Technology : The Positive And Negative Effects On Student Achievement (original) (raw)

Technology enhances classroom control and improves students' performance

§ Education without proper assessment and gap-filling process is futile. § § Sharing your knowledge without understanding your audience is not effective. § § Concept sharing without dynamic, engaging and multiple representations is not everlasting. § Education today has changed its shape – it has oriented itself with multi facet aspect and technology. Explanation involves multi-dimensions: Text, pictures, video, field, animation, technology, and repetition. Pupils are from different culture & background and educators have to understand them and their understanding level before speaking on the first few bits of curriculum. Concept teaching and deliberation should have exploration suitable to everyone. And then there has to be a proper a quick assessment followed by remedial system in place. All this revolves around two critical people: Educator and student. Both are under tremendous pressure to achieve excellence. Use a UNIQUE bundle of technology offsetting the pain area and supplementing education. Won't it be interesting to enquire which quadrilateral shape would cover the maximum area when perimeter is constant, taking a check on prerequisite knowledge, dynamic exploration and then quick assessment one by one, and to close it with remedial note, if any. Wouldn't it be nice to correlate a*sin(b*x+c) graph with sound wave and differentiate frequency/magnitude (prerequisite knowledge!) and many more. We may start off with a quick quiz (using technology) to understand prerequisite knowledge on quadrilateral and perimeter and then dynamic representation to explore/research and to conclude with the result. Then a quick re check on students be done using technology to understand the comprehension and quick fix, if required an where. With the use of technology, let us analyze the following: 1. What is the magnitude of the effects of technology on schooling outcomes concerning mathematics education? 2. How does the magnitude of the effects of technology fluctuate in response to various study features (e.g., gender, age, race) and design features (e.g., randomization, sample size, instruments)? My conclusions touch on the need for a well integration on technology, for effective strategies to stimulate deep learning, for goal-directed assessments, for addressing the needs of a would-be mathematically literate The evolution of students' understanding after having gone through this kind of procedure is unmatchable. Hands-on experiment time – 10 mint

The Effects of Technology Towards Pupils Academic Performance

Technology brought the easiest way to do such things and even updating us with the things going on around the world. This even creates conflict and bullying not only in adult but even with children in school by posting some sensitive videos or even pictures which may result in breaking ones integrity. These happens because with technology, the world is getting smaller now. People get to know each other over the internet. Some goes viral not for the good things but some with the bullies they get from other people. Some may hate it but who cares if others do love it anyway. With the arrival of the information age, information technology becomes more widespread and integrated into more aspects of our life(Liu Jie, 2008). Everything is terribly fast and in an twinkling of an eye everything changes. So life is bearable and become as easy as it is. The modern world take us to some activities which we may neither like nor dislike. Technology doesn't limit its use to higher class people because even the least of the community tries to find a way just to connect with the world and can probably know the details of some things happening around the world. With the presence of internet, citizens take it as an advantage in finding government information even communicating with elected leaders and even participating in some campaign activities (VanFossen, 2006) through this, we may be able to access what we need to know from the latest governance. Adults were not the ones who finds technology very entertaining, in so much that kids love it far better with the online application the internet could offer. Sometimes they choose to stay late outside and play in play stations until they feel tired, they doesn't even care if they're hungry. All they wanted is to reach the level they need to compete with other players. Problem arises when the pupils get so attach with the online games. Studies have shown that an increase in virtual interaction decreases the amount of face-to-face interaction between people and this in turn may lead to social isolation and depression. While no causal relationship between internet use and depression has yet been ascertained, there is an

Effects of Technology on Mathematics Education in Middle School

The Eagle Feather, 2006

The literature suggests a strong positive correlation between the success of students using technology in an effective manner and improvement in standardized test scores. The benefits of using technology to teach math will improve student skills not only in math but in using technology as well. Unfortunately, there are three major barriers that impede progress in implementing this wonderful idea: cost, training, and technology failure. Teachers, are skeptical, and rightly so about how much progress can be made when continual updates and installations are constantly putting the technological movement on hold. This paper analyzes how these concepts, ideas, and problems have been discussed in the past in order to form a solid platform that will support technology in schools in the future. It will also discuss the suggestive findings of the project and how research on this topic could be improved.

Assessment of the Contributions and Psychological Damages of Technology to the Education at Schools by the Individuals in These Schools

2018

The technology and innovations that it has provided have begun to show their effect on education too as in all other fields of life. Benefiting from the technological innovations in the field of education in developing world will increase students’ compliance to the changing life conditions. Besides that, individuals who have learnt to use technology accurately and productively during their education period will have a set of differences from other individuals in their future life thanks to technology, information and the skills that they will bring in. In this context, this research has been conducted to understand the opinions of administrators, teachers, and parents for the use of technology and to see how much the use of technology is integrated into the system in schools.

The impact of employing technology in teaching a mathematics course

International Journal of Innovation and Learning, 2010

This paper investigates the effect of employing technology in enhancing the learning outcomes of an introductory mathematics course. The students of the course were divided into two sections: the experimental section and the control section. The two sections were taught the material of the course using the traditional face-to-face method. However, the students in the experimental section had the advantage to practise on the concepts of the course using a software application. The performance of the students in both sections was compared and the results showed that the students in the experimental section outperformed their counterparts in the control section.

IMPACT OF TECHNOLOGY ON TEACHING AND LEARNING

2018

In the early years of human civilization education was once acquired one-on-one basis, which requires direct interaction between the teacher and the student, and requires a lot of effort from the student to acquire a small amount of information and henceforth be informed with a little impact. Additionally, during that time there were no enough aiding materials to help in acquiring knowledge like the ones available today. The afore-mentioned reasons make it very hard for individuals to acquire enough knowledge that will facilitate their contribution to the advancement of their societies and the humanity in general. Gradually through the years it started getting easier to assimilate knowledge and as a result formal schools were established, which paves the ground for today's modern educational system. Today, emergence of new technologies is trying to reshape the way education was long been acquired through the centuries and understanding the ways technology has helped with education and the actual impact it made on education will help us see how crucial technology has become in the modern world education. These new and emerging technologies challenge the long-established practice of teaching and learning, and the way education is managed. To fully understand the impact of technology on education we need to look at it from the perspectives of both teachers and students. Aim of the study: The aim of the study is to state the evolving technologies used in education today and their impacts. Methodology: The technique used in this study is analysis of secondary data from related research works and findings from the analyzed data. Findings: The finding of this work is that technology inevitably has a huge impact on the way knowledge is being transferred today, and if the right methodologies are employed a lot can be achieved.

The effect of using technology in teaching and learning mathematics on student’s mathematics performance: The mediation effect of students’ mathematics interest

Journal of mathematics and science teacher, 2024

The current study aimed to determine the impact of using technology in mathematics teaching and learning on the mathematics performance of students as mediated by students' interest in mathematics. Simple random sampling techniques were used to sample 216 students from the three selected SHS in Kumasi, Ghana. A structured questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection since the study is purely quantitative. Amos (ver. 23) was used to analyze the structural paths of the study. The results from the analysis reveal that the impact of technology on mathematics performance was positive and significant, and the impact of mathematics interest on mathematics performance was positive and significant. Also, the impact of technology on mathematics interest was positive and significant. Finally, the connection between employing technology in mathematics teaching and learning and students' performance in mathematics is somewhat mediated by students' interest in mathematics, and this relationship is statistically significant. The Ghana Education Service and the Ministry of Education were further advised by the study to incorporate technology into mathematics instruction and learning to boost senior high school students' interest and performance in the subject.

An Overview of the Effects of Technology on Education: Teaching and Learning

SSRN Electronic Journal

This study seeks to understand the effects of technology on education: teaching and learning. All the data used in this study comes from secondary sources. Information was gathered from several sources, including peer-reviewed journal papers, published and unpublished dissertations, online and print textbooks, and encyclopaedias. Findings: Evidence on the effects of technology is contradictory, according to a review of the relevant literature. Thanks to information technology developments, classroom collaboration between teachers and students is more efficient than ever. It broadens their academic and intellectual horizons, making students more versatile in the classroom. Due to the internet's accessibility, remote learning may now be supported by technological means. Students can use search engines to conduct research. Hardware failures, software incompatibilities between home and school, or non-existent internet connections, and outdated program versions are just some of the dependability problems that students and teachers face in the classroom. Because of developments in technology like graphical calculators, high-tech gadgets, and small cameras, dishonest students may now easily gain an edge over their
