2003'TEN SONRA IRAK'TAKİ IRAN'IN SİYASİ HEDEFLERİ (original) (raw)

After the Islamic revolution in 1979, the Islamic Republic of Iran, as a regional power, formulated its political goals differently. The Iranian political goals are inconsistent with the western countries especially, the United States, and other countries in the region. One of the countries in which Iran had severe struggle with was Iraq under the Baathist party. But after changing the Baathist regime by the United States and its allies, many problems between Iran and Iraq ceased to exist. Therefore, for the Iranians, removing the Baathist regime by the US was a positive turning point, as since 2003 Iraq became one of the Iranian allies. Additionally, the Iranians are unwilling to see a new and strong Iraq challenging to them. Moreover, Iran wanted to challenge the American forces in Iraq and supported withdrawal of coalition forces from that country in order to allow Iran to play a major role in the Iraqi political process as well as using Iraq as a gateway to spread its influence in the region. Key Words; Iran, Iraq, The Toppling of Ba'ath Regime, US. Intervention In Iraq, Political Targets.
