A Qualitative Examination of Information Systems (ISs) and Management in Organizations: An Integrative Literature (original) (raw)

Information Systems for The Management of Organizations (From Theory to Practice)

Information Systems for The Management of Organizations (From Theory to Practice), 2021

This chapter investigates the key concepts of information systems, as well as the role of information in information management activities, in terms of supporting decision-making by managers of different organisations in the literature of information sciences and business sciences. Information has become, in the global economy, a source of value for organizations, taking a key role in contributing to the development of its performance. The relationship of information management with business management helps in the decision-making process.

Benefits and Challenges of Technology and Information Systems on Performance

Journal of Applied Business and Technology

In this modern era, technology and information systems are very important in business. explore the relationship between technology, information systems, and organizational performance. The aim of this paper is to provide a better understanding of the role of information technology and systems in improving organizational performance and consider the challenges that may occur. The right methodology for analyzing the topic of technology, information system, and performance is to use a qualitative approach. Information technology and systems have become important components of organizational performance. These systems improve efficiency, communication, decision-making, innovation and more. However, they also present some challenges, including security risks, technical issues, costs and more. The suggestions from this research will be very useful for companies that want to improve performance through the use of technology and information systems.

Strategic information systems: Reflections and prospectives

The Journal of Strategic Information Systems, 2012

Information Technology (IT) needs to be taken seriously, its management needs to be integrated into the mainstream activities of executives and we need to do much more in ensuring that IT 'delivers the goods' by providing the business and social benefits. These are messages that we have heard for a number of years now. But it still seems to be the case that many managers do not take IT seriously: in fact some dismiss the topic as an irrelevance. In business schools around the world, it is often the case that IT, IT strategy and information management are considered at best as optional topics unworthy of being included in the core program. And where they do receive greater attention, it is often the case that a discussion of information and IT issues is not integrated into other business topics. The JSIS seeks to do something about this sad state of affairs. It will provide a forum for debate on these and associated issues. . .

The Strategic Impact of Information Systems in Organizations: An Empirical Study

International Journal of Applied Decision Sciences, 2022

In a volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, having up-to-date information of a high quality is one of the main assets that organisations can have, enabling them to choose the best strategies that will grant competitive advantage, resilience and consequently drive success. The present research aims to understand the contribution of information systems (IS) for strategy, what benefits organisations can achieve through the effective implementation of IS and in which resources organisations should invest, as a way to maximise those benefits and to mitigate the risks associated with IS implementation. The methodology uses data gathered through a questionnaire and analysis is done using structure equation modelling. The results obtained show that the IS have a positive impact in organisations' strategy and that the investments made by organisations in IS implementation are influenced by the benefits and risks perceived by using IS.

The status of the information systems field: historical perspective and practical orientation

Information Research, 2000

This paper provides a detailed assessment of the current status of the Information Systems (IS) field by tracing its historical evolution. It uses lessons drawn from the history of another social science, sociology, to highlight some of the fundamental choices now facing IS researchers. Firstly, the paper identifies the most important tensions and forces that shaped the evolution of the IS field in the 40 or so years of its history. Secondly, it draw a comparison between IS and sociology and uses some selected fundamental patterns of the history of the latter to explain the main aspects of the evolution of IS. Finally, noting that IS researchers do not seem to have succeeded in developing a core of concepts and definitions to enable the accumulation of knowledge in IS and to significantly contribute to the improvement of the business application of information systems, the paper calls for a debate on the future orientations of the field and identifies some of the choices that can be made at this stage of the evolution of the field.

The Nexus Of Management Information System (MIS) Implementation And Managerial Performance: An Exploratory Study

Journal of Information Engineering and Applications, 2013

This paper examines the nexus of Management Information System Implementation and Managerial performance in respect of sustainability related measurement systems in organisational management. From a resource-based perspective of the firm information is viewed as one of the critical intangible resource necessary for organisational survival and growth. This exploratory study used a structured five-point likert scale questionnaire to obtain desired responses from a sample of 45 respondents. Two hypotheses were formulated and tested in the study. The Multiple Regression statistical method formed the basis for the relationship prediction. The findings revealed that MIS implementation has implications for the development of managerial human resource, social and environmental core competencies as revealed by the Coefficient of Determination (R 2 ), as both had predictive powers of 90% and above. Based on this, the study suggests the adoption and implementation of MIS in organisations. This will aid managers develop technique expertise in the areas of human resource, social and environmental competence areas which is directly linked to the survival and growth of the corporation by providing tools for sustainability performance, stakeholder management and competitive advantage.

REVIEW OF MANAGEMENT INFORMATION SYSTEMS RESEARCH: A MANAGEMENT SUPPORT EMPHASIS

This article organizes, describes, and evaluates MIS research from 1981 through 1985 in order to provide an understanding of what constitutes MIS research and to indicate potentially rich areas for future research. The review emphasizes information systems research in support of management decision making as opposed, for example, to research into the management of information resources or the development of strategic information systems. Preliminary work includes developing a definition of MIS, adopting an organizing framework, and choosing journals for review. Once this foundation is laid, MIS research content and methodology up to 1980 are summarized based upon the findings of the First International Conference on Information Systems. Finally, MIS research from 1981 to 1985 is described and evaluated in terms of content and methodology.

Social importance of information systems. In management

2020

Introduction: We are pleased to present a monograph addressing key issues in contemporary management – information systems. Nowadays, many organizations face challenges of digital transformation and analysis of the large databases containing billions of records become the necessity of the day and the key factor of success.
