The evolution of auditing: An analysis of the historical development
This paper aims to analyze the development of auditing. It is found that auditing has evolved through a number of stages. In the mid 1800s to early 1900s, the audit practice was considered as " traditional conformance role of auditing ". However, for the past 30 years, the auditor has been playing an " enhancing role ". Today, auditors are expected not only to enhance the credibility of the financial statement, but also to provide value-added services. Nevertheless, following extensive reform in various countries as a result of the collapse of big corporations, it is expected that the role of auditors will converge. It is evident that the paradigm about auditing has shifted over the years and it is likely to continue shifting in the future.

This study is an attempt to show the issues faced by the auditors-practicing Chartered Accountants. Study is made within Belagavi city. The objective of the study resembles the topic of this paper-to find out the issues faces by the auditors and to understand those issues. The Primary data is collected in the form of questionnaire and oral interview. Secondary data is collected through CA Institute and references for audit theory. Comparison and analyses are made through charts and tables to understand the issues faced by auditors in Belagavi City. There are various facets of the study which explores the practical issues and has no thematic solution in the theory of auditing and any statute. Theoretically speaking, the Indian system of auditing is an excellent system which is carried out by professionals and it is very hard for the client organization/firm to find any loophole in it. But, does not have solutions to basic problems faced by the auditors which are discussed in this study. Yet, this study aims at just pointing out the persistent issues in the profession of auditing. Considering the issues, respondents, that are practicing auditors, have given solutions and are stated in the article.

The passage of the Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) was a turning point in auditing and in auditors practice for the academic world. Research concerning the characterization of academic production related to auditing is in its third decade. Its analysis is accomplished by means of definition of keywords, abstracts or title, and information on thematic association within the academic production itself in auditing is undisclosed. In order to revise this gap in auditing literature, this study identified the main themes in auditing and their association in post-SOX era by analyzing the content of objectives and hypothesis of 1,650 publications in Web of Science (2002-2014). The findings in this study extended those from the study by Lesage and Wechtler (2012) from 16 auditing thematic typologies to 22. The evaluation of the audit quality is a current topic, taking into account that the increase of the information volume which can be found in the financial statements, requires a high effort to perform a quality audit mission, but also necessary. The research methodology proposed in this article is qualitative, by systematizing the most relevant scientific articles in which the issue of indicators influencing the quality of the audit services was debated. The analysis resulted in several indicators for measuring the quality of the audit services, the most relevant being regarding the characteristics of the auditor, the size of the company, the rotation of the auditors or information transparency. APPLICATION OF COMPUTER ASSISTED AUDIT TECHNIQUES IN PUBLIC ACCOUNTING FIRM

Facing the industrial revolution 4.0, every profession in the world must improve, every professional workforce involved in it, must begin to add one skill that is computer literacy. This phenomenon certainly occurs also for the financial auditor profession. Auditors are required to no longer only carry out the audit process manually or traditionally but to use computerization. In auditing this is referred to as computer assisted audit techniques. Our research is a qualitative study, we use literature studies as secondary data and primary data collection techniques. Primary data collection is done by observation to public accounting firms and conducting interviews with auditors to find out how the application of audit software in their environment. Our interviews include: understanding, constraints faced, and the auditor's views regarding the audit software itself. In this study we obtained results regarding the advantages and disadvantages of the computer assisted audit technique and a review of its application in public accounting firms in Indonesia both the big four and the non big four. Our research can be a reference or reference for subsequent research in the field of audit and software.
