The Social Media Habits of Abant Izzet Baysal University Students; A Case Study of Gerede Campus
In recent years, developments in internet technology and especially starting to use the internet in daily life as mobile, has led to the emergence of a new communication media. This communication media is combined under the name of social media in general. Social media is an interactive environment that people can share information, opinion, appreciation or what they want in any time. So especially young people give attention to social media very much. Because of this reason, in this study, it has been investigating universty students' usage habits and usage aims of social media. For this, it has been applied a survey to students who are scholar at Abant İzzet Baysal University, Gerede Campus. The results of the survey have been analyzed SPSS software. At the end of the study, it has been concluded that undergraduate students use social media very intensely. And it has been concluded that the usage habits of students affect their usage aims of social media.
Students’ Social Media Usage as a New Communication Environment: The Case of Pamukkale University

This study investigates the university students’ social media usage as a new communication environment. Students from Pamukkale University enrolled the study and provided the quantitative data of the study. A survey entitled “Social Networking Sites Usage Scale” was purposely developed for the study including the factors (1) connectedness (2) purpose (3) comfort (4) media freedom and (5) enjoyment. The results revealed that the students are highly active in using social media as a communication and enjoyment tool to “stay connected” with others in their community and to redound their visibility on social media. It is found that more than half of the students communicate each other via SNSs compared to face to face or communication via phone. SNSs are regarded as the main communication tools by the students. Most of the students use at least one social media platform for more than 4 years. During the day more than 80 percent of the students frequently check their social media accounts, messaging services and online SNS platforms. Mobile devices are seen as a must in communicating via SNSs. Almost 9 over 10 people use mobile devices regularly to use SNSs. Gender difference is a predictor on the use of social media platforms.
Use Of Social Networking Site By Students Of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic
The study investigates the use of social networking sites by students of Hassan Usman Katsina Polytechnic.A descriptive survey and simple random sampling technique were used to select the respondents from the Department of Library and Information Science and Mass Communication in the College of Arts and Liberal Studies. A structured questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection and Microsoft Excel Application was used as a tool in analyzing the data. The findings of the study reveal that the students are familiar with conventional social media networking sites such as WhatsApp, Facebook, Twitter, and have little familiarity with academic social networking sites like google scholar and Researchgate. the students use social networking sites daily to keep in touch with friends and family members, share pictures, videos, and share information for academic activities. It was discovered that the majority of the students spend two hours and above surfing on the sites. The students have positive as well as negative perceptions of the use of the social network. The major problems encountered in the use of social networking sites are time-consuming and a high cost of internet subscriptions. The study recommends that the management of the institutions and the library should organize training programs on the use of SNS to the students especially academic social networks where people share current research and discussion on various disciplines.

The goal of the present research is “To study for the introductory year students at Dammam University the Perceptions of the contribution of social networks to support and enhance teaching and learning processes”. The research has been conducted during the academic year 2014/2015 on a sample of (281) introductory year students at Dammam University who correctly responded to the research tool. The final research sample has been sorted according to gender: (97 male students representing 34% and 184 female students representing 66%). The results revealed that 91.6% of the student sample uses the social networks, 40.5% of which uses it to communicate with relatives and friends, 7.6% to exchange views and ideas with others and to discover other cultures while 9.5% are using it for leisure and entertainment, while only 2.2% of the sample under study uses it, for the time being, as educative assistance. The internet technology of social media has clearly impact on academic performance. The purpose this study is to identify the practices of student's social media usage and its perceived challenges on academic performance at Wolaita Sodo University. The case study design and a qualitative explanatory research approach were employed. The availability samplings technique was used in the selection of the samples of the study. Twenty seven (27) participants (18 males and 9 females) for interview and nine (9) participants (5 males and 4 females) for FGD; total of thirty six (36) participants were included in this study. In-depth interview was used as an instrument. The data was analyzed by using thematic analysis method. The findings indicated that all of students were engaged with social media by accessing Wi-Fi, mobile data and Internet café. Majority of students use social media unmanageably and they spend long time on social media that is more than 3 hours per day. Majority of participants suggested that students should not use social media more than two hours per day. Reports of participants indicated that majority of students are not using social media for their academic purpose but they are using social media to watch movies, share/like comments, and to chat with friends. Majority of participants addressed that social media is not much more supported students learning because it disturbs them to focus on academic activity rather chatting with virtual friends. The reports participants portrayed that university students' are exposed to many challenges because of social media usage, like account hacking; watching pornography, education problem; unintentional loss of their priority to do academic endeavor and not focusing on academic activities. Based on the findings students are suggested to use social media for academic purpose and should be self-disciplined in usage of social media by minimizing the time spending on it to focus on their education.

Social media acts as a recruitment agency for many startups and small companies.
