What is Music, Health, and Wellbeing and Why is it Important?
The great saxophonist Charlie Parker once proclaimed 'if you don't live it, it won't come out of your horn'. This quote has often been used to explain the hedonistic lifestyle of many jazz greats; however, it also signals the reciprocal and inextricable relationship between music and wider social, cultural, and psychological variables. This link is complex and multifaceted and is undoubtedly a central component of why music has been implicated as a therapeutic agent in vast swathes of contemporary research studies. Music is always about more than just acoustic events or notes on a page. Moreover, music's universal and timeless potential to influence how we feel and think lies at the heart of our motivation to produce this edited volume.

The melodious notes of music have the capacity to cure the mental or physical fatigue of a weary person. Music has magical power. This is testified by the fact that Orpheus a legendary Greek Musician could make stones dance to his music. The stories of Tansen and Baiju Bawra are not unknown to us. They could light lamps, melt stones, blossom flowers in autumn, cause rain just by the accurate use of the accurate tune. There is no doubt about the various powers of music, but the aspect of music which is of the greatest value to the human being is its emotional aspect. At present music has spread in all the directions. Every one is fond of listening music and his fan of an artist of his choice and he like to listen his songs. If we see any part of life we can hear and the feel lyrics of the music. Door bell in the house or in telephone ring we can hear different type of music. Wall clocks also spread musical tune the whole universe is under the impact of music. Music can be heard in temples, mosque, Gurudwara's and church early in the morning and evening. In cars buses, tractors, etc. songs can be heard through tape recorder. Music has become popular now a days but in its fame important role is played by the radio and T.V. Today we can see and listen every singer and instrument players while sitting at home. Every work begins with the lyrics and ends also with the lyrics.
AN ANALYSIS OF CURATIVE POWER OF INDIAN MUSIC FOR RELIEVING STRESS.
Since time immemorial music has been an integral part of human\'s life. While music is well apprehended as a source of entertainment and spirituality, but the Indian people had confide in music for its healing power too. In Vedic times music was used for chanting and intoning Vedic mantras not only in praise of God but also to relieved of several disharmonies in the individuals. Since then it is believed that music helps to enhances memory, boosts energy, and creates liveliness in human\'s life. In the present era of competition most of the people are getting affected by stress whether it is positive or negative. Although the stress can produce positive action to some extent but excess stress gives rise to various physical ailments. Music therapy proved to be an easiest source to reduce anxiety, stress and negative feelings such as anger, fear, and jealousy.

Life begins with first rhythm, the heartbeat. Music has frequently been used as a therapeutic agent from the ancient times. Music is a kind of yoga system through the medium of sonorous sound, which acts upon the human organism and awakens and develops their proper functions to extent of self-realization. This is the ultimate goal of Hindu Philosophy and religion. Melody is the keynote of Indian Music. The 'Raga' is the basis of melody. Various 'Ragas', have been found to be very effective in curing many diseases. As music has a sedative effect, it can replace the administration of tranquillizers, or can reduce the dosage. Music increases the metabolic activities within the human body. It accelerates the respiration, influence the internal secretion, improves the muscular activities and as such affects the central nervous system and circulatory system of the listener and the performer. They stimulate the brain, ease tension and remove fatigue. The effect of Music Therapy may be immediate or slow, depending upon number of factors like the subject, his mental condition, environment and the type of Music, selected for having the desired effect. Music Therapy largely depends on individual needs and taste.

Dr. Tony Cicoria, a well-regarded orthopaedic surgeon and a former football Player, actually embraced death and returned to life, after being struck by the lightning while talking on the phone. This robust fellow developed several neurological syndromes as explained in the book Musicophilia by Dr. Oliver sacks. " I saw my own body on the ground. I said to myself, 'Oh shit, I'm dead.' …Then —slam! I was back. " recalls Dr. Cicoria, while reminiscing the incident. A couple of weeks later, although his memory problem persisted, life still returned to normal when suddenly in a few days, his insatiable desire to listen to the piano music aroused. He listened seriously for hours. He felt completely mindful and free from the disturbing past when eventually, he started to teach himself to play piano. In the third month after being struck, Cicoria was inspired, even possessed by music, and scarcely had time for anything else. Some years passed, he continued to work as a surgeon, but his heart and mind was now centered on music. He met a fearful motorcycle accident meanwhile, but made a complete recovery through his piano-playing and was back at work in two months. i Music and the human body It is known that approximately 70% of the body is water and sound travels faster in water than the air. Therefore, inculcating sound vibrations for healing is becoming essentially credited. In addition, there are seven glandular systems in our body and musical notes are also seven. Each note has a unique vibration which stimulates the energy centers and subsequently our body.

Impact of formal training in Indian Classical Music on Psychological wellbeing

Indian Classical Music is the essence of Indian culture and tradition. The present study attempts to study the impact of the formal training in Indian Classical Music on the psychological wellbeing of young adults. Data was collected from 30 young adults with the formal training in Indian Classical Music (Trained Musicians) and from 30 more adults who did not have the formal training in Indian Classical Music yet appreciate Indian Classical Music (Un-Trained Musicians). Data was collected using Psychological Wellbeing Scale developed by Carol. D. Ryff (1989). The obtained data were tabulated and analyzed using 't' test. The obtained results of the study indicated that there is no statistically significant difference in the psychological wellbeing of trained and untrained Indian Classical Musicians.
