Geography Didactics – theory and methodology (Bulgarian case)
Annales Universitatis Paedagogicae Cracoviensis Studia Geographica
Understanding, mastering and applying new ideas in geography didactics is the most proper way to achieve a high professionalism in geography education in Bulgaria. Such professionalism implies three prerequisites: a scientifically based (and not only intuitive) professional activity, high and sustainable results and a clear positive attitude towards it. The high professionalism is the required basis for successful solving the current problems of Bulgarian geography education which are of different nature: training and further qualification of working staff, preparation of needed school documentation for thematic subject “Geography and Economy” and the design of research programs and projects in school practice. Undoubtedly, we have to explore the foundations of didactics (its theory and methodology) because it is the starting point for creative problem solving or the implementation of upcoming geography educational tasks. In this context, and against the background of the increasing...

Methodological and Thematic Trends: A Case Study of Two Pedagogical Journals in Croatia
New Horizons in Subject-Specific Education: Research Aspects of Subject-Specific Didactics, 2020
Over the past three decades, various research methods have been developed in the field of subject-specific educational research. The individual subject didactics have been consolidated enormously, each in its way and at a different pace. The scientific monograph New Horizons in Subject-Specific Education is a study work containing complete and in-depth research of subject-specific didactics, written by several authors from Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The monograph presents new ideas and developments in subject didactics, which are of significant importance to those working in the field. It reflects both the diversity of research concerns in this field and the range of methods used to investigate them. The book consists of four thematic parts-STEM Education, Sport and Art Education, Social Science and Humanities Education, and Pedagogy. We hope that the monograph New Horizons in 2 NEW HORIZONS IN SUBJECT-SPECIFIC EDUCATION RESEARCH ASPECTS OF SUBJECT-SPECIFIC DIDACTICS. Over the past three decades, a variety of research methods have been developed in the field of subject-specific educational research. The scientific monograph New Horizons in Subject-Specific Education is a study work containing complete and in-depth research of subject-specific didactics, written by several authors from Slovenia, Croatia, Slovakia and the Czech Republic. The monograph presents new ideas and developments which are of significant importance to those working in the field of subject didactics. It reflects both the diversity of research concerns in this field and the range of methods used to investigate them. The basic framework of the monograph was developed at the conference The role of subject didactics for the competences of the future held at the Faculty of Education, University of Maribor, in October 2019. The conference presented findings from practitioners and researchers from a wide range of academic fields interested in researching educational issues and contributing to the scientific discourse. This monograph targets a wide readership-scientists, professors, students, teachers, decision-makers, editors of journals and repositories. As such, it creates area-specific questions. Readers working in the field of education could perhaps think about certain aspects of their research and teaching, such as what kind of teaching models they use in their classrooms, whether these models contribute to the success of students in their discipline area, how they learn about the new trends in education research, and what role they, as teachers educators, play in society.
New Horizons in Subject-Specific Education/Research Aspects of Subject-Specific Didactics
Methodological and Thematic Trends: A Case Study of Two Pedagogical Journals in Croatia, 2020
The aim of the research was to examine the methodological and thematic trends in scientific periodicals in the field of pedagogy. Two Croatian journals for education, Život i škola and Napredak in the period from 2012 to 2017, were analysed. A total of 370 articles were analysed, 143 from Napredak and 227 from Život i škola. The research results indicate that the analysed period is dominated by the topics of assessment, teacher competence, and teaching climate, while the topic of the future of education is the least represented in all segments. In methodological terms, the dominant papers are those with empirical quantitative research and categorization of original scien tific and review papers. Based on the analysis of the obtained facts, the main conclusions were synthesized, and they show that the methodological and thematic trends in Croatian scientific periodicals occur with an emphasis on the dominance of the positivist paradigm, lack of historical, theoretical and futuristic research, and a small number of studies with a qualitative methodological approach.
CURSIV ◊ No . 19 ◊ 2016 Comparative Disciplinary Didactics
2016
This article discusses two issues. The first issue concerns the implication for the content of education, as well as for instructional practice, of ideas regarding visible learning and evidence-based practice. This is discussed in relation to the syllabuses in the latest Swedish National Curriculum. These are organized around, on the one hand, specific capabilities that the students are expected to develop within the different school subjects and, on the other hand, specified knowledge requirements, i.e. what the students must do in order to gain different marks. I argue that the combined effect of ideas about visible learning and evidence-based practice, as well as self-regulated learning and the prescribed knowledge requirements in the national syllabuses, implicates a "backwards pedagogy" where the teaching is based upon the expected outcome. This, in turn, implies a strong focus on how to perform rather than on the knowledge to be acquired. The result may be a kind of pseudo-knowledge; i.e., the students are trained to appear knowledgeable. The second issue concerns the transformation of educational objectives (formulated as capabilities) into a content and teaching practice in accordance with a perspective of "Bildung". I suggest a focus on designing teaching practices that represent different knowledge practices and cultures as represented by different school subjects. Cultures of knowledge can be seen as different ways of knowing as well as different ways of generating new knowledge. The epistemological practice turn transforms the concept of Bildung-enhancing the significance of teaching as representing different knowledge practices.
Didaktik in Continental European pedagogy: An analysis of its origins and problems
Uluslararası Eğitim Programları ve Öğretim Çalışmaları Dergisi, 2018
The aim of this study is to describe, in a historical and philosophical context, the foundations and developmental lines of a tradition defined as curriculum science or “didaktik” in Continental Europe, particularly in Germany and Scandinavia. The principal aim here is introducing a theoretical approach based on a different philosophy, in addition to the techno-scientific Anglo-American theoretical approach. Didaktik tradition has been of particular interest for curriculum researchers especially in the past two decades. With such an interactive focus, this paper is divided into four sections. Because this paper traces historical and philosophical pathways of inquiry, its research method is purely qualitative, based on document analysis. The findings of this analytical study are expected to contribute to the wider recognition of a philosophical-pedagogical tradition, which has not hitherto been paid much attention in Turkey.
International Journal of Curriculum Development and Practice, Vol. 1, pp. 1-21., 2018
The paper discusses processes of organizational development and personal development in subject didactics (pedagogy of subjects) as a particular field of social science research. Starting from the assumption of the interdependency of the three components in the 'developmental triangle' (organizational development, personal development, knowledge management) the paper gives insight into a successful longterm process of coordination, cooperation and communication among scholars working in 14 different fields of subject didactics. Over a period of twelve years (2001-2013) this process contributed to the institutional acknowledgment and the empowerment of the discipline(s) as new field(s) of research.
Science of Pedagogy: Theory of Educational Discipline and Practice
Journal of Teacher Education for Sustainability
The article addresses and provides an introduction to pedagogy in its capacity of science and a university discipline in the field of education sciences. Nowadays not only teacher education programmes are embedded in theories and follow transitions of pedagogy. These have become even more complex, therefore, challenge new discussions in the evolving importance of human relations and transition towards learning-centred science of pedagogy to underpin practice of competence-oriented education. Based on the main historical processes in Latvia and along with informative insight into the practices of European universities and research, the article traces the traditional background of pedagogy, the challenging role of philosophy to foster understanding of pedagogy as a unique, well-structured science with its object of investigation, which is not being explored by any other science. Alongside the discrete field of education and constantly evolving research, pedagogy develops its theories,...
