TECHNO-RELIGION: CONCEPTUALIZATION OF RELIGIOSITY BETWEEN RELIGIOUS INTERACTIONS AND TECHNOLOGICAL DEVICES

International Conference on Islamic Studies and Social Sciences (For Students), 2022

This study looks at the conceptualization of religiosity in the digitalization era among Muslims with technological devices. Religiosity is not a feeling relating to feelings but refers to a relationship. At the same time, this research is included in the category of library research with data collection through searching various kinds of literature with data processing using descriptive-analytical methods through a thick description approach, namely an approach that focuses on the deep meaning of cultural symbols. So the results of this study state that the presence of various devices resulting from technological advances has facilitated changes in worship activities and has also become a tool for transforming religious messages so that they can be accessed more widely by all religious people, including Muslims. Nevertheless, religious people must be more sensitive and careful in receiving these religious messages because various religious information transferred to the virtual environment eliminates the source of information and converts the information into information by eliminating the human element, namely the ulamā' who have a central position in transmission of information in Islamic civilization. With the help of science and technological advances, every Muslim is expected to be able to have a wider dialogue in carrying out his responsibilities to improve the quality of life together and preserve the universe.

ICOMOS Scientific Symposium RELIGIOUS HERITAGE

ICOMOS Scientific Symposium RELIGIOUS HERITAGE, 2022

This book of Abstracts is about the 2022 ICOMOS Scientific Symposium (ScSy22). The ScSy22 is recorded another historical event of ICOMOS. This is the first time Scientific Symposium held two tracks both in situ and online presentations. At the beginning to prepare this ScSy22, the situation of the world was not clear whether peoples can travel freely or not. In fact, we were not sure how many ICOMOS members physically participate in this symposium? That’s why we decided to combine both in situ and online presentations. Theme of the 2022 Scientific Symposium is “Religious Heritage: Celebrating and conserving places of religious and ritual significance in a global world and in changing climates.” Under this theme, we considered 5 sub-themes like as: 1. Significance of Places of Religion and Ritual 2. Influence of Climate Change on the Conservation, Protection and Management of Religious Heritage 3. Changing Use and Perception of Places of Religion and Ritual following the Covid-19 pandemic 4. Practice of Pilgrimage following the Covid-19 pandemic 5. Reuse of Religious Heritage places

In this article, the author shows that progress of info-communications is a key factor of society changes, as it radically changes the key aspects of human life. Studying the time of progress and comparing it with the most important anthropic characteristic -length of human life, he comes to the conclusion that our generation has witnessed the tipping point in the rate of development of human civilization. This showing up in the fact that the present stage of the scientific and technological advance lead to the transformation, perhaps on the same scale, what were the appearance of written language and publishing, but these multiple fundamental changes in the life of society occur within the life of a single generation. In these circumstances, the task of forecasting, in its traditional setting, is becoming increasingly inaccurate. According to the author, the only possibility is to venture outside the framework of formal logic and technocratic approaches and try to find answers to t...

Interreligious Perspectives on Emerging Technologies

Mind, Genes and Self: Religious reflections on the impact of emerging technologies on human identity, 2018

The different book chapters represent a robust conversation of six religious groups regarding the interface of neuroscience and genetics with their traditions. Some Hindu scholars challenge the Western epistemological categories of religion, ethics and the relevance of such applications in science. All these world religions discuss the anthropological questions of selfhood and identity, the understanding of soul, spirit, mind and brain, and the relationship between the individual and the collective from their respective philosophies and theologies. They ponder if such novel technological applications on the genome or the brain can alter their long-held beliefs and whether they reduce the soul or selfhood to some matter of physics. Others worry about a form of determinism that negates the existence of our spiritual nature and free will. There is also a concern that such innovations may further propagate social discrimination and injustice. Finally, religious wisdom questions the prudence of “perfecting” humanity with the hubris of the transhumanist project.
