positi ve by direct smear, 5% were positive by modified Knott test and 6% were positive by antigen detection. A Survey on Dirofilaria immitis Occurence in Stray Dogs of Tabriz (Iran)

To determine the prevalence of microfilariae Dirofilaria immitis (canine heart worm) infection in Tabriz (East-Azarbaijan province, Iran), blood samples from 63 male and 37 female stray dogs of six age groups (< 1 years, 1-3 years, 3-5 years, 5-7 years, 7-9 years and > 9 years) were analyzed by means of the Knott method. Dirofilaria immitis infection was found in 30 of 100 tested dogs (30%). Male dogs (33.3%) were more infected than females (24.3%), but this difference was not significant. Higher prevalence was found in > 9 years old dogs than in other age groups, but this difference was not statistically significant. It would be useful to apply prevention measures to control Dirofilaria immitis infection in the canine population of Tabriz.
