Severe accident research in the core degradation area: An example of effective international cooperation between the European Union (EU) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) by the International Science and Technology Center

The paper has two following objectives:-To describe the organization of complex, international, experimental and analytical research of material processes under extreme conditions similar to those of severe accidents in nuclear reactors and,-To inform briefly about some of the results of these studies. The multilateral research program was supported and managed by the International Science and Technology Centre (ISTC). The ISTC was to support non-proliferation of sensitive knowledge and technologies in biological, chemical and nuclear domains by engaging scientists in peaceful research programmes with a broad international cooperation. The main forms of ISTC activity are Research projects and Supporting programs. In the Research projects informal contact expert groups (CEG) were set up by ISTC to improve coordination between adjacent projects and to encourage international collaboration: first of all by the European Commission. The CEG members-experts from the national institutes-evaluated and managed the projects' scientific results from initial stage of proposal formulation until the final reporting. They were often involved directly in the project's details by joining the Steering Committees of the project. The Contact Expert Group for Severe Accident & Management (CEG-SAM) is one of these groups. Five project groups from this area given as examples from the total of funded 30 projects during 10 years of activity to demonstrate this: 1) QUENCH-VVER from RIAR, Dimitrovgrad & IBRAE, Moscow, and PARAMETER projects (SF1 & SF4) from LUCH, Podolsk & IBRAE, Moscow, concerning a detailed study of bundle quenching from high temperature; 2) Reactor Core Degradation, a modelling project simulating the fuel rod degradation and loss of geometry from IBRAE, Moscow; 3) METCOR projects from NITI, St. Petersburg on the interaction of core melt with reactor vessel steel; 4) CORPHAD & PRECOS projects, NITI St. Petersburg undertook a systematic examination of refractory ceramics relevant to in-vessel and ex-vessel coria, particularly examining poorly characterised, limited data or experimentally difficult systems; and finally, 5) INVECOR project, NNE Kurchatov City, Kazakhstan, This is a large-scale (60 kg) facility to examine the vessel steel retention of corium during the decay heat.

State of Knowledge on Reliability and Safety in the Light of the Scientific Conferences in 2017

The presented analysis of state of knowledge on reliability and safety is based on publications of 27th European Safety and Reliability Conference ESREL 2017, which took place in Portoroz in Slovenia on 18-22 June 2017 and 52nd and 49rd Seminars of ESReDA European Safety, Reliability and Data Association which were held, respectively: at Vytautas Magnus University in Kaunas, Lithuania (29-31 May 2017) and at European Commission Joint Research Center, Ispra, Italy (13-15 November 2017).

A survey of Quality Engineering-Management journals by bibliometric indicators

This paper analyses some of the most popular scientific journals in the Quality field from the point of view of three bibliometric indicators: the Hirsch (h) index for journals, the total number of citations and the h-spectrum. In particular, h-spectrum is a novel tool based on h, making it possible to (i) identify a reference profile of the typical authors of a journal; (ii) compare different journals; and (iii) provide a rough indication of their ‘bibliometric positioning’ in the scientific community. Results of this analysis can be helpful for guiding potential authors and members of the scientific community in the Quality Engineering/Management area. Evolution of steam turbines: A bibliometric approach

This study investigates the contribution from researchers around the world in the field of steam turbines during the period 2000-2020. A bibliometric approach has been applied to illustrate the scientific publications on steam turbines and related topics using the Scopus database, which has 11,751 publications published by 652 authors from more than 500 organizations scattered over 101 countries. Various aspects of the studies have been analyzed such as publication type, fundamental research areas, journals, citations, authorship patterns, affiliations, and most used keywords. In addition, the impact factor, h-index, and Paper İmpact Parameter (PIP) for the number of total citations have been used to reveal the power of countries, institutes, authors, and journals in the field of steam turbines. The results show that the most productive journal or proceedings, author, and country according to PIP are Energy, Ibrahim Dincer, and Singapore, respectively. The results also indicate turbomachinery to cover more papers than other core research areas and engineering subjects to also have the highest ratio.

The h-index was proposed in 2005, to objectively measure the impact and relevance of individuals' scientific output, based on their number of publications and citations. Since then, many works have studied the index's advantages and limitations, in various contexts and viewpoints. Still, we contribute to such a vast literature, by adopting a multi-criteria perspective to this matter. More precisely, we study the hindex in light of the fundamental axioms of coherence. We show that the number of publications and the number of total citations alone do not compose a coherent criteria family for the h-index, because it does not follow the axiom of exhaustivity. Thus, in this paper, we study examples from the literature to propose a suitable third criterion for the h-index, specifically, the form of the citation distribution among publications, which is less obvious than the other two. We verify that, with all three criteria, the criteria family that forms the h-index becomes coherent.

Research Output and Citation Analysis of Leading Global Engineering Research Countries during 2002-16

In the present study, output and citation analysis of research activities in engineering in the world are mapped during 2002-2016.The study aims to promote the awareness of the global research output in engineering. With this aim, Scimago Journal & Country Rank data (Scopus ® database of Elsevier) has been accessed for obtaining the required scholarly publication data. An attempt for evaluation on different qualitative and quantitative parameters like number of publications, citation analysis, research output, and h-index has been done. With these indicators in the research, analysis and assessment of total 7252275 publications from engineering field were done. The results show that out of the total research output, China stands first with 22.22% share of the research and is followed by United States (17.78%) and Japan (6.04%). Outstanding countries in engineering research have significant impact and 68.93% of the total global engineering research has been done in 10 leading countries. During the period of study, the research output of engineering has improved considerably with an average annual growth of 6.88%.

Forty years of Computers & Industrial Engineering: A bibliometric analysis

Computers & Industrial Engineering (CIE) is a leading international journal in the field of industrial engineering , whose first issue was published in 1976. Motivated by its 40th anniversary in 2016, this study aims to develop a bibliometric analysis of the publications of the journal between 1976 and 2015. The objective is to identify the leading trends of the journal in terms of impact, topics, universities and countries. In doing so, the work uses the Web of Science Core Collection database to analyze the bibliometric data. Additionally, the work also uses the visualization of similarities (VOS) viewer software to map graphically the bibliographic material. The graphical analysis uses bibliographic coupling, co-citation, citation, co-authorship and co-occurrence of keywords. This paper also offers an editorial perspective of the journal's policy, editorial process, and performance progress.
