TELKOMNIKA Telecommunication Computing Electronics and Control, 2019

Energy harvesting relay network is considered as the promising solution for a wireless communication network in our time. In this research, we present and demonstrate the system performance of the energy harvesting based two-way full-duplex relaying network over Nakagami-m fading environment. Firstly, we propose the analytical expressions of the achievable throughput and outage probability of the proposed system. In the second step, the effect of various system parameters on the system performance is presented and investigated. In the final step, the analytical results are also demonstrated by Monte-Carlo simulation. The numerical results demonstrated and convinced the analytical and the simulation results are agreed with each other.

Capacity Maximizing Adaptive Time-Switching Protocol for Energy Harvesting Full-Duplex Relaying Network over Rayleigh Fading Channel

Journal of Advanced Engineering and Computation, 2022

This paper studies a decode-andforward (DF) full-duplex cooperative relaying network, whereas one transmitter S transmits information to one receiver D via the help of a relay R. In particular, the transmitter can simultaneously transmit energy and information (SWIPT) to relay R using time-switching (TS) method. Then, relay R can utilize the harvested energy to transfer information to the receiver D. Based on the proposed system model, we derive the mathematical expressions for the system capacity for the proposed non-adaptive TS (NATSP) and adaptive TS protocols (ATSP). Next, the Monte Carlo simulations are executed to corroborate the exactness of the analysis compared to the numerical results. Both numerical and analytical results show the superiority of ATSP over NATSP.

Evaluating the effect of self-interference on the performance of full-duplex two-way relaying communication with energy harvesting

REV Journal on Electronics and Communications, 2019

In this paper, we study the throughput and outage probability (OP) of two-way relaying (TWR) communication system with energy harvesting (EH). The system model consists two source nodes and a relay node which operates in full-duplex (FD) mode. The effect of self-interference (SI) due to the FD operation on the system performance is evaluated for both one-way full duplex (OWFD) and two-way full duplex (TWFD) diagrams where the amplify-and-forward (AF) relay node collects energy harvesting with the time switching (TS) scheme. We first propose an individual OP expression for each specific source. Then, we derive the exact closed-form overall OP expression for the OWFD diagram. For the TWFD diagram, we propose an approximate closed-form expression for the overall OP. The overall OP comparison among hybrid systems (Two-Way Half-Duplex (TWHD), OWFD, TWFD) are also discussed. Finally, the numerical/simulated results are presented for Rayleigh fading channels to demonstrate the correction ...

Half-duplex power beacon-assisted energy harvesting relaying networks: system performance analysis

International Journal of Electrical and Computer Engineering (IJECE)

In this work, the half-duplex (HF) power beacon-assisted (PB) energy harvesting (EH) relaying network, which consists of a source (S), Relay (R), destination (D) and a power beacon (PB) are introduced and investigated. Firstly, the analytical expressions of the system performance in term of outage probability (OP) and the system throughput (ST) are analyzed and derived in both amplify-and-forward (AF) and decode-and-forward (DF) modes. After that, we verify the correctness of the analytical analysis by using Monte-Carlo simulation in connection with the primary system parameters. From the numerical results, we can see that all the analytical and the simulation results are matched well with each other.

Outage Probability and Ergodic Capacity of a Two-User NOMA Relaying System with an Energy Harvesting Full-Duplex Relay and Its Interference at the Near User

Sensors, 2020

In this paper, we consider a two-user downlink full-duplex (FD) non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) relay system where the FD relay uses an energy harvesting (EH) technique to assist the communication between the base station and far user over flat, independent and non-identically Rayleigh fading channels. Importantly, since the relay operates in FD mode, we take into account the effect of the interference caused by relay on the near user. Considering this EH-FD-NOMA relay system, we derive the exact mathematical expressions of the outage probabilities and ergodic capacities of near and far users. Monte–Carlo simulations verify the accuracy of our analytical method. Numerical results provided in this paper allow system designers to clearly see not only the impacts of the power distribution factor and the self-interference cancellation capacity of the relay but also the influence of the strength of inter-user interference at the near user on the outage performances and ergodic capa...

Outage analysis in two-way communication with RF energy harvesting relay and co-channel interference

Transactions on Emerging Telecommunications Technologies, 2017

The study of relays with the scope of energy-harvesting (EH) looks interesting as a means of enabling sustainable, wireless communication without the need to recharge or replace the battery driving the relays. However, reliability of such communication systems becomes an important design challenge when such relays scavenge energy from the information bearing RF signals received from the source, using the technique of simultaneous wireless information and power transfer (SWIPT). To this aim, this work studies bidirectional communication in a decode-and-forward (DF) relay assisted cooperative wireless network in presence of co-channel interference (CCI). In order to quantify the reliability of the bidirectional communication systems, a closed form expression for the outage probability of the system is derived for both power splitting (PS) and time switching (TS) mode of operation of the relay. Simulation results are used to validate the accuracy of our analytical results and illustrate the dependence of the outage probability on various system parameters, like PS factor, TS factor, and distance of the relay from both the users. Results of performance comparison between PS relaying (PSR) and TS relaying (TSR) schemes are also presented. Besides, simulation results are also used to illustrate the spectral-efficiency and the energy-efficiency of the proposed system. The results show that, both in terms of spectralefficiency and the energy-efficiency, the two-way communication system in presence of moderate CCI power, performs better than the similar system without CCI. Additionally, it is also found that PSR is superior to TSR protocol in terms of peak energy-efficiency.

Energy Harvesting over Rician Fading Channel: A Performance Analysis for Half-Duplex Bidirectional Sensor Networks under Hardware Impairments

Sensors (Basel, Switzerland), 2018

In this paper, a rigorous analysis of the performance of time-switching energy harvesting strategy that is applied for a half-duplex bidirectional wireless sensor network with intermediate relay over a Rician fading channel is presented to provide the exact-form expressions of the outage probability, achievable throughput and the symbol-error-rate (SER) of the system under the hardware impairment condition. Using the proposed probabilistic models for wireless channels between mobile nodes as well as for the hardware noises, we derive the outage probability of the system, and then the throughput and SER can be obtained as a result. Both exact analysis and asymptotic analysis at high signal-power-to-noise-ratio regime are provided. Monte Carlo simulation is also conducted to verify the analysis. This work confirms the effectiveness of energy harvesting applied in wireless sensor networks over a Rician fading channel, and can provide an insightful understanding about the effect of vari...

Full-duplex distributed switch-and-stay networks with wireless energy harvesting: design and outage analysis

EURASIP Journal on Wireless Communications and Networking, 2016

Distributed switch and stay combining (DSSC) has been considered as an effective technique to achieve spatial diversity in a distributed manner with low processing complexity. In this paper, we incorporate DSSC into a full-duplex dual hop relaying system, where two energy-constrained relay nodes assist the information transmission from the source to the destination using energy wirelessly harvested from the source. By applying DSSC at the destination, this efficient technique not only improves performance of full-duplex relaying systems and increases the system diversity but also reduces the implementation and hardware complexity at the destination. We obtain tight approximate expression for outage probability in the case of using decode-and-forward (DF) relaying protocol and analytical expression for outage probability in the case of using amplify-and-forward (AF) relaying protocol. Numerical results show that our DSSC full-duplex relaying with wireless information and power transfer (WIPT) system achieves the full spatial diversity and has a better performance in terms of outage probability than that of the DSSC half-duplex relaying and conventional full-duplex relaying with WIPT system.

On outage minimization in RF energy harvesting relay assisted bidirectional communication

Wireless Networks, 2019

This paper explores an end-to-end outage probability experienced in a bidirectional relay assisted communication where the relay is assumed to be equipped with an RF energy harvesting circuit. First, the closed-form expression for the outage of the system is derived. This is followed by the formulation of an unconstrained optimization problem to achieve minimum outage probability with respect to the relay placement and consequent time allocation for energy harvesting. The system model is further extended in an underlay cognitive radio framework to study the impact of a primary user outage constraint on the end-to-end outage performance of the two-way communications. The accuracy of analytical results is validated through simulation results. The impact of various system parameters like relay position, time allocation factor, target rate of transmission on the outage probability is also observed. In addition, it is also shown that spectral efficiency of the communication system using hybrid power-time switching relaying protocol is much superior to similar one-way and two-way relay assisted communication system with power splitting relaying protocol. Outage Probability of Energy Harvesting Relay-Aided Cooperative Networks Over Rayleigh Fading Channel

IEEE Transactions on Vehicular Technology, 2016

Energy harvesting technique is a potential way for relay node energy supply in cooperative networks in terms of deployment flexibility and maintain charge reduction. Unlike traditional power source, relay node in this case may run out of energy with certain probability, which can degrade the benefit from relay-aided cooperative transmission. In this paper, we concentrate on the outage behavior of cooperative networks aided by energy harvesting relay node in slow fading channel, and attempt to derive the closed-form expression of outage probability of proposed cooperative protocol. Compared with traditional direct transmission protocol, two conclusions are derived: 1) the diversity gain cannot be increased excepting the extreme case that energy-exhausted probability is zero; 2) a multiplicative gain for improving system performance can be obtained in terms of minimizing outage probability.
