Biblical and Theological Frameworks for Sonship Reflections on Eschatological Sonship (original) (raw)

These papers concern the issue of translating doctrinally freighted words. I wrote them while the translation coordinator (2007-2011) for one region of a large translation organisation. They have been peer reviewed. I put them here because I still find them useful. This is the second paper. 25 years later, I still think 'Son' is best understood as an Economic term. That is not to say that it is in any way unimportant. Having just reviewed the Epistle to the Hebrews, the appointing of the Son and his Fathering is quoted to establish him as high priest, indeed the new eternal high priest (Hebrews 5:5) with an eternal intercessorship,, baaed on the Messiah being appointed "a priest after the order of Melchizedek" (5:10, 6:20, 7:10, 7:17).
