IMPLEMENTATION OF THE TEACHING OF ARABIC AT THE FACULTY OF HUMANITIES, UNIVERSITY OF NORTH SUMATRA INDONESIA

This study was aimed at identifying the implementation of language teaching especially the teaching of Arabic language at the Faculty of Humanities, University of North Sumatra Indonesia. In particular, it was also aimed at identifying the implementation of the techniques, practices and frequency of the usage of teaching and learning aids in the classroom. This research utilised the survey method where a sample of 91 students from the Faculty of Humanities, University of North Sumatra were involved. The study used questionnaires which were distributed to the student respondents to examine their evaluation toward the implementation of the teaching and learning of Arabic at the Faculty of Humanities. Data analysis used in this study comprised of descriptive statistics, namely frequency, mean and standard deviation by using SPSS version 18. The findings showed that the overall total for each research question in relation to the implementation of teaching and learning techniques from the perspective of the students was moderate (m = 3.13, sd: 0.768).). The results also showed that the implementation of teaching and learning of Arabic in the classroom from the perspective of the students was high (m = 3.52, sd: 0.829). The findings also demonstrated that the frequency of the use of teaching and learning aids in the classroom from the perspective of the students was low (m = 1.78, sd: 0.807 ). This study recommends that the lecturers need to have positive attitude toward learning and teaching techniques and implement the teaching and learning of Arabic using a more effective technique. In addition, the lecturers should also attempt to solve the problems faced in the teaching and learning of the Arabic language through the creative, innovative and effective use of instructional technology so that the students' Arabic language proficiency can be improved. Therefore, the latest teaching and learning techniques such as e-learning and mobile learning should be applied in the teaching and learning of Arabic at the Faculty of Humanities, University of North Sumatra, apart from improving the techniques and the frequency of usage of the existing techniques. This application will further strengthen and enhance proficiency in the language especially mastery of the Arabic language among the students. Towards a Learning System Based on Arabic NLP Tools

The evolution of computer technology stimulates us to develop a learning environment that addresses many of the problems associated with the use of words in Arabic. A learning platform of Arab foreign language used automatic language processing tools (NLP) based on multi-agent approach. Initially, this environment gives teachers the ability to automatically design other variants of educational activities, which notably includes automatic evaluations. Arabic Language Learning (ALL) for Kids

Arabic Language has an exceptional position in Islam. It is the language of Quran, thus the need to learn and understand Arabic amongst Muslims is of paramount importance. For countries where their native language is not Arabic, the language is only taught in special schools with early ages such as in the kindergarten. With the advent of computer technology, various kind of multimedia tools have been developed for the purpose of language learning. Research on Learning Strategies in Arabic Language Education

The learning of Arabic language like any other foreign language contains four main aspects; reading, writing, speaking and understanding while listening.[i] This learning process can be enhanced if the most appropriate Learning Strategy is used. In this paper the most appropriate Learning Strategy of Arabic Language is suggested. The course outlines for Arabic language are thoroughly studied and several professors and experts of Arabic Language from Pakistan, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Sudan are interviewed. iLEINITIATIVE: Interactive Online Platform In Teaching and Learning Arabic For Gifted Students

The study examined the effectiveness of an interactive learning platform known as "Intelligent Learning Environment" or iLE that was developed for the PERMATAInsan School Holiday programme. iLE was the online class and support system for the teaching and learning of the Arabic language for gifted and talented students who are non-native speakers of Arabic language. Methodology-From more than 200 programme participants, the researchers randomly selected 10% (20 students) of them. They were primary students who joined the programme since the age of eight. Separate interview sessions were planned, and they were video-recorded. Their responses were analysed using NVivo 10 software. Findings-Respondents found out that iLE helped them in their Arabic language study and revision. The interactive online learning site was easily accessible and always updated. It also helped them to communicate with the tutor and this method also provided instructors the flexibility of portal contents development. Significance-The iLEportal was an efficient online learning model and it was beneficial in increasing students' vocabulary which in turn improves their writing and reading skills.
