Te review is devoted to the research of A. S. Palkin, which studies the history of Yedinoverie from the origin of the idea of creating Old Rite parishes in communion with the mainline Church in the eighteenth century and up to the search by the Yedinovertsy for confessional identity at the end of the Syn o dal Period in the history of the Russian Orthodox Church. Te reviewer notes that the mo n ograph is based on rich archival source material located both in central and regional archives. Tis has allowed A. S. Palkin to create a convincing picture of the evolutio n of the Yedinoverie movement, to trace the change in the policy of the central government towards the Yedinovertsy, and to show the specifcs of the implementation of this policy in the regions. In this peer-reviewed work, the author proposes his own periodization of the history of the Yedinoverie movement, which the reviewer admits is quite convincing. In the review, other merits of this work are noted.

The article is devoted to the journalistic activities of the world-famous confessor, archpastor and surgeon St. Luke (Voino-Yasenetsky) in the «Journal of the Moscow Patriarchate» in the 1940–1950s. Having endured many years of exile and oppression for his church activities, St. Luke nevertheless speaks out in these articles about Soviet power extremely positively. The author asks about the reasons for this, about the true political views of the saint and the role of his publications. The publications are studied in comparison with the biography of the saint and the general historical context in the light of the problem of the double identity of believers in the citizens of the Soviet Union. As for the political views of the saint, three main versions that exist in literature are considered: monarchism, adherence to constitutional democracy or socialism. The conclusion is drawn: most likely, St. Luke preferred a constitutional-democratic system, but the political system of any state was fundamentally secondary for the saint in relation to religious faith and the ability for the Church to carry out activities to save human souls. Some pro-Soviet extremes in the articles of the saint can be explained by the specifics of the historical moment — the temporary "turn" of the Soviet regime towards the Church in the 1940s, as well as by the state recognition of the saint's personal merits; in addition, St. Luke could be guided by diplomatic principles and pastoral considerations for the sake of resolving or smoothing out internal ideological contradictions among Soviet citizens associated with a dual Orthodox-Soviet identity.

The Conjunctions chtoby 'so that, in order to' and daby 'so that, in order to' arose almost simultaneously in Russian (the first, most likely, in Church Slavonic texts), moreover, in the period from the 15th to the 17th centuries there was no strict distinction between them, although there hadalready been a tendency for more frequent use of chtoby in administrative and everyday texts, and ofdaby in Church Slavonic texts. On the other hand, the data of modern languages (19 th-21 st centuries), both Russian and Church Slavonic, indicate that at some point chtoby was finally ousted from the "synodal" Church Slavonic, and daby in Russian already was already perceived as a "bookish" and archaic conjunction. The author puts forward the thesis that the roots of the named functional and stylistic differentiation should be sought in the 18th century, the period when separate Church Slavonic and Russian literary languages were born.
