Envisioning Our Posthuman Future: Art, Technology and Cyborgs
It has been said that in this technologically inundated era, we are all cyborgs. Such a radical redefinition of the human being is but one manifested example of how the category ‘human’ and its multifaceted sub-categories have undergone a long process of re-conceptualisation under postmodernism. This paper explores how the concept of ‘the posthuman’ allows for human kind to expand its abilities, its perception and its understanding of our world, as seen through the work of various artists articulating these ideas.
Grotesque Bodies: A Response to Disembodied Cyborgs

In this paper, my aim is to show some of the problems that the figure of the cyborg may raise, in order to show how in many cases the cyborg has been used, even if in a dissimulated way, to reinstate the ‘natural’, normative order with its known distinct and very well defined categories and divisions. But, more importantly, I propose here an alternative to the figure of the cyborg which, I believe, has more possibilities of ‘keeping the promises’ of subverting the normative order of Western thought. This alternative is the one presented by the figure of the grotesque body. The grotesque body, I will argue, contains in itself the seeds of a real hybrid, fragmented, non-binarian thought. The relevance of my proposal is that, in opposition to the cyborg, the grotesque body does not present the dangers of a reinforcement of the old categories which support the powers-that-be in maintaining oppression and domination. Unlike the cyborg, the grotesque body does not make possible a return to the Cartesian frame, with its clear danger of losing one more time the embodied subject (and losing with it the concrete, non-neutral subject), which the postmodern and feminist thought strived so hard to bring to the philosophical and political scene.

Outline of this MA thesis is presented in this chapter. In General Overview, a summary and brief review of discussion is given. The main discussion is discussed in the Statement of the Problem. The Research Questions include three fundamental questions regarding the main discussion of this thesis. In the next part, the 2 methodology presents how this thesis is done and which sources are used. The Review of Literature presents the other existent researches on the main discussion of this thesis. The Significance of Study finally expresses the aims and concerns of this research and in fact the importance of what is discussed in this thesis. Taken for granted, real space in fiction has its own espistemological, ontological, anthropological, and etiological components in its setting. Now, in Cyborgian Space all the aforementioned is metamorphosized. So, what are the characteristics of the Cyborgian Fiction through the focalization of the abovementioned paradigms? The root of all the aforementioned concepts is in postmodernism and posthumanism. In cyborgian world there are not any binary oppositions and dualisms in the literary, cultural, social and political dimensions and systems; therefore, all the borderlines are disturbed and transgressed dear dr. As a matter of fact that the cyborg is a creature of social reality or creature of fictional reality. The fictional character or subject is fragmented and partial because it is, in the one hand, partly human and partly or semi animal; on the other hand, it is partly human and partly technological machine. In fact, we do not have any essentialism and conceptualism of human nature, human subjectivity and human identity in the cyborgian world. In history and Western knowledge, the human fiction is epistemologized, metamorphosized, fabricated and theorized hybridity of human and organism due to the cyborgian, transgenetic theories because we were and are cyborgs. We are onthological and biopolitical in posthumanism. It gives us our politics and bioidentity. As a whole, the aim of cyborgian technology is to increase the capacity of human beings, and to make him more humanized; however, the condition of human identity and subjectivity is in transition unfortunately
From Oxford Handbook of Feminist Theory: http://www.oxfordhandbooks.com/view/10.1093/oxfordhb/9780199328581.001.0001/oxfordhb-9780199328581-e-7?rskey=8nHfs0&result=1 This chapter traces the emergence of the figure of the “cyborg” in feminist theory from the 1980s to the present, focusing specifically on how feminist engagements with this figure draw from and challenge broader discourses of the “posthuman.” The key questions that emerge from the scholarship on the intersections of the organic and the technological include the following: (1) a set of epistemological challenges to the foundational binaries of modernist thought, and thus a feminist method for examining the mutual imbrication of nature and culture, human and nonhuman, machinic and organic; (2) a set of explorations of the intersections of material and virtual manifestations of the body through the extension of communications and media technologies; and (3) the importance of the figure of the “cyborg” to feminist accounts of political agency and critical subjectivity. The cultural technologies of gender, race and empire drive much of the present Anthropocene crisis, now and in the past. Everyday algorithms reproduce and multiply our cultural biases on a global scale. Anthropocentrism, humanistic supremacy and individualistic territorialism are rampant, making us all less humane. Society awakes slowly from the modern illusion of categorical identities and divides that keep nature from culture, human from animal, environment from embodiment, technology from biology and arts from science and society. The argument here is for taking stock of ways of cyborg knowing-also beyond the academic confines. It is time for new knowledge integrations forged in intellectual generosity. The cyborg, as a discipline-crossing figure, proposed theorypractices and practice-theories for how to readjust our high consumption, high energy and hyper-instrumental society, and ourselves, adaptively. In this piece, I proposed that feminist STS and cyborg knowing work as a prominent entry into the transformative multiverse of feminist posthumanities in practice.A ARTICLE HISTORY
