A Comparative Study on Social Media Addiction of High School and University Students

Considering that social media addiction is probably the most recent type of technology addiction, the present study was designed based on the six components suggested by Griffiths (2013). Toward the main purpose of the study, the "Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale" was adapted to social media addiction and translated into Turkish. After the validation process, it was administered to a total of 700 students; of them 397 were high school students and 303 were university students. The data collection instrument included 18 five-point Likert-type items in six categories, along with 5 structured items regarding demographics of the respondents. In addition to the original findings of the present study, similar research on social media addiction in some other countries were examined for comparisons. The results showed that both university students and high school students have a moderate level of addiction to social media. Being a university or high school student does not make any difference on the level of social media addiction. However, significant differences were found regarding gender, duration of use, department at the university, and type of high school. Finally, the results of the study show certain similarities and a few differences with the results of the studies conducted in other countries.

The purpose of the present investigation was to find out a comparative study of social media among college students in District Meerut. The sample of the study was collected, college students. Total students were from 140 students 70 were boys and 70 were girls, 35 boys and 35 girls from Meerut College and 35 boys, and 35 girls from N.A.S colleges in Meerut city. For measuring social media addiction among students, the social media addiction scale students form (SMA-SF) was used. It was constructed and standardized by Cengiz Sahin. Since our objectives are to find out the significant difference between college students & gender so according we select analysis of variance (ANOVA) and t-test the results obtained by ANOVA showed that there was a significant girls & boys on social media.

Social media addiction among high school students

In this hi-tech, screen-filled modern world, students are not using social media sites only at home on a computer; they are also using these sites via their cell phones. Hence, the study aims to measure the prevalence of Social Media Addiction in 231 High School Students (102 males and 129 females) in Tirupur and Namakkal Districts, Tamil Nadu, India. It is found that Social Media Addiction is moderate in Majority (52%) of the overall sample. Low Social Media Addiction is seen in 40% of the sample. Gender, type of school and type of family have not significantly influenced social media addiction. Majority of the sample use social media for 1 or 2 hours per day and 24% of the sample spend more than 2 hours daily. Majority of the students (52%) use their mobiles for sending messages to their friends and relatives. 33% of the sample use it for accessing social media. 35% of the sample use Facebook as the common social media platform. It is clear that the samples have reported to use social media sites frequently and for more hours in a day.

Relation between Social Networking Addiction and Attitude towards the Use of Mobile Phones

Social networking site and application provides the opportunities for the new generation of people offering better communication and activities without taking into account place and time. Therefore, people spend lots of time with their mobile phone and social networking sites and applications at same time. The college level students are using mobiles and social networking sites and applications maximum time and they are distracted from education for their addiction in social networking sites as well as mobile phones uses.In this paper it was an attempt to seek the relation between the social networking addiction and the attitude towards the use of mobile phone of the students of the college level. The investigation was carried on through a survey method for collecting data by using two standardized test namely, Social Networking Addiction Scale and the Scale for Attitude towards the use of Mobile phone. The result showed a positive correlation between social networking addiction and the attitude towards the use of mobile phone according to gender, religion, community and different department or subject stream of the college level students.

The research of the level of social media addiction of university students

Nowadays, social media has become an indispensable part of our daily lives. Although there are many useful applications of social media, the excessive use of this medium led to live personal, social and occupational problems. With these problems, it began to lead social media addiction which describes as a new kind of addiction. ın this regard, the survey will be applied 350 students who study at communication faculty of ınonu university through social media selected via simple random sampling online via social media to measure social media addiction. ADDICTION TO SOCIAL NETWORKING SITES AMONG TEENAGERS IN INDIA : A SURVEY

Social networking over internet has reached an surprising increase during the last 10 years due to more and more teenagers joining it. Young adults and teenagers prefer to use social networking sites. It is conclusion of several research studies based on social networking sites that teenagers have become addicted to these type of sites. This research has been conducted among teenagers. Structured questionnaire has been used for this research. This survey will be useful to focus light on extreme use of social networking sites among teenagers. Questionnaire which is used in this research paper, is used to measure addiction of social networking sites among teenagers and helps in the study of background. It finds out whether youngsters are using their time for meaningful work or not. It is very important that teenagers should use their time for their development. Wrong use of social networking sites is harmful for teenagers. It is also harmful for society. Government should pay attention towards these issues and should take corrective action. It is a related to common people of society.

Burden of Facebook addiction among the students of a health university in Eastern India

Background: In recent times, people are using a number of social sites to stay in touch with each other. Out of them, Facebook is one of the most popular sites. However, the students are using these sites too much which create an addiction in them. Aim: The present study aims to determine the burden of Facebook addiction among the students. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted among the Bachelor in Medicine and Bachelor in Surgery (MBBS), Bachelor in Dental Sciences (BDS), and Nursing students of a health university in Eastern India which included 399 students. Results: It is found that 7.2% of MBBS students, 8.5% of BDS students, and 5.1% of Nursing students are addicted to it and many others are at high risk. Conclusion: Excessive use of the social sites produces a definite addiction among the students as well as it affects their academic activity and personality badly.

Social Networking Sites Habits and Addiction Among Adolescents in Klang Valley

Social networking sites (SNS) is a very popular application in today's world society. SNS, to certain extent has change the way people communicate with each other. This kind of technology has become a trend among the users regardless the impact of the technology to the users either positive or negative. The level of SNS usage among the adolescents has started to raise concern among the parents and also the society. SNS addictions are becoming problematic in certain countries especially in United States and lately this issue has started to spread all over the world. Malaysia is also one of the country affected with SNS addiction. SNS addiction is not an isolated phenomenon as it is started from high engagement on the SNS usage and it originates from habitual behavior. Therefore, it is important to seek and understand habit and addiction of SNS among adolescents in Malaysia. The purpose of this study is to analyze and explore the usage of SNS among the adolescents in Malaysia, specifically in Klang Valley. It examines the SNS usage behavioral, which is habit and addiction. The data was collected from a sample of 60 respondents using an online survey. The data were analyzed using SPSS for descriptive analysis. From the analysis, it was found that most of the adolescents used SNS in daily basis and majority of them use it for more than two hours per day. Patterns on habits and addiction on the SNS usage shows that some adolescents experienced certain habit and addiction behavior.

Addiction to Social Media among Students at Jazan University

Addiction to social networking sites (SNSs) is becoming an increasingly prevalent. The impact of SNSs among students is of particular concern. The main aim of this study is to ascertain the rate of social media addiction among students at Jazan University and to observe its various effects. In February 2016, a structured, Arabic, self-reporting survey was administered to Applied Health Sciences students at Jazan University. Data were analysed using IBM SPSS 16 using frequency count and simple percentages. The study finds that social media addiction is highly prevalent at the university across students. The result revealed that's students should learn how to minimize their time on social networking to improve and promote learning their activities.

MEASURING SOCIAL MEDIA ADDICTION AMONG UNIVERSITY STUDENTS

New developments in technology have changed the habits of people and people can find the things of real life in virtual worlds. Interacting in online platforms and sharing options of social media have made the life of students more easy while Social Media Addiction(SMA) becomes a problem among young people, causing to mental and physical problems in long run by using it in an excessive manner. The aim of this study is to determine the usage purposes of social media and SMA level among university students according to age, gender, usage years and daily usage. For that aim, 665 students were surveyed in an online platform at Bingöl University in 2019. Descriptive statistics, Kruskal Wallis Test, One-Way ANOVA test, Factor Analysis and Correlation Analysis statistical methods are used to analyze and validate data by SPSS 20 software. Instagram, youtube and facebook were found to be three mostly used social media networks respectively. Maintaining communication with existing friends, listening music and sharing things are main usage purposes for females while males prefer social media for following a group, playing games and meeting new people. According to gender, there are significant differences just for conflict factor that males spend more time on social media than doing their daily responsibilities and activities, showing that males are more addictive. Moreover, younger university students have higher conflict addiction score and as students use social media more in years and daily, they become more addictive in general. Students spend daily most of their social media time for communicating with existing friends and chatting. Daily usage has the strongest correlation with occupation factor. Furthermore, the strongest correlation is seen between relapse and conflict factors and the most effective factor on Social Media Addiction Scale (SMAS) was found to be conflict factor.
