New advancements in the technology of wireless sensors have contributed to the development of special protocols which are unique to sensor networks where minimal energy consumption is vital and very important. As a result, the focus and effort of researchers is on designing better routing algorithms for a given application and network architecture of interest. Flat-based routing protocols have been found to be less advantageous to clustering routing protocols when their performance are compared in a large-scale wireless sensor network scenario. This is due to the fact that clustering operation reduces the amount of redundant messages that are transmitted all over the network when an event is detected. This paper is an investigation of cluster-based routing protocols for wireless sensor networks.
A Comparative Study of Existing Cluster-Based Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

Wireless Sensor Network (WSN) has grown vastly in the past few years and pointing out the crucial need for scalable and energy efficient network. Routing in WSN is challenging task because of limited resources of available energy and processing power. On the basis of network structure, routing protocol in WSN can be classified into two different categories such as flat routing and cluster-based or hierarchical routing. In literature review, researchers proposed a number of routing protocols in WSN. In which cluster-based routing protocols shows better performance as compare to other routing protocols. Therefore, the objective of this paper is to provide a review on some efficient cluster-based routing protocols with advantages and limitations.

Clustering Based Routing Protocols for Wireless Sensor Networks: A Survey
Due to the wide range of application of Wireless Sensor Networks (WSN)[1] the past few years have witnessed the potential use of it and also become a hot research area now a days. One the main degradation of WSN is that sensor nodes are battery powered and deployed in harsh environment so it is not possible to recharge or replace the batteries all the time the node fails or dead. WSN are used in various applications like environment monitoring, health care, military, industrial control units and in various other environments. Routing protocols developed for various other adhoc networks such as MANET, VANET etc can’t apply directly in WSN due to energy constrains of nodes. It is proved that sensor nodes require much energy to transmit data rather than sensing thus routing protocol developed for WSN should be efficient so that the network lifetime can be prolonged. In this paper, a survey on various Clustering routing protocols has been done indicating their merits and de-merits.
A Survey on Clustering Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks

The past few years have witnessed increased interest in the potential use of wireless sensor networks (WSNs) in a wide range of applications and it has become a hot research area. Based on network structure, routing protocols in WSNs can be divided into two categories: flat routing and hierarchical or clustering routing. Owing to a variety of advantages, clustering is becoming an active branch of routing technology in WSNs. In this paper, we present a comprehensive and fine grained survey on clustering routing protocols proposed in the literature for WSNs. We outline the advantages and objectives of clustering for WSNs, and develop a novel taxonomy of WSN clustering routing methods based on complete and detailed clustering attributes. In particular, we systematically analyze a few prominent WSN clustering routing protocols and compare these different approaches according to our taxonomy and several significant metrics. Finally, we summarize and conclude the paper with some future directions.
A Survey on Different Types of Clustering Based Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks
In most of today's application the wireless sensor network (WSN) play an important role.WSN is an autonomous system to monitor physical and environmental conditions. It can sense and compute the information or data or message that transmitted through it. Important design issue of the Wireless sensor networks energy consumption and lifetime of the network. The design of different routing protocol is another important design issue in WSN. There are mainly broad types of routing protocols in wireless sensor networks. This paper mainly deals with different types of cluster based routing protocols in WSN. Clustering algorithms are mainly defined to reduce the energy consumption and improves the life time of the network.

The prominence of Wireless Sensor Networks have expanded hugely because of the huge capability of the sensor systems to associate the physical world with the virtual world. Since these gadgets depend on battery and might be put in hostile environment so replacing them becomes a tedious job. In this manner, improving the energy of these networks becomes significant. This paper provides methods for clustering and cluster head selection to WSN to improve energy efficiency. In this paper, we develop, analyze and compare Low-energy adaptive clustering hierarchy (LEACH), Stable Election Protocol (SEP) and ZonalStable Election Protocol (Z-SEP) to achieve good performance in terms of stability period, network lifetime and throughput.

In WSN, the sensor nodes built on an inadequate storage capability, transmission range, sensing range and energy sources. Due to limitation of critical resource like battery, finding an effective route for data transmission has the interest of current researchers. Routing is the foremost topic in Wireless Sensor Network that reveals the dissimilarities among wireless networks such as mobile and vehicular ad-hoc networks. Clustering is another topic that aggregates data and distributes evenly among the nodes, so that the elected Cluster Head (CH) can be alive for extended time. Routing protocols are liable for providing routes and entails high energy expenditure. This improve the outcome of designing energy efficient clustering routing algorithms to enhance the network lifespan, to provide scalability by utilizing low power in data transmission and other operation. In this paper, various efficient protocols have been deliberated and the goal is to provide a clear-cut coverage on the literature survey on these protocols till date.
Comparative Analysis of Clustering Algorithms for Routing Protocols in Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSNs) are consisted of low cost and power-constrained sensor nodes. The limited battery power of sensor nodes is the important key challenge to achieving minimum energy consumption to maximize network lifetime. Hierarchical cluster-based routing protocols are one of the most efficient routing protocols in WSNs, because of its higher energy efficiency, lower data retransmission, and network scalability. Low Energy Adaptive Clustering Hierarchy (LEACH) is a clustering based protocol which improves the lifetime of WSNs.In order to meet the challenges, issues and the different methods which are proposed to solve them, in this paper, a brief introduction to routing challenges in WSNs, the basic classification of routing protocols are introduced, also a comparative analysis using a parameters such as a scheme using, hop count, advantages, and disadvantages of protocols has been presented.
Energy Efficient Clustering Routing Protocol for Wireless Sensor Networks

In Wireless sensor networks, several routing protocols have been developed to improve the various parameters such as stability period, throughput etc.After a homogenous protocol leach, many heterogeneous protocol were developed which successfully improved the routing in WSNs.In this Paper we studied one of the heterogeneous protocol DEEC and its improved version EDEEC and we tried to work on two parameters i.e. Stability period and throughput of the network to improve these further.In this Paper we introduced a new node i.e. super advanced node with the existing heterogeneous nodes in the EDEEC which successfully improved its stability period and we also incorporated a reactive protocol i.e. TEEN in our paper to make our network communication more efficient.Thus we used the best of EDEEC and TEEN and made TADEEC protocol. This has been simulated in Matlab and results have outperformed the LEACH, DEEC, EDEEC etc.
