Philosophy Of Diplomacy: Anti-Diplomacy Of The Postmodern And Unipolar World (original) (raw)
Diplomacy is treated more often as just a skill, and/or profession. It is a systematization of what happens in practice, the means and manner of tactful actions in theory and practice of international relations. The ethics in diplomacy have a unilateral, non-dynamic and non-dialectical Manichaean meaning. Given that violence and hostilities are evil, often viewed as a necessity; diplomacy tries to instil peace which is considered good and moral. Such diplomatic tact is operationalised on 'Words' and actionable in 'Spirit' which are philosophically grounded in history and theory. This paper deliberates on the professional, contextual, philosophical and historical dimensions of diplomacy; and further on what the future holds for diplomacy.
