The Challenge to Prepare the Next Generation of Faculty
Improving graduate education, and specifically, strengthening the preparation process for future faculty, has become a significant issue in higher education, of importance to a wide-ranging group of stakeholders. In fact, the growing interest in graduate education and the preparation of the future professoriate has been evident over the past decade and a half in an array of conferences, institu- tional programs, initiatives by professional organizations, funded research, and print and Web material. A quick review of such recent literature, programs, and research shows that, clearly, there is a movement afoot to address the challenges of preparing the next generation of faculty. This volume provides a summary and synthesis of key infor- mation about this movement. Although there are valuable resources in the research literature and publications describing the activities of various associations, institutions, and organizations, there has been no comprehensive effort to bring those pie...

The author presents the outcomes of a survey which was conducted in Japan between September and November 1991 in co-operation with Takekazu Ehara, professor of Kyoto University, department of education. Ibero-american debates about beginning teachers and the teacher’s professional induction, 2023
This paper will address two educational experiences for the beginnings of university teaching implemented at the National University Arturo Jauretche (UNAJ), in Argentina. This HEI, created in 2011, quickly established itself as a massive university, as today it has approximately 30,000 students. This process, characterized by the incorporation of a considerable number of students, forced the hiring of a teaching staff that is currently around 1,500 teachers. This massiveness of the teaching staff meant that many of them did not have any experience as Higher Education teachers. In addition, after the first undergraduates have concluded the course in 2017, it was observed that some of them were hired as university teachers. Faced with this situation, the UNAJ decided to conduct two educational actions: one for teachers who were beginning their careers at the university, and another for advanced students who were assigned to the subjects as trainees. The main characteristics of both proposals, the contexts in which they have been conducted and the first evaluations around them will be developed in this paper.
