Comparison of Teaching Tense through Texts and Drills: A Case Study in Thailand was to study the effectiveness, the causes and advantages and disadvantages of the effects following from these teaching methods. Both grammar classes of grade 11 students of English Program Department of Assumption College Thonburi were taught by two different teaching methods, using texts and drills. They were tested by pre-test and post-test. The results and the opinions of both tests of both classes were compared. The students in the class taught by drills got higher development score; however, the other class already got high scores in their pre-test and we can't see much improvement from their score because there's not much chance to improve anymore. Moreover, the questionnaire asking about the students' opinions and suggestions about the tests expressed that one of the most possible way suggested is that teachers should choose the teaching styles which are appropriate with their own students according to some specific, individual factors of each class.
Improving Students’ Tenses Mastery Through Substitution Drill

The study focused on the use of substitution drill technique to improve the EFL students' mastery of tenses-simple present and past tense-which were most of students still got into trouble in learning them, particularly when to put of verb-s/es, verb 1, verb 2 and also the auxiliary verb such as do, does and did. Therefore, this study is an endeavor to examine effectiveness of applying the substitution drill to enhance the junior high-school students' mastery of tenses. This study applied pre-experimental design employing one group pretest and posttest. The participants consisted of 27 the third-grade students' SMP Ammana Gappa Makassar, South Sulawesi. The researcher used t-test analysis to find out whether or not the use of substitution drill can improve the students' mastery of tenses. The result of the study indicated that there were differences between students' achievement of tenses mastery in pretest and posttest. It was proved by the value of t-test was greater than the value of t-table (22.24>2.056) with the level of significance (P) = 0, 05 and degree of freedom (N-1) = 26. The mean score of the posttest (71.62) was higher than the mean score of pretest (52.44). It may conclude that the implementation of the substitution drill as a teaching technique of tenses in SMP Amanna Gappa could improve the student's mastery of the tenses.

This research aims to investigate the influence of teaching English tenses through group discussion method towards student’s achievement in tenses mastery at 1st semester students of English department of Mathla’ul Anwar University, Banten. In this research, writer employs the quantitative approach that based on the result of proposing item tests to respodents of the research. Meanwhile design with the characteristics of experimental method, here the researcher conducted test as an instrument. Student’s Tenses mastery is an important competence to support the major English skills, listening, speaking, reading, and writing. Implementing certain strategies in teaching tenses often brings certain challenges as well as positive effects. This research aimed to explore the challenges faced by English teachers and the positive effects they experienced in implementing strategies they chose in teaching tenses based on teachers’ perception. This qualitative research was conducted at a Language Training Center (LTC) of a private university in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Interviews were administered to three female and one male English teachers with two to seven years of teaching experience to explore their experiences in implementing strategies in teaching tenses. This study aims at finding out the EFL students’ perception on teaching english tenses using drilling technique at SUBEC Palangka Raya. This study belongs to a descriptive survey study with a quantitative approach. For the data collection, it was used the instruments such as documentation, questionnaire, and interview. The population of the study was the EFL students’ of the beginner I level at SUBEC Palangka Raya, with a sample of 30 students.
