Research indicates that academic procrastination is a common attitude among learners, and that it generally has a negative correlation with academic performance. The present quantitative causal-comparative study aims to determine the cause of differences, in terms of procrastination tendency, in academic performance among online learners. The study further investigates whether academic procrastination tendency significantly predicts the academic performance of online learners. The sample included a total of 333 online distance learners, from whom data were obtained through an online survey. Results showed that there was no statistically significant difference between male and female learners in terms of academic procrastination. Moreover, low procrastinators had better academic performance than that of high procrastinators, and learners' academic procrastination tendencies significantly predicted academic performance. These results demonstrate that academic procrastination tendency is an important indicator for predicting the academic achievements of online learners.

Year two: Effect of procrastination on academic performance of undergraduate online students
2020
Procrastination presents problems not only for undergraduate students, but also for undergraduate faculty, and the effects of student procrastination on academic performance is a joint concern. This two-year follow up study seeks to better understand the relationship between academic performance and the actual time of submission of assignments relative to the deadline imposed on those submissions. The authors investigated the effect of academic assignment submission time and the academic grades earned before, on, and after the assignment submission deadline. These results continue to suggest that the earlier assignments are submitted, the higher the grades tend to be. Therefore, online faculty need to encourage undergraduate online students to develop a better understanding of the potential benefits of adopting the habit of earlier submission of assignments.

The results of this study show that there are differences in self-perception, self-efficacy, selfresilience, and academic procrastination owned by students for online and offline learning. Offline learning is considered better for students as evidenced by the fact that when compared to both learning systems (online and offline), offline learning has higher self-perception, selfefficacy, self-resilience, and academic procrastination than online learning.

The study was designed to investigate the prevalence and reasons for academic procrastination in public university students. The sample consisted of 200 university students including 155 women and 45 men students from social and natural sciences departments. Academic procrastination and reasons for it were measured by Procrastination Assessment Scale for Students (Solomon & Rothblum, 1984a). Backward linear regression analysis has shown that risk taking, task aversiveness, and decision-making were significant predictors (reasons) for academic procrastination while task aversiveness being strongest predictor with medium level coefficient of regression. It was also revealed that academic procrastination prevails at all three levels of education (MSc, MPhil and PhD). Task aversiveness, time management, laziness, rebellion against control, decision making, and lack of assertion were more common reasons in students of social sciences than natural sciences as shown by significant differences. Overall task aversiveness, fear of failure, dependency, decision making and risk taking were common reasons for indulging into academic procrastination.
