Psychological well-being of elderly people: the social factors

The article discusses the social factors of psychological well-being of elderly people. Psychological well-being is a personal phenomenon. It forms in the process of human activity and in the system of people`s real relationships with surrounding objects. In old age psychological well-being is determined by different factors. The social factor is one of them. It has been found that higher levels of psychological well-being have those elderly people who do not feel themselves lonely, who have enough opportunities to communicate with other people, who take part in a social life, who live with relatives. Specifics of everyday activity in older age are not substantially related to psychological well-being.

Psycho-Social Factors Affecting Well-being of Older Adults: A Critical Analysis for Policy Directions

Psycho-social competence is a key determinant of the quality of life of older adults. They command high respect and have an important role in the socialization of new generations, whereby they are responsible for solving the problems within a family, caste, and community through their experience. This has paved the way for an identity crisis among the geriatric population, whereby they are facing lots of painful realities in life. The socio-demographic factors play a major role in deciding their quality of life. It includes a multifaceted perspective which includes lifestyle, socio-cultural & political environment, financial compatibility, and relationship goals. It is flourishing and well-being in nature, both mentally and physically. The ones who lived with prime glory once now encounter various mental and physical illnesses prolonged by technological advancement. With the process of delayed aging, up-to-date caretaking is also delayed, making the senior population's survival difficult. Longevity has badly affected the lives of older adults with physical and mental health issues caused due to their psycho-social incompetency or self-practiced social norms. However, if the illness is prevented by providing appropriate interventions like timely check-ups, proper medication, etc. In that case, the potentiality of geriatric illness can be controlled to an extent, which shall create new horizons for the quality of life of the geriatric population. This review report aims to analyze the competing psycho-social factors affecting the quality of life of the geriatric population.

Old age people problems and their importance in everyone's life

The old people population is huge and becoming issue day by day because of human health issues. These individuals are challenged with various physical, mental and social changes that challenge their feeling of self and ability to live joyfully. Numerous individuals experience isolations and sorrow in seniority, either because of living alone or because of the absence of close family ties and diminished associations with their way of life of the source, which results in a failure to effectively take an interest in the public works. With progressing age, it is unavoidable that individuals lose association with their companionship systems and that they think that it is progressively hard to start new bonds and to have a place with new systems. The present examination was led to explore the connections among dejection, depression and friendliness in older individuals.

AN EMPIRICAL STUDY ON SOCIO–ECONOMIC AND PHYSICAL STATUS OF OLD AGED

ABSTRACT At present the population of old age people is dramatically increasing day by day. Consequently, the growing population of old age people create imbalance situation within the society and the modern and changing world is unable to take proper care on them. So only, they are attracted towards the old age home to lead a healthy and prosperous life. Some old age people are not living well along with health so the old age people are compelled to live in the old age home. Due to physical and mental determination the old age people become away from the family. As well as the family status and the economic condition of the family force the old age people to leave in old age home to lead a healthy life. Beside the death of the family members the old age people are unable to service in the family atmosphere. In our society nearly last fifteen years average age of old age people has increased up to 8%. In the last 60 years the old age people were kept on the highest ladder in the family and were perceived as much respected people in the family society, and community.

Psychological social and rehabilitation problems of elderly people in home and care treatment institution

Psychological problems are commonly understood as patient's problems of psychological nature, resulting from their age and its consequences. Social problems are considered as limitations in social functioning of the elderly and problems connected with exclusion and discrimination. Rehabilitation problems are somatic of nature, connected with senility and old-age diseases. Materials and Methods Case study is a qualitative examination of holistic approach of the elderly person. This dissertation is focused on old-age problems of the people who are staying at home and of the people who are in a Care Institution for the reasons beyond their control. It was assumed that there will be differences in behavior between the person who is at home comparing to the person living in a Care Institution. The following variables were taken into consideration: the elderly person's mood, understood as constant emotional state, psychological needs, traumatic experiences, mental state and their expectations from assisting persons.

The aims: The movement of societies toward elderliness has today created a big challenge for the countries. Aging of population in Iran is one of the major challenges of social security system so that by population aging, its finance burden will be increased on these systems and a serious measure should be taken for it because social and psychological problems are of the most important challenges of aging. Materials and methods: This study is a descriptive qualitative research. The statistical population which is studied is the elderly of Tehran 5th district in which a sample of 286 people have been selected and investigated through distributing questionnaire. Cronbach’s alpha related to the sample has been obtained as 0.76 which shows relatively good reliability of sample. Findings: Social and psychological problems of the elderly were statistically and analytically described through sampling 286 elderlies living in Tehran 5th district. The data were analyzed using SPSS software and the significance of relationships among variables was checked in each section. Conclusion: Through obtained results of statistical analysis, the elderlies’ age in this district ranges from 66 to 70 years old and most of them are men. They were dissatisfied more in the field of social and psychological problems, trust and respecting to the elderly as well as independency and low rate of social supports and social relationships (friends and colleagues) bother them

A Study on Happiness and Life-Satisfaction among Elderly in Relation with Self-Esteem

Aging is a Universal phenomenon with a wealth of life experiences. The life experiences earned by the elderly are multidimensional phenomenon which includes physical, mental, social, economic and spiritual aspect in life. The present study intends to examine life-satisfaction and Happiness among elderly with respect to their Self-Esteem in New Delhi. The sample consisted of 150 Elderly people in New Delhi which comprised of males (87) and females (63) by using purposive sampling technique and the data is collected by using Life-Satisfaction Scale (Promila Singh and Joseph George), Oxford Happiness Scale (Michael Argyle and Peter Hills) and Rosenberg Self Esteem Scale. The result found that is there no significant difference between male and female old age people in respect to Self-Esteem, Happiness and life satisfaction and there is a significant difference among place of locality of Elderly people with reference to Self-Esteem, Happiness and Life-Satisfaction. The results also observed that there was positive relationship between Self-Esteem, Happiness and Life-Satisfaction and Self-Esteem is the key predictor of Happiness and Life-Satisfaction. The results were discussed on socio-cultural context in India. The study revolves around the elderly people of New Delhi and was ascertained to find out their happiness and life-satisfaction level in respect to their self-esteem. Aging is a universal and natural biological process of the number of years one lives. It is a Multidimensional phenomenon which includes social, demographical, economical and psychological spheres of one"s life. Aging presents us the wealth of life experiences that shapes our attitude and that is the base of my study. As one approaches towards 60, their participation level in every sphere of life diminishes. Therefore this "graying of age" has become a social problem. The quality of life, their attitude and life experiences have landed them to what extent of life satisfaction and happiness level in their empty nest stage of life cycle is the study under observation. Study on institutionalized and non-institutionalized elderly people

The aim of this study was to assess and compare of aging in institutionalized and noninstitutionalized elderly people. The instruments used were a satisfaction with a life scale and psychological scale. The total sample 120 elderly people 60 institutionalized people and 60 non-institutionalized aged group 60-85 years. Statistically significant difference were found for the scale‘s factors between institutionalized and noninstitutionalized older adults. In the factor dependence, sadness, and old fashioned. The study revealed the majority of elderly had not satisfaction with life live in institutionalized. The test was applied to check difference of elderly people in institutionalized and non-institutionalized. The ANOVA method and t’ test used to check the difference.

In Turkey, it is seen that the rate of married people decreases as age increases, and the rate of women who lose their spouses and become widowed in their old age increases. When the literature on older women living alone is examined, it is seen that risk factors and risk groups are the subject of more research. It can be said that as the level of meeting the psychological needs of individuals increases, positive emotions increase. For this reason, it is thought that it is important to investigate protective factors as well as risk factors. The main purpose of this research was to analyze the psychological needs of women over the age of 60 living alone in a city on the Aegean coast of Turkey. Purposeful sampling method was used in this study. A qualitative method was preferred and open-ended semi-structured interviews were conducted with 12 participants. These 12 participants are women over the age of 60 who are widowed or divorced, living alone, meet their basic financial needs and do not have any significant health problems, attend the trainings and courses of the city council. The data was collected by phone calls due to Covid-19 pandemic. Thematic content analysis was used to analyze the data. As a result of the analysis, the psychological needs of women living alone over the age of 60 were explained in categories such as survival, belonging, power, freedom and fun. It can be said that meeting the psychological needs of older women living alone as much as possible will increase the opportunity for healthy psychological aging. As a result of the research, it has been suggested to provide opportunities to meet the psychological needs of the elderly in order to successfully maintain the aging period, which is a neglected area, and to facilitate healthy psychological aging. .
