Better health through therapeutic effects of yoga

The objective of this study is to assess the findings of selected articles regarding better health through therapeutic effects of yoga and to provide a comprehensive review of the benefits of regular yoga practice. As participation rates in mind-body fitness programs such as yoga continue to increase, it is important for health care professionals to be informed about the nature of yoga and the evidence of its many therapeutic effects. Thus, this manuscript provides information regarding the therapeutic effects of yoga as it has been studied in various populations concerning a multitude of different ailments and conditions. Therapeutic yoga is defined as the application of yoga postures and practice to the treatment of health conditions and involves instruction in yogic practices and teachings to prevent reduce or alleviate structural, physiological, emotional and spiritual pain, suffering or limitations. Results from this study show that yogic practices enhance muscular strength and body flexibility, promote and improve respiratory and cardiovascular function, promote recovery from and treatment of addiction, reduce stress, anxiety, depression, and chronic pain, improve sleep patterns, and enhance overall well-being and quality of life.

Yoga as a therapy: A perspective

The study aims at understanding the traditional view of health and disease with the help of Yoga VasiÀtha, Bhagavadg¢t¡,Paµca Ko¿a theory of Upani¿ad, as well as, of Pataµjali and Ha ¶ha Yoga and also discusses the Scientific basis of using Yoga as Therapy along with its therapeutical modalities. Article also deals with current situation of Yoga Therapy and emphasizes that there is a need to develop a integrated approach towards all forms of therapy wherein Yoga should be a part and parcel.

Yoga is the science which deals with every aspect of the human being. In modern times our old rich cultural heritage of ancient India has been revived with its therapeutic benefits and the term "Yoga Therapy" came into existence. Yoga therapy works on the development of overall health, prevention from the diseases, and rehabilitation or cure from the diseases. The aim of this study was to explore the concept of yoga as a therapy and its therapeutic benefits, also the benefit of yoga therapy in the COVID-19 pandemic. To identify the studies related to yoga therapy the data was searched systematically through Books, online search engines, and online databases on PubMed, Google Scholar, MEDLIN, PsycINFO. After screening, the studies which were very closely associated with the topic were included in this study and their references were used to write conclusion more effectively. Yoga therapy works on the root cause of the problem. Apart from giving relief from problems yoga enlightens the mind. When a person practices yoga regularly, yoga can make tremendous changes in a person's life. Yoga makes a healthy body and mind. With the proper and supervised practice of yoga, you can protect your body from various diseases. Research studies reflect that yoga therapy can be the best treatment for various physical and psychological problems.

Therapeutic Effectiveness of Yoga for Psychological Health and Well-being

Although widely popular, Yoga has remained underutilized as a therapy for treatment of multiple psychological problems, promoting positive health and well-being. Yoga is as effective as other therapies and sometimes much better than traditional psychological therapies in view of their cost effectiveness, holistic effect, acceptance and popularity among the public, and cultural and contextual sensitivity. Against this backdrop, this paper reviews therapeutic effectiveness of yogic practices on mental health and well-being. The background of yoga has its origin in ancient Indian philosophy. In contemporary society we can observe many schools or types of yoga. Each having its own specific emphasis regarding body postures, breathing techniques, relaxation technics, and meditation practices. That nurture awareness and state of consciousness. The application of yoga as a therapeutic means, take advantage of the number of psychological and physiological benefits. Yoga exercises may increase man flexibility, strength, coordination while the breading and meditation practices may silent the mind, hence evoke greater awareness and diminish anxiety, reduce distress, and thus enhance quality of life. Despite of growing body of clinical research on the therapeutic effects of yoga, there is still a lack of evidence regarding its clinical validity for number of symptoms and health conditions. In some research studies we can observe inconsistent evidence with some reporting positive effect of yoga interventions, but some are less conclusive. In our review we summarize the current evidence on the clinical effect of yoga intervention on various factors of physical and mental health.
