Virtual laboratory applications in physics teaching

Canadian Journal of Physics, 2018

Existence of a wide variety of virtual laboratories leads to dilemmas among practitioners in terms of selection of such programs and adaptation of them to the subject matter in the pre-service and in-service teacher training processes. The aim of this study is to inform physics educators, teachers and pre-service teachers of the virtual labs used in teaching physics nowadays, as well as the scope, design and features of such software. So they used in teaching physics particularly from primary education to university level are introduced and compared, their superior and weak aspects are highlighted, and target audiences, design characteristics, scopes and details, experiment analyses levels, levels of proximity to reality, and user friendliness are presented considering the data obtained from the literature review carried out based on the content analysis method. Thus, this study is intended to contribute to utilization of the virtual physics labs by users with expected efficiency.

Physics virtual laboratory: an innovative media in 21st century learning

Journal of Physics: Conference Series, 2019

Despite Virtual Laboratory (VL) in 21st century Physics learning is commonly used, but its development which is appropriate with theories and concepts is still a lacking. VL is a media to explain abstract concepts and minimize misconceptions. If VL is applied in Physics instruction, a better understanding of Physics theories and concepts is needed. This development study aims to 1) map important components for creating Physics Virtual Laboratory (PVL), 2) create PVL innovation which is appropriate with theories and concepts of Physics, and 3) design the PVL sketch and animation. This study uses an instructional design of Morrison, Ross, and Kemp to create the PVL. Isobaric process in Thermodynamics is provided as the topic. The findings of the study are 1) PVL consists of some components, i.e. basic competence and indicator, video, experiment goals, virtual experiment, and problems, 2) Thermodynamics is applied for developing the PVL, and 3) the final sketch is designed using Corel ...

Making a virtual learning environment for non-assisted physics laboratory

The Physics laboratory is usually the main place where our students of engineering approach to the physical daily reality, from the technological and the scientific point of view, through experiments and motivating demonstrations. Thinking of those students that can not follow an established schedule of attendance to the classroom, an innovative educational material has been created, which is based on digital filming of the experiments that nowadays are carried out in our real Physics laboratory. The objective is to minimize the lack of acquisition of some abilities associated with the real experimentation, by means of the use of virtual experiments and by working others individual competences by a streaming video. The filming is accompanied by some tutorials that introduce the experiment and illustrate the associated theoretical concepts, together with some simulations. Evaluation and self-evaluation tests are also available to monitor the student’s learning. Anyone can find all th...

Development of a virtual laboratory on the internet as support for physics laboratory training

European Journal of Physics, 2002

A virtual physics laboratory is being developed in the Escuela Técnica Superior de Ingeniería Informática of the Universidad de Valladolid (UVA). This laboratory will be accessible via the internet, and its main aim is to provide support for the real physics laboratory. In this paper we describe the main steps taken to develop such a laboratory. This virtual laboratory is currently accessible from http://cawdor.fa2.etit.uva.es/laboratorio/index.html.

The Virtual Lab (Physics & Chemistry) for Malaysia's Secondary School

Virtual reality (VR) technology opens a vast opportunity to be applied in the field of education. This paper is based on a research that has been carried out upon the problems faced by students and teachers in the conventional science education. The "Virtual Physics Lab" and the "Virtual Chemistry Lab" propose a new method of assisting present teaching aids. The cost, materials, energy, and time issues are among the elements taken into consideration in this research. Elementary research methodologies, gathering information, prototype design and development and testing, information analysis and documentaries are the steps engaged to accomplishing the main research objectives. A 3D Game Engine is used as the tool to develop the prototype system.

EFFECTIVENESS OF VIRTUAL LABORATORY AS INNOVATIVE STRATEGY IN IMPROVING STUDENT'S LEARNING OUTCOMES IN PHYSICS THE PROBLEM AND ITS SETTING Background of the Study

People live in an era characterized by the quick development of technology. It has invaded the educational procedure and is providing us with many opportunities to develop and transformed the progress of education vastly. Technology is slowly taking place in teaching and learning process (Stickler et al, 2010). With the advancement of ICT, teaching and learning process provides interactive knowledge environment by using animations and simulations for abstract topic, where students become vigorous in their learning and provide opportunities for students to construct and understand difficult concepts more simply especially in science subjects. There is no doubt that today everyone intuitively believes that multi-media technology can be fruitfully used to ease the process of acquiring new experiences and skills and at the same time opens up numerous opportunities to experiment with new knowledge.

Virtual Learning Enviroment for Physics Instruction

2009

In this work the characteristics and educational applications of a virtual computer-assisted environment teaching related with the motion of projectiles subjected to the force of the air (http://rabfis15.uco.es/lvct/descargas/fisica/17/) is presented . This web portal has been designed as an interactive tutorial system including several modules (simulations, problem resolution, knowledge evaluation, etc.), it has been applied as a complementary teaching aid for the subject Physics in the first year of Engineering and it is aimed to improve the understanding of the influence of the friction forces which vary with the speed of the two-dimensional motions. The software presented has all the following features: integrative character, self-evaluation tests, personalized and active learning process, adaptability to teacher’s aims, versatility as a teaching tool, multimedia resources and simplicity. This study has been carried out with students of the Higher Technical College (in Spanish: ...

Virtual Laboratory and Its Effect on Student Learning Outcomes in Physics Education

International Journal of Advances in Social Sciences and Humanities

This study aims to determine the effect of using a virtual laboratory on student learning outcomes in Kirchhoff's law material at the physics education study program at HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar T.A. 2020/2021 by utilizing a virtual laboratory. This type of research is a true experiment with the research sample, namely the physics education study program group A as the experimental class and group B as the control class. The research instrument test was composed of 20 multiple-choice questions, the content validity was tested by a team of experts as validators as many as 2 people and student activity observation sheets. From the data analysis, the average post-test value for the experimental class was 78.46 with a standard deviation of 11.25 and the average post-test value for the control class was 66.50 with a standard deviation of 13.78. Normality and homogeneity tests at the level of =0.05 stated normal and homogeneous and one-party hypothesis testing t-stat > t-table...

The Usage of Virtual Laboratory on Grade 11 Students’ Learning Outcomes Toward Physics

2020

This studied investigated the usage of virtual laboratory (VL) on grade 11 students’ learning outcomes of fluid statics and dynamics toward physics. The research used quasi experiment with the design of static group comparison that aimed to determine; 1) the magnitude of students’ learning outcomes by VL; 2) the amount of students’ learning outcomes who are taught without VL; 3) significant difference to the students’ learning outcomes who are taught by VL and without using VL. The population in this study were all students of grade 11 of SMAN 21 Makassar in 2015/2016 Academic Year. The sample was selected randomly which selected as an experimental class was 11 science A and 11 science B as the control class. The instrument used was a physics learning outcome test for fluid statics and dynamics materials in multiple-choice form. The calculation of descriptive analysis and inferential result showed that the students’ learning outcomes are taught with VL is higher than the learners wh...
