A Study of Customary Marriage at Patuola’s Culture in Nagekeo Flores
Traditional marriage customs are concerned by authorizing the marriage of men and women. Customary marriage is a form of local culture that grew in the midst of society. This form of local culture isa different and unique in a particular community. This can be seen in its implementation ordinances and values that emerge from that culture. Based on the above, research problem formulation has the following objectives, (1) Describe the ethical values in society customary marriage ceremony in Pautola Nagekeo, (2) Describe the marriage customs value of aesthetics in society in Pautola Nagekeo, (3) Describe the value of religion in peoples' customary marriage in Pautola Nagekeo, (4) Describe the social value of marriage customs in society in Pautola Nagekeo. The research uses Descriptive method. This research is conducted in Patuola which located in Patuola village, Nagekeo regency, East Nusa Tenggara province.The researcher took the data needed by interviewing people who live on Patuola and listed the data collected so it’s easier to describe. From the findings, Pautola society in the course of his life while maintaining the noble heritage from generation to generation, one of the traditions that are still maintained until now is the tradition of marriage. Pautola community customary marriage agencies establish mating process into four stages of marriage, namely: (a) Palu Dheko marriage (b) Da Donggo marriage (c) Tendu marriage and (d) Nggae Fai marriage. The values of the ceremony are grouped in several types, namely (1) the value of ethics regarding good and bad about human behavior, (2) the aesthetic value, associate with beauty, (3) the value of religion, associated with the commands and prohibitions of God, (4) social values, concerning the relationship between human and social life

This study aimed to determine the extent of observance of the cultural practices of the tribal communities in the Upland municipalities of Ilocos Sur, Philippines. The respondents of this study were the federated officials of the tribal communities in Ilocos Sur, Philippines. This study employed the descriptive survey research with a questionnaire as an instrument in data gathering. The researchers’ findings and conclusions are as follows: Despite the fact that people are now living in the modern age, the tribal communities still preserved some of their cultural practices. Much of the value system being practiced by the tribal communities since the early days is still presently observed. The traditional justice system is sometimes observed by them. Traditions and customs play an important role in society, more specifically the people who still uphold the principles of the hereditary life of tete nene moyang (ancestors).The same applies to Elaar Lamagorang village, East Kei Kecil District, Southeast Maluku Regency. The village has a special tradition of welcoming the bride. This tradition is called Tifa Yanad Vat Masadin Duak e. This tradition must be passed by every wife of men in the village. Even for those who have lived outside the village, this tradition is imposed when they returne to the village. The purpose of this writing is to understand and explain the meaning of Tifa Yanad vat masadin duak e tradition. The method used was descriptive qualitative method. The results show that this tradition continues to be maintained as part of family education where married couples are taught to interpret marriage as a communion together in love, so there is mutual appreciation, respect and responsibility for the marriage.

This research is aimed at describing the marriage custom procession of Sasak Ethnic group in Lombok, Indonesia which is represented in the modern cilokaq text titled 'Ngiring Penganten' (The Bridal Parade). The data on the ethnic wedding procession of Sasak ethnic group in Lombok island which are represented in modern text of 'cilokaq' were then internalised into the wedding procession of Sasak ethnic group of Lombok. This study of literature used content analysis that is the descriptive qualitative method. The discussion of cilokaq text 'ngiring penganten' is analyzed using Dilthey's Hermeneutics. The other data used in this study also include video footage of cilokaq tradition by L. Syukri and Teguh K downloaded from YouTube. The video footage was then transcribed and analyzed to study the form of wedding procession in the Sasak ethnic group in Lombok. Findings have shown that there are several forms of traditional Lombok Sasak ethnic marriage procession contained in the modern art text of Cilokaq 'The Bridal Parade' by L. Syukri and Teguh K., namely: 1) 'Memaling' (symbolic bride kidnapping ritual), 2) 'Ngawinang' (the marriage), and 3) 'Nyongkolan' (the wedding party). All three forms of traditional rituals which are part of a traditional wedding procession include: a) Sejati or besejati, b) Selabar, c) 'Bait wali' (seeking consent from the guardian of the bride to witness the wedding), and d) Sorong serah (handing over the bride to the groom's family).

This research aimed at describe the tradition of the Javanese traditional community wedding ceremony at Huta III Bandar Jawa, Bandar Subdistrict, Simalungun Regency. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. The results of the research were carried out by observation, interviews, and documentation. This research found that the Javanese traditional wedding tradition in Huta III generally consists of eleven processions, namely 1) peningsetan, 2) saserahan, 3) pasangtarub or tratag, 4) malamlamaran, 5) kerik-an, 6) ijabkabul, 7) temumanten, 8) lemparsirih, 9) injaktelur (wijidadi), 10) sungkeman, 11) tepungtawar and marhaban. Many cultures and traditions are endangered and have been extinct. One of them is the Ba’usung tradition. The Ba’usung tradition is one of the traditions in the marriage ceremony of the Banjar tribe that is no longer much done by the younger generation. This research is aimed to elucidate the procession of Ba’usung tradition in the Banjar tribe marriage ceremony in sub-district of Tembilahan Hulu of Indragiri Hilir District. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative method. In-depth observation and interviews with informants was used to collect the data. The result of the research can be concluded as follows: Ba’usung tradition is held when the groom arrives at the bride’s house, precisely before the bride and the groom sit side by side at the wedding dais, which, in the Banjar tribe, is called batatai. Marriage customs are a cultural heritage that needs to be preserved and preserved. For this reason, there is a need for mutual awareness that cultural heritage requires management so that it remains sustainable for the next generation. This series of wedding ceremonies can be divided into several stages, such as asking for a hand, delivering the dowry, religious validation, and traditional ceremonies. Likewise, in Nias culture, they have a wedding ceremony called fangowalu. Nias traditional marriages continue to transform according to the times, both weddings on Nias Island and Nias traditional weddings in Medan City, it is known that many marriage processes must be passed according to their original customs, but for the Nias tribe in Medan City it is not all the marriage process is carried out, this is following the existing situation and conditions. The transformation of the Nias traditional marriage system in the city of Medan is caused by the influence caused by socio-cultural factors that exist in the people of the city of Medan. Some of the changes/transformations that exist include those related to a simpler wedding procession and the proposed dowry does not require livestock.
Cultural Values of Oko Mama: Marriage Proposal Ritual Speech In Bokong Community- Indonesia

This paper discussed the cultural values of Oko Mama speech. The Oko Mama itself is a marriage proposal ritual in Bokong Community, Indonesia. The descriptive qualitative method was applied together with observation and interview techniques. Data of observation and interview were the primary data sources. Meanwhile, the secondary data sources were documents related to the problems. The results showed that the cultural values implied in oko mama, namely: (a) social value which consists of cooperative value and the appreciation to girl’s parents value, and (b) religious value.

The Itawis is one of the indigenous groups of Isabela, Philippines, along with the Ybanags, Yogads, and Gaddangs. In Cagayan Valley, two groups of Itawis are found: one from the Province of Cagayan and the other, from Echague, Isabela.This study was conducted to determine what is left of the traditional practices of the indigenous group “Itawis” of Echague, Isabela, Philippines that are gradually vanishing due to the modern way of living or due to acculturation. The study used the descriptive research method. The researchers, who belong to the minorities themselves, gathered the data of the study through immersion with the living cultural masters and through participation in the rituals. In each region, of course, there is a diversity of customs that apply in the indigenous people of an area, one of which is regarding marriages carried out customarily. Customary marriage is an important and sacred event for indigenous peoples, to live together as husband and wife with the aim of realizing the unity of a happy and eternal home, in which there is a great responsibility not only to the integrity of their household but also to the environment, society and also God. Regarding the issue of Indonesian customary law, it is very principled because adat is one of the mirrors for the nation, adat is an identity for the nation, and identity for each region. Indonesia is a country that adheres to plurality in the field of law, where the existence of western law, religious law and customary law is recognized. This research study is juridical normative as the main approach, considering that the discussion is based on laws and legal principles that apply in customary marriage issues.
