The Nursing Practice Environment and Patients’ Satisfaction with Nursing Care in a Hospital Context
Healthcare
Nursing, being a profession in health, aims to improve the quality of the response to patients’ demands, which have repercussions on the attitudes, behaviors and performance of nurses. Background. The aim of the study was to evaluate the relationships among the nursing practice environment, nurse–patient interactions and patients’ satisfaction with nursing care in a hospital context. Methods. The study applied a descriptive analysis. Based on the initial exploration of the data, we decided to perform a simple linear regression of the dimensions of the scales. Results. The latent variables and interactions between the different dimensions of the three constructs (the nursing practice environment (PES-NWI), nurse–patient interactions (NPIS-22-PT) and patients’ satisfaction in the hospital context (SAPSNC-18)) were submitted to confirmatory analysis. The model was statistically significant, with a good fit with the data (χ2/gl = 128.6/41 (0.000); GFI = 0.900; AGFI = 0.831; TLI = 0.910;...
Background and Objective: Patient satisfaction with nursing care remains essential in explaining patients' perceptions of service quality. Accordingly, healthcare institutions need to check and be highly concerned about consumers' requests and evaluations periodically and continuously. The study aimed to measure the patients' experiences and satisfaction with nursing care who were admitted in the government hospitals in Erbil-Iraq, using the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale (NSNS). Method: A crosssectional descriptive study was conducted; the data were collected from 100 patients in the main hospitals in Erbil-Iraq (Rezgary, Maternity, and Hawler Teaching hospitals) on the day of the discharge or transfer to another ward by using the questionnaire of Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale (NSNS) which consists of 3 sections; experience scale, satisfaction scale, and patient's demographic information. The Experiences of Nursing Care Scale(Experience Scale) consists of 26 statements and the Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale (Satisfaction Scale) consists of 19 statements. Item scores for each scale are transformed and summed so that the two scale scores range from 0 to 100. An Experience Scale score of 100 signifies that the patient perceived that they experienced the best possible care, and a Satisfaction Scale score of 100 indicates that they were 100% satisfied with that care. Results: The correlations between variables were analyzed using the Kruskal-Wallis tests. A total of 100 patients participated in the study. The Experience of Nursing Care Scale and Satisfaction with Nursing Care Scale were highly significantly correlated (p <0.001). The average result on the 'experience' scale was 52.83 (Median 51.92), and on the 'satisfaction' scale was 53.10 (Median 50.00). The result indicated that there was statistically significant difference between mean rank of 'satisfaction with nursing care' scale with residence (p= 0.031), marital status (p=0.005), current duration of admission (p=0.005) and type of patient's room (p=0.001), while the mean rank of 'experience of nursing care' scale with age (p=0.371), gender (p=0.485), educational level (p=0.709), occupation (p=0.898) and previous admission (p=0.986) were not statistically significant. Conclusion: The overall mean NSNS score in Erbil governmental hospitals shows a moderate level of patient satisfaction with nursing care. Further studies are recommended to determine the factors behind the moderate scale of patient satisfaction with nursing care to improve the quality of health services.

Differences between patients' expectations and satisfaction with nursing care in a private hospital in Jordan A descriptive correlation study was conducted to describe the differences between patient expectations and satisfaction with nursing care, and to determine the relationships among patient's satisfaction with nursing care and selected sociodemographic variables. A convenience sample of 250 patients with different medical, surgical and gynaecologic diagnoses was recruited to participate in the study, which was carried out at a private hospital in Amman. Two research instruments and a sociodemographic data form were used for data collection: The Patient Expectations Questionnaire and Patient Satisfaction with Nursing Care Quality Questionnaire. The results indicated that patients were more satisfied with technical and ethical aspects of nursing care whereas they were less satisfied with nursing care during the night shift as well as with professional information provided by the nurses. The difference between patients' expectations and satisfaction was statistically significant. Patients' opinions regarding their expectations and their satisfaction with nursing care can be considered as an important opportunity for nurses to plan and implement appropriate strategies that improve the quality of nursing care.

A convenience sampling method was used to recruit 200 patients (100 males and 100 females) from medical and surgical wards. Patients aged ≥15 years, who were admitted to medical and surgical wards for ≥48 hours were included. A structured questionnaire designed by researchers was completed through direct interview. Chi-square test of association (or Fisher's exact test) was used to compare proportions. A P value of ≤0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Results: The study showed that 40.5% of patients were highly satisfied with the nursing services, only 20.9% of those with secondary education or higher were highly satisfied (P = 0.005), and 80% of those with high income were highly satisfied (P = 0.001). There was no significant association between patients' satisfaction and patients' age, marital status, occupation, residence, the length of stay, and type of ward. A relatively poor rate of satisfaction (20.5%) was observed regarding the information provided by nurses before the medical care or drug administration. Conclusions: Less educated patients were more satisfied with nursing services. The majority of patients were unsatisfied with the information provided by nurses before medical care or drug administration.

Background: Patient satisfaction is the important patient-centered outcome to measure; it can also act as the difference between patient perception and the actual perceived care. Objective: The study aimed at assessing patients' satisfaction with nursing care. Methods: The study subjects included the departments of internal medicine and surgery in the main tertiary hospitals in the Khartoum State, Sudan. A descriptive cross-sectional survey design is used. Additionally, a convenience sampling is used to select 300 patients who effectively participated in conducting the current study by using the Arabic version of the Newcastle Satisfaction with Nursing Scale. Results: The study showed a moderate to high level of satisfaction in nursing care. It is also presented that there was significant correlation with gender, and educational level. In contrast the study showed no correlation with age, and the place of admissions. Conclusion: Knowing the perceptions and views of the beneficiaries is the mirror through which we stand on the quality of the service we provide and discover the places of weaknesses and shortcomings in them. Such knowledge will enable us to fix them via continuous training and development programs in order to maintain the service at its highest levels.
