Introduction to Women, Gender, and Sexuality (original) (raw)
This course is an introduction to key concepts and methods in women, gender, and sexuality (WGS) studies, including the fields of gender studies, feminist studies, and lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT)/queer studies. Students will examine historical movements, theoretical debates, and contemporary issues, especially as they pertain to the intersection of gender, race, class, sexuality, and other dimensions of social inequality. In addition to a mid-term and final exam, students will work in small groups to develop a consciousness-raising project that translates the insights of WGS theories into social action about a social issue or problem through consultation with community activists.
