Road traffic injuries pose a serious public health problem worldwide, especially in low-income countries. The aim of this study was to determine the effectiveness of a post-license road safety education intervention programme in terms of increased knowledge and self-reported behaviour among commercial minibus drivers in Lagos, Nigeria. This was a quasi-experimental study conducted in three phases. Participating motor parks (selected by simple random sampling) were assigned to either the intervention or control group. All eligible minibus drivers were included with no matching. Data analysis was done with Epi-info version 3.5.1. Comparison was done in terms of group driver education versus no education, and pre-versus post-intervention. Out of an estimated 500 male drivers, 407 participated in the study. Most had some form of formal education. For both groups, pre-intervention knowledge scores were poor but improved significantly post-intervention in the intervention group. None of the drivers in the intervention group had good scores but this increased to 66,1% post-intervention. Their mean score

The study evaluated the commercial vehicle drivers’ perception of the effectiveness of Federal Road Safety Commission road safety education programme on their driving experience, age and behaviour toward safety signs on the roads and highways. It also investigated the influence of drivers’ educational background, duration of learning road safety, behaviour and knowledge on their attitude to road safety education programme. These were with the view to improving the quality of road safety education and training in the country. The study adopted a mixed research approach combining both descriptive survey and focus group designs. The sample consisted of 2,000 commercial vehicle drivers operating in the seven big inter-city parks in the eight local government areas that made up the Hadejia zone in Jigawa State, Nigeria. A 52-item self-developed instrument was used in the study. The qualitative data was collected via focus group. Data were analyzed using One-Way Analysis of Variance (ANOVA), Protected Fisher’s t-test, Pearson Product Moment Correlation and Stepwise Multiple Regression statistical methods at 0.05 level of significance. The results showed that commercial vehicle drivers’ educational background, duration of learning road safety, behaviour and knowledge significantly combine to influence their attitude to road safety education programme. Further, there existed a significant difference in drivers’ perception of the effectiveness of FRSC road safety education programme on their driving experience toward road safety signs on the roads and highways. However, a non significant difference existed in drivers’ perception of the effectiveness of FRSC road safety education programme on their behaviour toward road safety signs on the roads and highways due to their age. The study concluded that continuous enlightenment campaign through radios, televisions, motor garages to educate commercial drivers is imperative in the country. International Journal of Creative Research Thoughts (IJCRT), 2021
Background: A road traffic accident (RTA) is any injury due to crashes originating from, terminating with or involving a vehicle partially or fully on a public road. It is projected that road traffic injuries will move up to the third position by the year 2020 among leading causes of the global disease burden. They are considerable economic losses to victims, their families, and to countries as a whole. Aim and objective: A study was planned to assess the knowledge of road safety among adolescents. and to find out an association between the knowledge of adolescents regarding road safety with selected demographic variables. Material and method: A Quantitative approach and survey design used for this study. The study was conducted on three hundred adolescents of junior colleges. The data gathering technique used was self-reporting and non-probability convenient sampling. Results: The analysis and interpretation revealed that it was observed that there is association between knowledge score of adolescents and the 3 colleges. It was observed that there is association between knowledge score of adolescents and the gender. It was observed that there is association between knowledge score of adolescents and the class in which they are studying. i.e., 11th class and 12th class. Conclusion: The finding of the study showed that, the knowledge regarding road safety among adolescent was good except some adolescent gave the wrong answer. It was also observed that female adolescents gave more correct response than male adolescents. Adolescents are more curious to finding out the correct answers. Many of them would like someone to come and teach them correct concepts of various health related topics. Knowledge of the adolescent was more may be because of the more exposure to social media.
