The role of information and communication technology in the development of tertiary education in Nigeria is the central focus of this paper. The paper explores ways to harness the power of information and communication technology for the development of tertiary education in particular, and education in general in Nigeria. Recognizing that technology could be a key component of education, the paper examines the recent rapid growth of the information and communication technology and some of the implications of the technology for the growth and development of tertiary education in Nigeria. Modern electronic educational technology being an important part of society today, the paper demonstrates that e-learning, instructional technology, ICT in education, multimedia learning, computer-based instruction, computer-based training, web-based learning, virtual learning environments, m-learning and the other related terms are all part of educational technology which is trending in Nigeria’s tertiary education.
