A Bibliometric Study on Growth of Research in an Indian Medical

IntroductionBibliometric statistics are used by institutions of higher education to evaluate the research quality and productivity of their faculty. With bibliometric indicators, such as gross totals of publications and citations and journal impact factors gives the consideration of tenure, promotion and reappointment decision at an individual level (Borgman & Furner 2002, Garfield 1983 part1, 2, Cronin & Atkins 2000, Epstein 2004, Maunder 2007). At the departmental, institutional, or national level, bibliometrics inform funding decisions (Borgman & Furner 2002, Murphy 1998, Lewison 1999), develop benchmarks (Borgman & Furner 2002, Noyons et al. 1999), and identify institutional strengths (Borgman & Furner 2002, Huang et al 2006, Schummer 2007), collaborative research (Borgman & Furner 2002, Garfield 1993), and emerging areas of research (Borgman & Furner 2002, Hinze 1994, Leydesdorff et al. 1994). The study is based on 781 citations appended to 43 research articles pertaining to January to June 2000 issues of volume 109 of Indian Journal of Medical Research. The authorship pattern of the citations shows that more than 15 per cent contributions are single-authored and about 85 per cent are the result of teamwork. The team size of this field is bigger than those in the fields of chemistry and physics. Single-authored articles amount to 15.52 per cent of the total citations and about 28 per cent resulted through the collaboration of five or more authors. Of the citations 88.73 per cent pertain to journal articles. Of the citing articles 38 contributed by Indian authors, 3 by foreign authors and 2 jointly by Indian and foreign authors. Of the total citations 9.48 per cent are author self-citations and 7.3 per cent are journal self-citations.

The main theme behind this attribute is to analyze the bibliographic data of the research published by journals/scholars in a specific area. A BIBLIOMETRIC STUDY OF INDIAN JOURNAL OF INFORMATION LIBRARY AND SOCIETY DURING 2012 – 2016
The papers present Bibliometric study of Journal of Information Library and society during 2012 to 2016. This study analysis the different aspect of the journal with statically such as- year wise Distribution of article, cumulative total of article, Authorship Pattern, State wise distribution of article, Page lengths of the article and Types of Cited Documents. It found that out of 141 articles.The maximum 35 (24.82%) articles Published in the year 2016 and the minimum 21 (14.89 %) articles Published in the year 2014. Also out of 233 contributors. 71(30.47%) Articles were contributed by single authors, 104(46.63%) contributions by two authors, 54(23.17%) contributions by three authors, and 04(1.7%) 24 contributions by four authors. the highest 252 (24.34%) Document cited in the year 2012 and lowest 108 (10.43%) Document cited in the year 2013.

Abstract Objective: To conduct a bibliometric analysis of the Original articles published in the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association. Methods: The study was conducted in Peshawar and comprised all Original articles published in the Journal of Pakistan Medical Association between 2009 and2013. The articles were downloaded from the Journal website and bibliometric parameters were analysed. Results: A total number of 913 Original articles were found in regular issues of the Journal, while leaving out six special supplements that were published during the period under study. The number of Original articles increased steadily from148(16.2%) in 2009 to 214(23.4%) in 2013, In yearly terms, Original articles published each year ranged between 148 and 214; 510(55.9%) had 21-30 citations; 3-author contributions ranked the highest with 206(22.6%); 481(52.7%) authors were geographically affiliated to Sindh, Pakistan; Community Medicine was the most popular medical specialty with was 140(15.3%) articles; 17340(90.5%) citations were from journals; and the most productive institution was Aga Khan University, Karachi. Conclusion: The number of papers published in Journal of Pakistan Medical Association per issue increased from 2009 to 2013 and the main region in terms of contribution was Sindh. An analysis of 801 papers published in the area of bibliometrics and scientometrics during 1995-2014 indicates a steep increase in the number of papers published by Indian researchers as compared to the number of papers published during 1970-1994. This indicates a growing interest of Indian scholars in scientometrics and bibliometrics. The paper provides several reasons for this steep increase. The main focus of research is on bibliometric assessment of India and other countries followed by cross national assessment and bibliometric analysis of individual journals. CSIR-NISTADS is the top producing institute contributing about one-third (31.4%) of the total output followed by the output of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre and CSIR-NISCAIR. The distribution of citation data indicates that about one-fifth (21.7%) papers remained uncited. The paper identifies journals in which these uncited papers were published. A Bibliometrics Profile of Gujarat University, Ahmedabad during 2004-2013

AbstrAct This study attempts to undertake bibliometric analysis of the research publications of Gujarat University during the ten-year period between 2004 and 2013. The data for this study was extracted from SCOPUS and included a total of 760 publications that were attributed to authors affiliated to Gujarat University. The publication data was analysed with respect to the type of publications where 83% are journal articles. The paper also analysed the publication trend of Gujarat University and found that from 2008 onwards there was a steady increase in the number of publications. The other aspects that were identified in the paper were the most prolific authors, collaborative authorship patterns and trends, most preferred publications, and so on. The collaboration was found to be the highest in the year 2012 at 0.70 based on the modified collaboration coefficient. Madras Medical College is the one of well-known premier medical institution, situated in Chennai. The data was collected using PubMed database during 1989-2018, there are 646 Publications were found. Analyzed for year wise growth shows 53(8.20%) Publications found during 1989-1993 and Highest 283(43.81%) Publication found during 2014-2018 Authorship pattern shows single author have contributed 35(5.42%), multi author have contributed 611 articles, the mean relative growth rate is 0.0835 and mean doubling time is 14.65. The author preferred Language for publication is found to be English, now a days peoples are facing various health problems the postgraduates and faculties should publish their research papers in a Indexed Journals to share their knowledge to the fellow researchers and the funding agencies should encourage the researcher to do their research on current trend on health and diseases.
This study highlights the research evaluation of bibliometric study of Indian Journal of cancer for the time frame of 2011-2013. The data was taken from the archives of the journal through online. This st udy highlights the evaluation of research carried out b y the oncologist doctors. The analysis covers on distribution of articles patterns, length of articl es, authorship patterns, and citation distribution. The study has helped in finding out the publication published during the past ten years. The findings shows that 103 articles were published and joint author contribution was 69 (%) and rest was the single author 56(8.96%).The mathematical formula was used to find the degree of collaboration of authorship in the Indian journal of cancer. The stu dy helps in finding out the strength and the weakness of the publication and necessary steps recommended for further development.
