Abstract

Course Description:This course will provide an orientation to the approach of examining social problems and the development of social welfare policies and programs to reduce their severity and extentusing a global perspective.This orientation will include an exploration of the components of a social problem, a history of the problem, how social problems are studied, and the social welfare movements and services which strive to resolve these problems. Emphasis will be placed on developing an understanding of theories and the way in which these theories form the foundation for research, service, and advocacy.The impact of social, cultural, demographic, and political changes associated with globalization will be addressed.
