A CRITIQUE ON KERALA'S DEVELOPMENT (original) (raw)

The research paper focus on the development of Kerala and will try to answer whether ‘Kerala is really developed? If so, on what parameters the development is measured? Kerala development model stood as a benchmark for development in India and even different countries as well. The state stood highest in Human development Index, life expectancy, sex ratio, good health care and attains rank 1 in literacy rate. When all over the world praise Kerala for its progress, on the other side the dark side of Kerala remains the same or may be getting worse day by day. The first section of this paper mainly discusses the so far development of Kerala and briefly explains how it achieved this position. The chapter also aims at explaining ‘what development means by’ from different economists perspectives. The second section deals with the reality of political and social conditions of Kerala, where it largely looks up on how the present society is functioning. The third section engages in a thorough discussion of Kerala’s current political model and the influence of religion in politics and education. If you don’t have the freedom to follow a democratic politics, if a woman does not have the freedom to come out of her limited space, if every students of the state faces a discrimination based on the labeled religion and the surname carrying in his/her name, if a person’s skills no longer matter and only his/her religion matters, if the politics began to divide the religion and caste, then how can we say the state is developed? The project thus aims at the study of current society of Kerala, where day by day, the Keralites are drowning in the dark conception of religion and politics.
