4MAT MODELİNİN MADDE KONUSUNDA UYGULANMASININ İLKÖĞRETİM 7. SINIF ÖĞRENCİLERİNİN ÖĞRENME STİLLERİNE ETKİSİNİN İNCELENMESİ (original) (raw)
The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of teaching with 4MAT model the topic of "Structure and properties of matter" on 7 th grade students' learning styles. The sample of the study consisted of 235 (115 experimental, 120 control) 7th grade students studying in six different classes of 3 primary schools located in the center of Antakya. The schools were determined by the convenience sampling method. In each chosen school were randomly selected one as experimental and the other as control group. The structure and properties of matter unit of the course was taught to experimental groups with 4MAT model and to control groups with traditional instruction during 9 week (36 hours). As data collection instrument was used the learning style inventory administered to the students as pre and post tests. In the data analysis; frequency, percentage and percentage change statistics were used. The results of the study have shown that the most obvious difference in pre and post learning styles was that of the students who were in the experimental group, dynamic learners' ratio was increased 46% and that of the students who were in the control group, analytic learners' ratio was increased 37% on post learning styles. Consequently, it can be seen that 4MAT system, in which the learning style is flexible, is an effective method in addressing students' learning styles. Teachers, to make sure that all of the students learn, should prepare their course materials in a way that targets all learning styles and should provide various methods and techniques in teaching environments.
