Critical and Creative Thinking (original) (raw)
Different styles of argumentation require different methods of writing and proving claims. Academic argumentation requires the author to provide strong evidence to support their claim on any subject. In doing so the author has to find, understand and decide which evidence to use. Other forms of argumentation are toulmin, debate, Rogerian, satire and persuasive. In debate form of argumentation the author must take a stand if they are for and against the claim. They must also prepare strong arguments for counterclaims and need to finish the debate with a strong and impactful conclusion. In Toulmin argumentative essay the author needs to provide evidence to state their claim with the help of data and numerical statistics. In Rogerian argumentative essay, the author needs to find the strengths and weakness for the claim, for this argumentation the conclusion asks for a change or action. In persuasive essay, the author needs to persuade the readers for a change or new idea. In order to do so the author needs to present strong arguments and make impactful conclusion. In satire argumentative essay, the author takes up a claim and tries to make argument with the help of satire. For this reason the essay has an ironical tone underlying its arguments. One of the biggest issues that have been identified over time is the acceptance of humanities as a concept. Even though it is common knowledge that humanities forms the basis of most cultures. Humanities have however become one of the underrated issues in the new era or generation, where money, status and wealth is given more importance. Even though there are talks about how culturally aware the new generation is, it does not surpass the importance of making money. Nowadays it seems that education, art, religion and culture as well have taken a second seat when it comes to money. This has not only led to conflicts and debates but has also created disinterest and unrest among people.

Justifying the teaching of the humanities: A new economic approach
Policy Futures in Education , 2017
In recent years much has been written about the declining status of the humanities and the effect this has had on teaching and the curriculum. This article begins by examining some key defenses for teaching and studying the humanities that have been offered in the literature and points to their limitations. It is argued that in a policymaking environment dominated by economic thinking, the justifications for teaching the humanities that are based on identifying its intrinsic and social values are bound to have little appeal for policymakers. It is also maintained that the attempt to justify teaching the humanities based on their possible contribution to increasing production is unconvincing. The article then proposes a new defense for teaching the humanities that stems from recent developments in economic thinking and public policy-making. It is proposed that teaching the humanities can be defended on the basis of its potential contribution to altering consumption patterns and offering ways to convert wealth into happiness more effectively. The article does not suggest that the defense proposed here is the only or best way to defend the humanities, but rather that it can have an important instrumental value in persuading policymakers to invest more in teaching the humanities.

Humanities, 2020
There are available by now many arguments concerning the intrinsic and endemic value of the humanities, and both from a medievalist and a modernist perspective. Similarly, there continue to be many critics who would not mind the elimination of the humanities and argue vociferously for this goal. Every critical investigation of how to defend our field thus proves to be highly valuable, but we in the humanities must also develop specific points concerning the importance of our research that will convince both students, parents, administrators, and politicians in concrete, pragmatic terms regarding the supreme relevance of college education. Fortunately, the current COVID-19 crisis has also profiled in a dramatic fashion what proves to be of fundamental importance for human life, both past and present, reminding us of the critical importance of the humanities. An existence without virtues, a completely narcissistic or egoistical concept of life, or a society entirely predicated on materialistic interests would cut us off from our own future. This article discusses several literary works and also a modern movie in which the constant quest for meaning and relevance in our lives comes to the fore and gives us direction and understanding.
Language and Argumentation in the Controversy Economic
SSRN Electronic Journal, 2010
This article offers an approach to the general structure of the controversy in economy. In our case we adopted a perspective to study a particular aspect of the rhetoric that comes from the context of a particular controversy: the controversy on the advantages of the free commerce between Daly and Bhagwati. It is sustained that the positions in economy present with relative frequency interest conflicts that are revealed in the dialectic one of the arguments. A proponent in open defense of the free commerce is not released of presumptions reflected in the field of the rhetoric. Reason why to include the language dimensions of the argumentation in economy has advantages for the field of the explanation and the epistemology in the social sciences.

Introduction This paper is an attempt to bring light into relations between economic developments and the developments in the society. The key and fundamental hypotheses of the study is that economic problems of society can be resolved by institutional acting and cooperating with one another. In this way many problem in society can be eliminated. Economy is an essential element for participation of people in the society. First of all the participation of individuals in to economic system of any country needs opportunities, so that they can participate in the economic, political and social structures of the social order. Moreover there are some challenges that affects not only on the situation of the individuals but also the entire society. Therefore, it is appropriate to examine how to deal with these challenges. Furthermore having a different socio-cultural structure and background bring some problem of adaptation in any society. However it should not be considered as a reason for exclusion and discrimination. Such challenges of society should be processed, which shall base on the mutual interests and a respectable way of living and acting together. Undoubtedly the complications and problematic issues that arise in a society are wide variety. However, the economic and socio-cultural dimension of the problems can eliminate by applying respectable solutions, which based on the value and criteria of civilized human beings. Any integration model, which base on such perspective would bring more participation, appreciation and mutual long term benefits.
The Year's Work in Critical and Cultural Theory, 2015
This inaugural chapter on 'Economic Criticism' surveys books published (predominantly) in 2013 and 2014 that explore the relations between culture and economics. These relations have been growing preoccupations in critical and cultural theory over the past two decades, and especially since the global financial crisis of 2008. This chapter aims to provide an overview of the state of the field as it currently stands, and, in particular, to indicate how recent theoretical approaches have reassessed or moved beyond positions associated with the 'New Economic Criticism', which came to prominence in the 1990s. The chapter is divided into five sections: 1. Realism; 2. Discourse and Media; 3. Money; 4. Capital and Language; 5. Crisis. This is the first appearance of a chapter on 'Economic Criticism' in The Year's Work in Critical and Cultural Theory. Sharp-eyed readers will notice that it takes the place of previous chapters on 'Marxism and Cultural Materialism'. This change of title reflects not so much a replacement of one topic by another, however, as an expansion in scope. All of the works under discussion in this chapter are deeply engaged with Marxist theory (and some with the traditions of cultural materialism, too), but to align them only with that banner would be to misrepresent the diversity of approaches that they take to the relations between culture and economics. Those relations have attracted the attentions of growing numbers of critical and cultural theorists over the last two decades-all the more so in the wake of the global financial crisis of 2008-and this and future chapters aim to chart this exciting and rapidly developing field.
