The Lord's Prayer as the most known prayer among Christians generates many questions and even debates. In these days, prayer and especially the Lord's Prayer, has a strong tendency to navigate from rational activity to stereotypy. Many people use to pray without having a good understanding of what the Lord intended by those words included in his example of prayer. The custom of praying is vitally important for any believer but even more important is a good understanding of the principles of prayer inserted in the Lord's Prayer. In order to help the reader to be conscious of the importance of the words used in prayer, the author makes an exegetical exercise on Matthew 6:9-13 trying to find an answer to the most common issues related to the understanding, usage and meaning of the proposed prayer: how to hollow the name of the Lord, how to understand the coming the Kingdom, what is the meaning of our daily bread, who are one's debtors` or what is the meaning of the leading into temptation.

In this a In this article I argue against the almost universal understanding among modern commentators on the (so called) "Lord's Prayer" of what Jesus intended those to whom he gave the Prayer to pray to obtain should they utter its words (whatever they may have been) – i.e., that it was for the God of Israel to hasten the deliverance of (and insure protection against) certain momentous things that many Jews of Jesus' time (purportedly) believed were to be manifested at the dawn of an anticipated, world changing, "age to come". THE LORD’S PRAYER IN A WIDER SETTING: A NEW HEBREW RECONSTRUCTION

This contribution introduces a critical translingual approach to the Hebrew reconstruction of the Lord’s Prayer, based on the knowledge accumulated on the subject to date. The author attempts to demonstrate that, despite the established dominant usage of Aramaic in 1st-century Palestine, the text of the Prayer in Matthew reflects linguistic peculiarities of the broader setting of the Sermon on the Mount and the presumed Hebrew background of Mt. Besides, the paper uncovers the existence of the Hebrew and Aramaic diglossia in the New Testament, arguing that both languages were used, each in its own context.
