Suboptimal Control of a One-Dimensional Nonlinear Heat Equation Using POD and θ - D Techniques (original) (raw)

2008

Abstract

Abstract: A new technique is presented in this paper for the suboptimal control design of distributed parameter systems in general. This technique is used to synthesize the controller for a nonlinear heat diffusion problem. The method of proper orthogonal decomposition is used for model reduction of the distributed parameter systems. A suboptimal control is then designed using the recently emerging θ -D technique for lumped parameter systems. This control for the reduced order system is then mapped back to the distributed domain using the same basis functions, leading to distributed controls. Simulation results indicate that the method holds promise as a control design technique for nonlinear distributed parameter systems.
