ECO-VILLAGE, AMODEL OF SUSTAINABLE ARCHITECTURE
Ecology is one of the important issues in creating sustainable residential areas like eco-cities and eco-villages. Today, development of cities and villages has created many environment damages and presenting some solutions to minimize these damages is useful. We should find a new model of residential area to fulfill with the new community requirements and create sustainable development in urban and village residential areas. The present study introduces and evaluates eco-village and how eco-villages have considered the concept of sustainability. Also, this study evaluates how sustainability goals based on the main solutions of sustainable architecture can focus on three important criteria of ecology, society and culture. The study method is based on document and analytic descriptive study. Finally, some solutions are introduced to create eco-villages based on the criteria in sustainable architecture.

This paper analyses the presence of sustainable elements in one of the most representative surviving examples of vernacular residential architecture from the Ottoman period, located in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The focus is on the significance of vernacular architectural elements, which can serve as an inspiration for contemporary building design in the context of sustainability. Two main aspects need to be considered: respecting the inter-relationship between humans, nature, climate, and local surroundings, and adaptation of design to the time in which it was created. This paper reviews designs of the built environment from a sustainability perspective, emphasizing their importance in achieving ecological and sustainable economic objectives. The built environment has traditionally resulted in loss of biodiversity, extinction of some species, climate change, excessive water use, land degradation, space depletion, waste accumulation, energy consumption and environmental pollution. Materials used like plastics, metals, bricks, concrete, cement, natural aggregates, glass and plaster have wreaked havoc on the earth´s resources, since they have high levels of embodied energy hence not sustainable. Lessons learned from the MILD Home & EcoGreenVillage Competition in Caransebeş, Romania
In this paper the authors intend to share the lessons learned in the designing process of a prototype house unit placed in a eco-village, next to the city of Caransebeş, Romania. The project aims to be socially, ecologically and economically sustainable, being able to be self managed by the residents. The design was awarded first price in the National Stage of the MILD Home & Eco Green Village Competition in Caransebeş, Romania (2013-2014).
Industrialization and technology are effective on many fields, especially architecture. Therefore, building construction accelerate in that any structure can be constructed not only in terms of methodology but also in terms of different materials. However, structure construction is turned from adapting to nature to challenging the nature owing to unconscious usage of technology. In the process of construction, unconscious consumption of material, unnecessary expending energy during transport, pollution during usage and its left behind cause the increasing of carbon foot print. Thus and so, unfortunately, the number of natural sources gradually reduce and the environment fall into ruin. Rapidly growing world population causes decrease in feedstock and increase in necessity of transport and shelter and also fast consumption. Because of this, it caused energy crisis in the 20.th Century. This crisis cause to be aware of "sustainability" term and generate the "echo architecture" term in the architecture. As part of these terms, benefit from sunlight efficiently, providing acoustical and thermal conditions, conservation of energy, adaptation with environment and suitability with material in buildings become important. At the same time, they provide the usage of local materials in architecture thanks to today's technology. The scope of this paper, in terms of echo-architecture, some traditional structures in Turkey are built with local materials and also are specific according to its environment, are investigated. It is observed that these structures contribute echo-architecture in terms of economical, physical, social, cultural and environmental fields during the construction, using and recycling process. Architecture is to adapt to current era that includes technological advance and ever-evolving technological applications. In addition to this, most of the time architectural buildings are design and implemented in ignorance ecological criteria. As a result of this, gradually deterioration in urban silhouette, infrastructure problems and increase in the pollution of living space are ones of the marked examples. However, an architectural structure should be investigated in consideration of the environment and how it can be applied in most harmonies environment. Eco-architectural is to minimize energy requirement of a build with design and material selection. It has been revealed that the negative effects of the materials on the environment are minimized. Thus, the aim of this to partially or completely eliminate the problems arising from the use of energy resources and to provide energy conservation in the structures. The study of traditional and contemporary settlements may have been addressed in a number of publications worldwide whilst still not widely reflected in a Libyan context (Chojnacki, 2003). These topics usually were discussed in narrow sections or carried out by individuals who so often enchanted by and interested in to document the beauty of old solutions. Discussing the discord between old and new solutions needs deeper understanding of their form, elements, functions and the role of context considering the social customs and microclimatic conditions. In Cairo where simple and inexpensive design strategies were used in residential buildings such as vaulted and domed roofs showed 32% less in cooling loads than using conventional flat roofs (Dabaieh et al., 2015). The simulation carried in Dabaieh et al. (2015) study also showed 53% reduction in cooling hours when vaulted roof coated with high albedo ratio and rim angle of 70 is used. Similarly, in the Middle East the climatic features of the courtyard house was investigated by Bekleyen and Dalk (2012) to understand the seasonal movement of residents to better achieve indoor comfort conditions. It can be said that sun-path plays a key role in defining space functionality and other related architectural aspects in traditional architecture. The contemporary movement of sustainable development seems to rather concern with low energy buildings in which so often associated with cost whilst less attention paid to the environmental performance of those buildings (Taylor et al., 2009).

This article deals with the problem of multi-family housing implemented in the 1950s in Poland. Buildings from this period are located in the central districts of cities, and are well-connected and equipped with service infrastructure, but due to the small size of these flats, their low standard and poor technical condition, they are not sufficiently attractive for middle-class people and developing families. The consequence of this is the social selection of residents and the disappearance of neighborly relations. In this article, the authors present a balance sheet of the shortcomings and advantages of these buildings, and against the background of contemporary requirements for housing, resulting from the theory of sustainable development, they indicate possible directions for modernization. In the last few years, Stara planina (the Balkan Mountains) and its surroundings have been improving their tourist offer. The area is protected by law, as a nature park, and the construction of new buildings requires a complex administrative procedure. Renovation of country houses is part of the usual construction procedures and is easier to carry out. Typical renovation solutions involve application of industrial materials with significant impact on the environment from the process of their production and further on. The traditional houses found in many mountains across Serbia and the Balkans are constructed using natural materials. Hence, this paper tackles the problem of renovating such dwellings by application of natural materials to improve their usability and reduce their energy and carbon footprint. An analysis is performed on a case study model of a typical house from Stara planina. The advantages of using natural materials in the process of renovating a traditional house are analysed. By using TRNSYS software, the total amount of energy demands of the house during a typical meteorological year with four scenarios (current state, walls isolated with sheep and hemp wool panels and EPS) was simulated. These materials were further analysed for their environmental impact by means of Life Cycle Analysis (LCA). In the synthesis of the research, the best results were brought into connection with the sustainable development of the architectural heritage. The results prove that natural products provide the necessary thermal comfort and have a significantly more positive impact on the environment than artificial materials. Based on this study, recommendations were created for the sustainable renovation of vernacular architecture in Serbia. The goal of the paper is to create scientific and professional evidence that local and natural materials must be used to reduce the impact of climate change and that such sustainable renovation is in accordance with modern architectural design and thermal comfort. The goal is also to fill the gap in renovation methods in Serbia, according to the principles of sustainable design.
