Environment impact of a concentrated solar power plant
Tehnički glasnik, 2019
More recently, there has been an increasing interest in the use of concentrated solar thermal energy for the production of electricity, but also for the use in cogeneration and trigeneration. In this sense, the increasing use of solar thermal energy in urban areas is expected, and its impact on the environment is inducing an increasing interest. The paper analyses the impact of concentrated solar power technology (linear Fresnel, parabolic trough, parabolic dish, and central tower) on the environment in terms of water consumption, land use, wasted heat, emissions of gases, emissions of pollutants that include the leakage of heat transfer fluid through pipelines and tanks, impact on flora and fauna, impact of noise and visual impact. The impact on the environment is different for different concentrated solar power technologies and depends on whether thermal energy storage is included in the plant. Water is mainly used for cooling the system, but also for cleaning the surface of the m...
An outline of solar photovoltaic systems impact on environment
Bulletin of Electrical Engineering and Informatics, 2023
The damaging environmental repercussions of energy production are greatly reduced when renewable energy sources are used. Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is reliable and secure, and it also includes benefits like no noise, no pollution, easy maintenance, and no environmental harm. Solar PV technology has emerged as the renewable energy source with the greatest rate of expansion worldwide since fossil fuels are soon running out and have a negative influence on the environment. PV modules reduce carbon dioxide emissions, preserving the environment and preventing global warming. The solar cell efficiency is one of the key elements in developing this PV technology. To increase solar cell efficiency for commercial use, the type of material used in production is essential. After serving its purpose, a PV module can be recycled, and environmentally appropriate disposal won't have much of an effect on the environment. In this article, the impact of solar PV systems and their most recent advancements for environmental preservation are discussed.
Photovoltaic energy and the environment
Energy and Sustainability III, 2011
There are several ways of implementing a PV systems networking site, depending on the income that you would like to achieve. Fixtures can be built with solar tracking axis and two axes solar tracking. In this work we make a detailed comparative study of the implementation of a solar photovoltaic installation in a particular place, the three systems mentioned above. The study was performed from both constructive, analyzing the structural components of each of the systems, such as energy level, from the standpoint of performance and results achieved over a period of time. Obtaining criteria allow, in specific cases, the best choice. In the present work, we will also study the different models needed to obtain the appropriate permissions for the implementation of the system chosen between the ones explained above. Studies which analyze the environment surrounding the facility: the flora, fauna, hydrology and winds in the area or Environmental Impact Study. As well, the impact that the construction of an installation of this magnitude affects visually the area where it is located or Study of Landscape Integration.
Environmental assessment of photovoltaic technologies
Production of electricity in solar cells enables a flowing energy resource, sunlight, to be brought into the technological system. Although only small adverse environmental effects result from the operation of solar cells, production and sometimes disposal have more environmental impact. The impact is described for a number of types of solar cells, in various applications, and the technology is evaluated from an environmental point of view, as compared with power production fom fossil fuels and nuclear power. A life-cycle perspective is adopted, although the study is not a quantitative life-cycle assessment. Crystalline silicon (c-Si) and amorphous silicon (a-Si) cells, copper-indium-diselenide (CIS) and cadmiumtelluride (CdTe) cells, are considered. c-Si cells require considerable amounts of energy during production. Both CIS and CdTe cells contain cadmium, but CIS to a smaller extent. Indium is a very scarce resource. All the technologies except CdTe involve use of toxic and/or explosive gases during production. Solar cells are used in consumer products such as pocket calculators. The energy production in this application is marginal. They may consitute an environmental problem if they contain cadmium or are used in connection with cadmium containing batteries. Stand-alone systems often require batteries, which contain heavy metals. They may contribute to electricity generation to some extent. They may have a positive influence on aesthetic natural values through reducing the need for power transfer to single, remote power consumers. Large scale electricity production in grid-connected systems are possible in a longer time perspective, and thus the assessment has a larger degree of uncertainty. The systems could make a large contribution to electricity production. However, over a certain production capacity, this requires energy storage, e.g. in water reservoirs or as hydrogen. Large scale electricity production in solar cells is assessed, from an environmental point of view, to be a better alternative than nuclear or fossil fuel based power generation.
Environmental Impacts from the System of Solar Energy
Lecture Notes in Electrical Engineering, 2020
Substantial fossil fuels are utilized by more or less every human on the earth directly or indirectly. This is often the cause for a few undesired phenomena along with atmospheric and environmental pollution, that have not been sensed before in recognized human history. Therefore, worldwide warming, climate change, effect of greenhouse, reduction of ozone layer, and terms of acid rain have commenced to looked inside the literature frequently. Since 1970, it is been known accurately with the aid of researches and experiments that those phenomena are closely associated with conventional sources of energy causes of hazardous gases such as dioxide of carbon (CO 2), mono-oxide of carbon (CO), inhalation general anesthetic gas (N 2 O), and methane (CH 4). The ozone (O 3) layer which blocks sun's ultraviolet radiation is going to be depleted by these generated toxic gases, and so, troposphere of the planet turning hot day by day. To avoid similar effects of these occurrences, there are two options which are both to enhance the fossil-based fuel (Hydrocarbons) standard with minimizing in their dangerous emission into the environment or, greater scientifically, to fossil fuel interchange usage maximum expediency with environment benefit, i.e., energy sources which is renewable and clean. Among in these sources of energy get from solar is at topmost, because of its much and more even distribution in nature than other renewable energy available of this kind like hydro, wind, tidal, wave and geothermal [7].
