Prior to the advent of molecular work, the observable variation in vegetative reproduction has been used to classify Lejeunea into subgenera and sections. Thereby, the ability of developing caducous leaves was regarded as major factor. A reexamination of several Lejeunea specimens revealed that L. cocoes with caducous leaves shows considerable morphological differences with non-caducous leaved plants of L. cocoes. Phylogenetic analyses based on a three-marker dataset (rbcL, trnLF and the nuclear ribosomal ITS region) indicated two independent and robust lineages of the morpho-species L. cocoes. We consider both clades as two distinct species and therefore describe the new species, L. malaysiana for L. cocoes morpho-species with caducous leaves. Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophyta) of Sicike-cike Natural Park, North Sumatra Indonesia
Lejeuneaceae (Marchantiophyta) is still poorly known in Sumatra. This research was conducted to explore the diversity of Lejeuneaceae in Sicike-cike Natural Park, North Sumatra, Indonesia. The species of Lejeuneaceae was observed based on the specimens collected along trails in the study site. The study reveals the occurence of 29 species, which are: Acrolejeunea (1 species), Cheilolejeunea (5 species), Cololejeunea (2 species), Colura (1 species), Drepanolejeunea (6 species), Lejeunea (6 species), Leptolejeunea (1 species), Lopholejeunea (4 species), Metalejeunea (1 species), Thysananthus (2 species). Eight species of these are newly reported for Sumatra. Those are Cololejeunea stephanii, Drepanolejeunea levicornua, D. ternatensis, D. thwaitesiana, D. tricornua, Lejeunea obscura, Leptolejeunea foliicola, and Lopholejeunea herzogiana. An identification key to the species of Lejeuneaceae from Sicike-cike Natural Park North Sumatra is provided.
New And Neglected Morphological Features in the Taxonomy of Asian Lejeunea (Marchantiophyta)

The infrageneric classification of the large genus Lejeunea Lib. is poorly understood due to the lack of stable morphological characters characterizing supraspecific groups. Phenetic analysis of 26 morphological features of 31 Asian Lejeunea species separated two main species clusters based on the number of superior central cells at underleaf bases. The number of superior central cells had not previously been utilized in the classification of Lejeunea and appears to be new and stable morphological feature within this genus. The presence of surface wax was confirmed in L. flava (Sw.) Nees and was newly recorded in L. mimula Hürl. and L. tuberculosa Steph. We suggest that wax ornamentation may be a useful taxonomic feature at species level in Lejeunea.

Drepanolejeunea pleiodictya Herzog (Lejeuneaceae), a rare and poorly known species from Java and Malaysia, was newly discovered in tropical montane forest in southern Thailand. It is distinguished by the ventral margin of the leaf lobe being usually irregularly dentate with one large tooth, the apex of the lobule having a straight or slightly curved tooth, ocelli 3−4(−5) seriate in the leaf lobe separated by 2−5 ordinary leaf cells, and gynoecia usually with a single pycnolejeuneoid innovation. This species is described and illustrated in detail, and its diagnostic characters and geographical distribution are briefly discussed.

A new terrestrial species of Colura (Dumort.) Dumort., from high elevations in the northern tropical Andes is described. The species differs from other members of the genus in the section Oidocorys Jovet-Ast ex Grolle on its unique oversized lobule and reduced lobe, and the smooth surface of the leaf cells. An identification key is provided for northern South America. Colura stotleri sp. nov., described here, is found at a single mountain top at 4700 m a.s.l. on peaty soil, with a lack of suitable habitats at higher elevations highlighting the threats posed by climate change on the conservation of mountain flora. RÉSUMÉ Une nouvelle espèce terricole de Colura (Marchantiophyta: Lejeuneaceae) des hautes altitudes tropicales (Boyaca, Colombie). Une nouvelle espèce terricole de Colura (Dumort.) Dumort., récoltée dans les hauteurs du nord des Andes tropicales, est décrite. L'espèce diffère des autres membres de la section Oidocorys du genre Colura par son lobule unique et très grand et son lobe réduit, et par la surface lisse des cellules foliaires. Une clé d'identification des espèces de la section Oidocorys Jovet-Ast ex Grolle du nord de l'Amérique du Sud est donnée. Colura stotleri sp. nov., décrite ici, a été trouvée en un seul endroit à 4700 m d'altitude, sur sol tourbeux, avec une absence d'habitat propice aux hautes altitude mettant en évidence les menaces posées par le changement climatique sur la conservation de la flore de montagne.

We analyze the geographical and elevational ranges and the habitats of 30 species and two varieties of Lejeunea Lib. recorded from Malaysia. The greatest diversity of Lejeunea in Malaysia is found on Mt. Kinabalu with 27 species. The majority of the species are Malesian in distribution with a high number (8) belonging to the West Malesian element. Widely distributed species are often autoicous and produce spores freely; those with narrow distributions are more often dioicous and rarely produce spores. Dispersal of dioicous species seems to be promoted by asexual reproduction, being more common in wide-ranging dioicous species than in narrow-ranging ones. Endemism is 10% with three species being known only from Mt. Kinabalu. Range sizes of species decrease towards higher elevation and endemic species occur exclusively in the mountains. About half of the species occur in the lower montane rainforest belt, which is the elevational zone with the highest diversity of Lejeunea in Malaysia...

During the biodiversity research of Fiji Islands Matt A.M Renner has collected a Cololejeunea species related to Cololejeunea filidens Benedix, widespread in the Indomalesian region, but well differs by its short, unicellular second lobular tooth and by its thin cell walls without trigones and intermediate thickenings. It is described as Cololejeunea renneri Pócs. With this the number of Cololejeunea species known from Fiji Islands raised to 43. The new species might be more widespread in the Indomalesian-Pacific region, just confused before with Cololejeunea filidens.
