CONNECTOR: A Geolocated Mobile Social Service
The widespread and availability of increasingly powerful mobile devices is contributing for the incorporation of new services and features on our daily communications and social relationships. In this context, geolocation of users and points of interest in mobile devices may contribute, in a natural way, to support either the mediation of remote conversations as the promotion of face-to-face meetings between users, leveraging social networks. The CONNECTOR system is based on geolocation data (people, content and activities), enabling users to create and develop their personal relations with other members of the CONNECTOR social network. Users, maps, sharing features and multimedia content are actors in this social network allowing CONNECTOR to address the promotion of geolocated social networks driven by physical proximity and common interests among users. This chapter discusses the work undertaken for the conceptualization and development of the CONNECTOR system. Preliminary evaluation results along with usage contexts are also presented. The chapter concludes with a discussion about future developments in geolocation and personalization in mobile communication services.
Geographically Aware Social Application for Mobile Devices
Summary The aim of this project was to produce a geographically aware application for mobile devices that would allow friends to view each other's locations on a map to aid in navigation and meeting up with one other. The aim was also to improve upon the ideas of other existing systems. It was also hoped that users could become more social by knowing each other's whereabouts. The project grew through further research and this report details the research, design, implementation and testing of the system.
An object based conceptual framework for location based social networking
Proceedings of the 6th ACM SIGSPATIAL International Workshop on Location-Based Social Networks - LBSN '13, 2013
In the current technological era the value of information sharing has emerged enormously while the contemporary phenomenon of Social Networking (SN) has provided an avenue for sharing information. The ubiquitous nature of SN services has focused mainly on "Who", "What" and "When", while the "Where" dimension has mainly been neglected. Only recently after realizing that "Where" dimension of information is present in almost 80% of raw data, the SN platforms have started utilizing the location based information. This has led to the emergence of a new field, namely Location Based Social Networking (LBSN). A comprehensive literature review of LBSN reveals several shortcomings in both, the research and industrial implementation. One of the primary weaknesses is that the location in LBSN is being assumed and treated just as an auxiliary part of information (post, pictures, videos etc.) and not as a core element. This treatment undermines the true significance of location based information in LBSN. To overcome this limitation, current paper proposes an object based conceptual framework in which location reforms itself from a mere noncompulsory attribute of information to a completely new form i.e. an object. The location as an object will have its own attributes and associated behaviors. When this new location based information object is integrated into a LBSN platform, the interactions between location and human objects instigates, which resultantly exhibits new aspects of social and spatial communication not witnessed previously in LBSN.

The Design of a Generic Engine for the Development of Location Based Social Media Applications
There are many social media applications now available but these are built on bespoke systems that often don¿t not open to developers for them to expand or alter the functionality or implementation. With the growth in mobile devices and specifi- cally, the availability of built-in location determining technologies there is a growing demand for social media applications to become location specific. In this paper it is argued that in order to meet this growing demand, developers need a generic, open source, engine that can provide all of the features and functions required to realise location orientated social media applications. The design of such an engine is presented and progress with its implementation discussed.

Programming of sophisticated location-based service applications (LBS apps) for smartphones and tablets still requires knowledge in computer science and a lot of practical experience in the application of existing programming tools for the different operating systems. This means that only a fraction of possible LBS applications has been realized until today. In particular, smaller companies and organizers of one-time events cannot afford to buy custom developed apps; especially if one takes dataquality and maintenance cost of varying app content into account. The presented AIONAV®-LBS app technology allows for creating offlinefocused (but also online-capable) LBS applications without any programming skills and to publish them immediately. This is accomplished by a strict separation of content and user interface on the mobile device. The graphical user interface contains all the functions needed for general LBS applications, i.e. search functions, different graphical content presenta...

Social Network has influenced the life of People by understanding user's behaviors andlocation history. Place based Social Networking provides a new platform to understand preference awarerecommendation system that offers a particular user a set of venues or places within ageospatial range. User's Personal preferences about the place can be learned from his history ofactivity on the website. This recommendation system can facilitate people's travel not only neartheir living area but also to a city that is new to them. We system would be using large-scale realdataset collected from Foursquare. This data will help about the place that they own and would liketo follow. We present a new approach, known as user-centered collaborative location and activityfiltering, to pull many users' data together and apply collaborative filtering to find like-mindedusers and like-patterned activities at different locations. The project would make user aware of theinformation that they need regarding a Business place or any other interesting place.
